Chapter 71 Avoiding the Flying Knife

Soon, they had reached the final station. As if she was suddenly brought back to reality, Maya, who had been silent all the while, said to Christopher, “We’ve reached! Let’s get off first, shall we?” With that, she ducked down and escaped from under Christopher’s arm before following the crowd to get off. He couldn’t tell what exactly was on Maya’s mind, but it seemed that she didn’t even want to say a word to him. Hence, he only let out a bitter smile and followed closely behind her as he got off the bus. “I already gave my assistant a call, and they’ll probably send someone over to come pick me up,” Maya told Christopher as soon as he stepped off the bus. As she was saying that, he could sense her voice trembling, as if she was nervous. What is she nervous about? Christopher thought to himself curiously. “Uhm.” Christopher could feel his awkward personality overwhelming him again. Under such a situation, he was the last person who could think about something to say that could ease the tension in the air. Hence, he could only say, “Wow, many unexpected things happened today, huh! But no matter what, please believe that I am not someone who would take advantage of people like this. Please believe me!” Christopher said righteously. Christopher himself thought what he said would rub off on Maya, but she didn’t answer nor acknowledge him—she only stood nervously while waiting for her assistant to pick her up. Maya couldn’t decipher the current mood; all she could feel was anxiousness and uneasiness. Moments later, a black van drove by, and as soon as she saw the car stopping in front of her, Maya felt as though the weight in her heart had finally been lifted. “I’ll take my leave first!” Maya said hurriedly without even looking at Christopher. Immediately after, she darted toward the van, as if she was trying to run away from him. She was quick—to the point that Christopher didn’t even have time to bid her goodbye. When he finally came back to his senses, the van had long disappeared from his sight. Christopher felt that the national goddess had been acting weird ever since he accidentally kissed her on the bus. Maya thought to herself, Am I mad? Probably not. Am I furious for what he did? I don’t think so. Then why did I act that way? Why am I anxious? It wasn’t just Christopher who didn’t know what was wrong with Maya—even she herself didn’t know what was going on with herself. Right now, she felt like a child that had done something wrong. She covered her pouty lips with her fingers and cautiously looked at her assistant, worrying that she might notice something that she shouldn’t. “Maya, what's wrong?” Seeing Maya’s strange reaction, her female assistant asked worriedly. “N-Nothing!” Maya explained hurriedly. On the surface, she said she was fine, but in her mind, she couldn’t help but recall the feeling of Christopher’s lips on hers. On the next day… Christopher went to work in The Serenade. However, as soon as he stepped through the restaurant door, he saw Scarlett rushing toward him angrily while holding a kitchen knife. The f*ck?! This is uncalled for. Even though he was a changed man now, all thanks to the Bone Broth Detox Soup, he had definitely not reached the point of invincibility. Running away was the best choice for him now. Seeing how angry and murderous Scarlett looked right now, Christopher only had one word in his mind—run! “Christopher Yard, you’d better stand right there!” Scarlett yelled as she saw Christopher trying to run away. Then, she raised the chopping knife in her hand higher and continued to charge toward him, looking as if she was about to chop him into pieces. “Let’s talk things out, huh?” Across a round table, Christopher said to Scarlett, who seemed to be losing her mind, “Why are you doing this?” “You’re asking me why I’m doing this?” Seeing that Christopher was still playing dumb and innocent, Scarlett yelled, “Are you trying to play dumb? How about you tell me what you did! I warned you not to even think about anything happening between you and Maya, didn’t I? Butlook at you, being on entertainment headlines and everything! Great! You don’t even listen to what I say now, huh? Then I’ll castrate you right here and now!” With that, Scarlett threw the chopping knife in her hand toward Christopher. Swoosh! The chopping knife spinned fast in the air, causing a gust of wind. Looking at the shimmering blade flying toward him, Christopher suddenly felt his senses screaming for him to avoid it. Immediately, he opened his legs wide, and the chopping knife flew past his crotch. Chop! The tip of the knife was stabbed into a wooden cylinder. “Phew!” With his manhood out of danger, Christopher let out a sigh of relief. However, right then, Scarlett rushed over again. He didn't dare to let Scarlett get a hold of the knife anymore, so he raised the knife high to make it out of her reach. “Are you crazy?” Christopher reprimanded her. “I’m crazy?” Scarlett pointed at her own nose and said in disbelief. “Please. You are the crazy one! Don’t you know that you are now a celebrity? You made the entertainment headline today! Look—‘A strange man and the national goddess, Maya Soto, appeared on the street and attracted hundreds of spectators!’. Don’t you dare tell me the person in the picture isn’t you.” With that, Scarlett handed her mobile phone to Christopher. On the screen of the mobile phone was the entertainment news headline that Scarlett had just mentioned. The picture attached to the article was of him carrying Maya in his arms and running away wildly while being chased by hundreds of people. Although the photos weren’t very clear, people who knew him could still vaguely tell that it was indeed him. “What do you have to say for yourself?” Scarlett asked furiously. “It’s not what you think it is!” At this point, Christopher was only glad that the picture taken was not of him and Maya kissing. Otherwise, he really would have to kiss his crotch goodbye. “Then what is it actually?” Scarlett continued to interrogate. Christopher believed that Maya would definitely not tell anyone about the accidental kiss yesterday, so he quickly sorted out his thoughts and explained, “Actually, after I was done participating in the press conference of ‘Glutton God’ yesterday, Miss Maya invited me for a meal in order to thank me for taking part in the movie, but we were accidentally recognized by the crowd. So, to run away from the fans, I had to carry her that way so we could escape—that’s all! Well, if you refuse to take my word for it, by all means, call and ask Miss Maya!”What Christopher said was 100% the truth, and there was no lie. Seeing how sincere Chrsitopher looked, she figured he probably wasn’t lying and asked, “Really?” “Of course!” Christopher patted his chest and swore, “I swear upon my family that what I have just said is the truth, or else I’d die a painful death.” Since what he said was indeed the truth, no matter how dangerous the oath was, he would dare to take it. “Hmph! Don’t you worry, I’ll definitely call Maya to verify this. You’d better not let me find out that you’re lying.” After hearing his oath, Scarlett finally believed him again. After looking him up and down suspiciously, she stepped aside and dialed her phone. It seemed that she really was going to confirm it with Maya. Looking at Scarlett leaving, Christopher finally felt at ease again. As he was about to change his clothes in the changing room, his phone rang—it was from Samantha. When he answered, Christopher didn’t expect that she would be asking the same thing as Scarlett. Not only that, in between her words, he could sense a little bitterness and anger. Naturally, Christopher wouldn’t tell Samantha everything that happened between him and Maya, so he told Samatha exactly what he had told Scarlett instead. In fact, Samatha was obviously much more understanding and innocent than that witch, Scarlett, so she hung up with peace of mind as soon as Christopher had finished explaining.
