Chapter 37 The Shameless William Townsend

After saying that, the man took a step forward and he reached out his hand in an attempt to hit Samantha. Frightened, Samantha hid behind Christopher. “How dare you?” Christopher bellowed in fury and he abruptly caught the man’s hand. The two of them were at a standstill. The middle-aged man’s wrist was caught in Christoper’s iron-clad grip, making it impossible for the former to do anything. “Samantha, is he your father?” Ignoring the man who was glaring at him, Christopher asked Samantha, as if he had not heard the man addressing her as his daughter. She nodded in silence. “What does he want?” As a father, as well as Maryse’s husband, not only did he not come and take care of his critically ill wife, he made a lot of noise in the ward and even tried to hit his daughter. Christopher could not comprehend how a man like him could possibly exist in this world. “He is here to ask for money!” Samantha whispered from behind Christopher.“Ask for money? What money?” he asked with a frown. “I reckon that he gambled away all the allowance that I gave him last week, so—" “You stupid girl; what are you talking about!” Upon seeing Samantha revealing his secret to an outsider, the man yelled, “If you dare to say another word, I will tear your mouth out!” “I will be the one who tears your mouth out first!” Upon hearing that, Christopher, who could not bear to look at Samantha’s father's disgusting behavior, gave him a tight slap. Although this man was Samantha’s father, Christopher found that there wasn’t even a need for him to be polite to the man, and giving him a slap was actually an act of mercy. Slap! It was a crisp sound. Samantha’s father, who was stunned by the slap, returned to his senses after a while. He initially intended to charge at Christopher to fight with him, but the latter’s large build made him withdraw when he was still some distance away. He glared at Christopher in rage before he held his red, swollen cheek while he pointed at Samantha and roared, “Great; this is just great! You actually colluded with an outsider to bully your father! You are taking his side now, huh?” He seemed as if he was about to devour them whole. “This is just great! Just you wait; we will see how it goes!” With that, he left in a huff. “Are you alright?” Christopher turned to look at the girl behind him after her father had left. Upon hearing his concerned tone, Samantha shook her head miserably. Although her father’s slap did not land on her face, his actions made her heart ache—it was more painful than him slapping her ten times. “If he dares to come and seek trouble with you again, you should immediately call the police.” Christopher thought that they shouldn’t mind about their familial bonds when dealing with this sort of irresponsible man who had thrown away his conscience and humanity; calling in the police was the answer to deal with a scum like Samantha’s father. Upon hearing that, Samantha nodded. “How is your mother’s condition?” Christopher asked. At the mention of her mother, she seemed more light-hearted. “The doctor said that she should regain her consciousness soon and she will be discharged by then,” she murmured. “Chris, thank you very much.” Samantha knew very well that if it was not because of Christopher’s soup, nobody could tell what would have happened to her mother. Christopher had already helped her multiple times and this time, she didn’t know how she could repay his kindness. “It’s nothing much.” He stroked her head. “It’s something I should do.” “Speaking of which, aren’t you curious?” He asked her as he seemed to think of something. “Curious about what?” Samantha asked. “About the soup,” he replied. Upon hearing that, she smiled and said, “Since you don’t want me to tell the doctor about it, it implies that you don’t wish for others to know about it. Therefore, why should I ask you about it? Don’t you worry, Chris; I won’t tell anyone about it.” It was undeniable that Samantha’s reply came as a surprise to him. Under normal circumstances, any other ordinary person would get to the bottom of it when faced with this sort of extraordinary incident, so it was unexpected for her to be so thoughtful and understanding. Nevertheless, her behavior did him a favor by saving him the trouble of racking his brain to think of a way to explain the situation to her. Meanwhile outside the hospital, Samantha’s father—William—left the hospital while holding his cheek. Standing in front of the building, he darted a sinister look in the direction of ward number 305 of the intensive care unit, where Christopher and Samantha were, before he took out his phone and made a call. The call soon went through, and the deep voice of a middle-aged man was heard from the other end of the line. “Hello, William, it’s rare for you to think of me. Tell me—what’s up?” “Henry, do you remember what you said to me some time ago?” William covered his phone with one hand and he lowered his voice, as if he was afraid that other people would hear what he said. “I agree to it!” he exclaimed in a morbidly exciting tone. “But at a higher price—a lump sum of 300,000!” “Three hundred thousand?” Upon hearing the price, Henry fell silent on the other end of the line. After a while, he replied, “William, that’s too much!” “It isn’t too much at all!” An exhilarated William continued, “Henry, you have seen my daughter’s photo. Both her figure and looks are top-notch, and people would believe even if you say that she is a top-grade actress or celebrity. With her quality, there will be people willing to purchase her at 500,000, let alone when it is only 300,000. Just tell me if you want her or not—if you don’t want this deal, I will find another buyer.” William’s tone was adamant, so the man named Henry considered if purchasing the girl at 300,000 was worth the price. After about five minutes, Henry, who was on the other end of the line, agreed. “It’s a deal, William! We’ll make it 300,000, then. I will take you up on your offer. Where are you now? I would like to collect the goods.” When Henry agreed to his offer, an unnatural flush appeared on William’s face as he muttered, “You get your men to Quarry Hill Hospital and leave the rest to me. You are now at Black Panther Bar, right? I promise to deliver my daughter to you in one piece.” “No problem. My men will arrive in 30 minutes.” With that, Henry hung up the call. Then, William kept away his phone. He currently had a twisted expression on his face, which resembled a demon that was about to swallow someone whole. A smile played by his lips as he mumbled sinisterly, “Don’t blame me for being heartless!”
