Chapter 236 You Better Not Do Such a Silly Thing

Christopher shot a dispassionate glance at Morton, who had just addressed him as ‘Mr. Cook’. Although the man still appeared battered, there was a sense of ecstasy in his gaze. At that, Christopher frowned as he wasn’t willing to speak to Morton. Just when he was about to head to The Serenade, Morton raced after him and grabbed his arm. “Hey, man, what’s your name? When I see your boss, I’ll put in a good word for you. I’m sure she’ll increase your salary by then. How about that?” Morton grinned at Christopher with a sly gaze. Morton had been the director of the Public Housing Administration for many years, but it was the first time he had to line up to enter a restaurant. If the other public officials discovered this fact, he would become a laughing stock. He had been trying to obtain the phone number of The Serenade’s boss for a long time, but he’d failed in his attempt to do so. Nevertheless, he had learned her name—Luna Sears. He heard that her phone number was confidential as only a small number of people had it. Previously, he had made a call to The Serenade and told them that he was the director of Public Housing Administration. He wanted them to save a table for him so that he didn’t have to line up. After all, since he was a director, he was swamped with work. Initially, he thought that as the director of Public Housing Administration, the fact that he was willing to patronize such a small restaurant would have left the staff members ecstatic and they would immediately send the soup to him. They might even give it to him for free. However, when Morton spoke to them on the phone, he was interrupted by a young woman, which enraged him. After he made one more call, the woman recognized his voice and hung up on him again. Left with no choice, he sent his subordinates to line up in front of the restaurant, thinking that he’d definitely get to purchase the item. Unexpectedly, his subordinates told him that the line was extremely long. They had stayed there for an entire day, but before it was their turn to enter, the restaurant had already closed. After a few attempts, he realized that his subordinates really couldn’t buy the soup. An infuriated Morton decided to personally come to purchase the Hundred Tonics Nourishing Soup. As the director of Public Housing Administration, he doubted that he couldn’t even get the soup. Nevertheless, he was dumbfounded when he arrived at the place. Just like what his subordinates had told him, the line was unbelievably long. Apart from the jobless young people, the ones who held jobs had also applied for a day off to come over and line up. The stunned Morton wasn’t familiar with this area, so he walked around without any bodyguards with him. It so happened that he came across Big-Ear and the other thugs. If Christopher arrived at a later time, Morton would’ve been robbed. Nonetheless, he didn’t appear grateful to Christopher at all. He was the director of Public Housing Administration, so numerous people had tried to butter him up. Even the bosses of five-star hotels had tried to fawn over him before, so he had no regard for the boss of The Serenade at all. Therefore, he didn’t think he had to be polite to a cook since there was absolutely no need for that. Morton was responsible for approving housing transactions and relocation management. His advice or approval was needed whenever it came to the demolition and relocation of houses. The people who had previously gone against him had all ended up in a miserable state. Not only were their houses demolished, they had also received meager compensation. He would never go easy on anyone who dared to disobey him. “It doesn’t matter to me. If you want to buy the soup, line up on your own.”Christopher wasn’t aware of what was on Morton’s mind and directly rejected the man’s request. Is he out of his mind? If everyone comes up to me and wants me to bring them in, I’ll be swamped. More importantly, not anyone can jump the line. After Christopher finished speaking in an impassive manner, he took a glance at Morton’s hand, which hinted at him to release him as he had to leave now. Upon seeing how Christopher had dismissed him, Morton knitted his brows together. As he suddenly thought of something, he quickly fished out a document from his clothes and showed it to Christopher. “Sir, can I enter now? I’ve secretly come over. If you let me in, you'll get a lot of benefits!” When Christopher saw the document, he was a little surprised. He thought that Morton had lied to Big-Ear, but now it seemed that he was mistaken. Nevertheless, he didn’t butter Morton up just because the man was the director of Public Housing Administration. To him, Morton wasn’t on the same level as Noah Turner. He heard that Noah was also the deputy mayor of Brentwood City and given Noah’s multiple roles, Morton would also have to bow to him. Christopher already had a bad impression of the man who just called him ‘Mr. Cook’. Basically, he has no money, but he still wants to get Hundred Tonics Nourishing Soup by using his authority. Well, he has underestimated me. Other cooks might bow to him, but I’m definitely not one of them! To him, this arrogant man before him couldn’t really bring any benefits to him. With this thought in mind, he took one more look at Morton’s document and shook his head before heading to The Serenade, leaving the stunned Morton behind. Seeing how Christopher had the guts to dismiss him, Morton’s expression darkened. Then, he uttered to Christopher coldly, “You’re just a cook. How dare you be so arrogant in front of me! I’ll make you regret what you’ve done to me! The Serenade will be destroyed because of you!” Christopher was walking toward the restaurant when he heard Morton’s threat, so he frowned and stopped in his tracks, but he didn’t turn his head to look at the man. “I suggest that you better not do such a silly thing.” Despite Morton’s glacial stare, Christopher still spoke in an unenthusiastic voice. After that, he ambled toward the people that were in front of The Serenade. At that, Morton sneered. Who do you think you are? How dare you speak to me like this! Since you have the guts to offend me, I’ll definitely destroy you. Otherwise, I’ll no longer be Morton Goodman. The ungrateful Morton no longer wanted the soup at this moment as he fished out his phone and dialed a number. After I make this call, the boss of The Serenade will definitely come to beg for my mercy. After that, the cook will be fired by his boss and he’ll fall on his knees to plead with me. With this thought in mind, he grinned like a Cheshire’s cat. You’re still too young to go against me. Naturally, Christopher wasn’t aware of Morton’s plan. When he returned to The Serenade, he could see that the crowd had broken into a commotion and some people were crying. As he was stunned by what he saw and wondered whether anything had happened to the restaurant, he quickened his pace.
