Crash! Crash! Crash! Bang! Bang! Bang! At six in the evening, the kitchen of The Serenade was abustle. Right now, it was dinnertime, also known as the busiest time of the day for The Serenade. At long last, Scarlett had stopped pestering Christopher and was instead standing at the serving hatch, tasting the various dishes that were about to be served. Unlike Hayden who, despite being head chef, rarely got involved in food preparation and would only come out for a round of inspections every day during peak hours, she seemed to work very hard. While she herself didn’t cook, she sampled every dish that passed through the serving hatch and sent back the ones she found unsatisfactory. With her monitoring the quality of the food, none of the cooks and sous-chefs could slack off if they wanted to. Perhaps for this reason, The Serenade had yet to see a dish returned by an unhappy customer—this was something that never happened while Hayden was head chef. Right now, the kitchen was neat and orderly, and everyone was busy with their tasks. At this moment, the kitchen door opened with a creak and the stunning Luna strode in, her slender legs on display. “Luna, why are you here?” Scarlett asked after hopping down from the serving hatch and skipping her way over to Luna. “No reason in particular; I’m just here to look around,” Luna answered with a smile. “By the way, is Emmanuel here?” “Over here.” Hearing the question, the man named Emmanuel Costa set aside his task and made his way to her, cleaning his hands on his apron. “Are you looking for me, Ms. Sears?” After nodding, she asked, “Are you from Italy?” “I am, Ms. Sears.” “If that’s the case, have you heard of roasted tomato risotto before?” “Roasted tomato risotto?” After frowning and pondering it for a moment, he shook his head. “What about the rest of you?” she asked the other cooks upon seeing him shake his head.Everyone, including Christopher, shook their heads. “What about you?” she finally asked Scarlett. Roasted tomato risotto? Thinking about it for a moment, Scarlett finally shook her head. She was familiar with many dishes from various types of cuisine, including Italian, but she was not familiar with roasted tomato risotto. “You don’t know it either?” At Scarlett’s expression, Luna began to frown. “Why?” Scarlett asked curiously after noticing the importance Luna was placing on the risotto. “No reason,” Luna reassured her with a smile. “It’s just that Director Turner from the city has brought a guest for dinner. The guest heard that we have an Italian cook and asked whether the cook knew how to make roasted tomato risotto. I didn’t expect that neither you nor Emmanuel would not know how to make it.” “Is the guest very important, Luna?” “Quite,” Luna replied. “Director Turner is an important public figure, and there aren’t many people who would warrant a personal reception. We’re going to have a bad time of it if we let the guest go home disappointed. Can you make the risotto based on its list of ingredients, Scarlett?” It went without saying making a dish based on its ingredients alone was incredibly hard. The guest Luna referred to had to be an extraordinary figure, or he would not warrant such a request. “I can try but it might not taste right,” Scarlett answered. Even though she was very confident in her culinary skills, it was a very complicated request and she wasn’t sure if she could fulfill it. “It’s enough for you to try. It’s best if you can succeed, of course, but there’s no issue if you don’t. Now, why don’t you wait here just a minute? I’ll get the ingredients for you.” With that, Luna turned around and left. Personally, Christopher knew the ‘Director Turner’ that Luna referred to. He was indeed an important figure who often came to The Serenade for dinner. While he dressed plainly and did not drive a luxury car, much less demand pageantry from the staff, he carried himself with an air of importance that could not be faked. A guest requiring his personal reception had to be very important indeed. But roasted tomato risotto? It made Christopher frown. Had he genuinely not heard of it?Right as he was pondering this, Luna returned. Perhaps because she was walking too fast, her large chest swayed and it caused every man in the kitchen to gawp at her. How lucky they were! While everyone else stared at Luna, Scarlett alone took a step forward to stand in front of Christopher. Such a b*tch! He couldn’t help swearing in his heart. She had to be doing it on purpose. “Have you gotten the list of ingredients, Luna?” Scarlett asked sweetly, happy to see him defeated. Even though Luna could feel the stares on her bosom, she didn’t mind it too much and she turned to tell Scarlett calmly, “Mr. Moses has told me that there aren’t any special ingredients—only tomatoes, rice, shallots, and likely butter as well. If there are any other ingredients, he can’t remember them. Right, then; why don’t you try making it?” Knowing that Scarlett wasn’t confident she would be able to succeed, she added, “Who knows? You might find a knack for it!” “Alright!” Scarlett answered with a smile while Christopher still looked grumpy. In truth, she had no idea where to start. Rice, butter, shallots, and tomatoes—they weren’t complicated ingredients, but she had no clue how they could form the so-called roasted tomato risotto. Nevertheless, she could not afford to overthink it, and she had to try her hand at it before admitting defeat.
