Chapter 72 Class Reunion

As usual, noons at The Serenade were when everyone was working nonstop. As Christopher was about to walk out of the kitchen to go to the bathroom, he heard someone call out his name sarcastically, “No way. Christopher Yard, it's really you! And here I thought I’d gotten the wrong person. You really are working as a cook here, huh?” Not paying too much attention to the sarcasm in his tone, Christopher raised his head to take a good look at the young man speaking. Realizing that he did not recognize this man, he asked, “You are…?” “Come on. Don’t you recognize me?” While looking at Christopher with a scrutinizing gaze, the young man said, “That makes sense. After all, it is all different from the past now. We are no longer on the same level as before, and even more so now. How about I introduce myself again—I am Leonard Baker, currently the Sales Manager at Reagent Real Estate.” As Leonard was talking, he took out a name card and handed it to Christopher. Leonard Baker? After receiving the business card, Christopher was puzzled for a moment, and then he finally recalled Leonard, who was his roommate from university and was also from Brentwood city. Christopher roughly recalled that Leonard’s parents were both working in a finance company. Although the two lived in the same dormitory before, they didn’t have a close relationship. This was because Leonard had also once pursued Tina in the beginning, so the relationship between these two rivals was naturally not good. “You are working here… as a cook?” Using an extremely disdainful tone, Leonard looked at Christopher and said, “Seems like you are not doing so well for yourself after all.” “Indeed,” Christopher answered with a smile upon hearing what Leonard had said without feeling the slightest anger. “Tsk, tsk. Why did you have to be a cook of all things?” Leonard said in a tone that sounded as if he was feeling sorry for Christopher. “What’s the future of being merely a cook anyway?” Perhaps it was because Leonard thought that a chef’s job was inferior to others, but Christopher had never once thought so. No longer having the mood to talk nonsense with Leonard, Christopher asked bluntly, “Is there anything else? If not, then I’ll take my leave first.” “Hold up!” Seeing that Christopher was about to leave, Leonard grabbed him and said, “I would probably have forgotten if you hadn’t reminded me—will you be coming to the class reunion tomorrow? Come to think of it, we’ve graduated for two years now, and it’s time for us to meet up again. Frankly, I was quite worried that I couldn't get to you, but now that I see you here, it seems that I don’t have to look for your contact number anymore. We’ve booked Madrila Private Club at The Boulevard for this reunion. Make sure you come!” “Class reunion?” As soon as he heard that, Christopher immediately frowned and said, “I probably can’t. I have to work tomorrow, you see.” The so-called class reunion was just a meeting to compare who was more successful. Christopher obviously didn't want to waste time at such a boring party; plus, he didn't think that Leonard’s purpose in inviting him to the class reunion was that simple, so he refused. “Work? What work?” Hearing that Christopher’s excuse for not joining the reunion was to work, Leonard merely said, “You’re just a small cook anyway; with that tiny bit of salary, how much money can you make anyway? You might as well take advantage of this reunion and find a more suitable job for yourself from the other classmates that are doing well now. Whatever it is, it is still better than being a cook, right? So, don’t say no anymore and I’ll count you in, alright? Remember, it’s at 10.00PM tomorrow; be there or be square.” After saying this, Leonard turned around and left without even waiting for Christopher’s answer.Leonard left, but Christopher, who was left behind, was baffled. What an interesting character. He wouldn’t give me the chance to say no, and he even forced me to go? That being said, fine! I’ll go to this stupid class reunion, Christopher thought to himself even though he knew that this so-called reunion would be nothing but a waste of time; he figured it wouldn’t matter much since it would just be for a night. Meanwhile, perhaps it was because she had finally verified Christopher’s words with Maya, Scarlett didn’t come to Christopher to cause trouble for the whole evening. After work, Christopher arrived home. The 5 million that Declan from Myriad Pharmacy promised to pay in installments had been paid off, and Christopher was sure that the remaining 15 million would be paid soon as well. With a net worth in the tens of millions, Christopher was now a millionaire. This money in real life was enough for him to cover his daily life expenses, not to mention buying a car or a house—he could live the life he had once dreamed of living. However, if he were to convert this money in exchange for thumbs-ups, it wouldn’t even amount to much—even if it was 20 million dollars, it would only amount to 200,000 thumbs-up points. For those products that could only be redeemed in hundreds of thousands, or even millions in the Thumbs-Up Online Mall, this amount was probably just the same as chump change. Forget 20 million dollars—even if he had 100 million now, it would only amount to 1 million thumbs-up points. Using cash in exchange for thumbs-ups could indeed alleviate his lack of points to a certain extent. With that said, if he really wanted to get millions, tens of millions or even more than 100 million thumbs-up points, then he would need to figure something else out. Hmm… what should I do? Christopher fell into deep thought. Since the system had set the price of the goods in the mall so high, it would only make sense if people were able to redeem them. This showed that the hosts were definitely capable of getting these points; it was just that Christopher hadn’t found a way to do it yet. Just when Christopher was pulling his hair out while trying to figure out a way to earn more thumbs-up points, the doorbell rang. He didn’t have to guess who it was; Samatha was the only one who would come to him at this time of day.Sure enough, as soon as he opened up the door, he saw Samantha standing outside the door quietly. “Hi, Christopher. I am here to make some supper for you! Are you excited?” Samantha said to Christopher as she held up the various bags in her hand. “Of course I am excited! Why wouldn’t I be?” Ignoring the true thoughts in his heart, Christopher said insincerely. To be honest, it would take a lot of courage to eat the meals that this girl cooked. “Christopher, did you change your kitchenware?” Walking into his kitchen familiarly, Samatha asked as she noticed that the original kitchen appliances were gone and were replaced by a new set of appliances. “Yes, I changed them all. When I passed by the supermarket two days ago, I found that they were on sale, so I bought a new set of kitchenware,” Christopher replied casually. “Then what about the old set?” Samatha continued to ask. “Oh, I threw all of them away,” Christopher replied. Of course, this was a lie. How could he throw away century-old Unique Cookware? All those things were packed in the Parallel Universe Kitchen Appliance and Storage Pack, and he hid the storage pack, along with the peach pit left from making the Bone Broth Detox Soup, all in the storage room. To be honest, Christopher was still a little worried to be living in this community. What if the house was robbed by a thief when he was away from work? It was okay if they stole other things in the house, but what if they took away the storage pack and the other things that he had gotten from the Thumbs-Up Online Mall? After all, the security in this residential area hadn’t always been good. Besides, after living in this ruined rental house for so long, Christopher really wanted a change of scenery; he was not at all short on money right now anyway.
