God-Tier Like System
There was a hint of arrogance to Leonard’s smile as he wondered to himself how a poor, pathetic loser like Christopher could possibly think himself rich just because he knew a few upper-class folk. What’s so great about being able to buy a car using a beautiful woman’s money? It was apparent that Christopher was poor and simply having a stroke of luck, or he would not dress so shabbily. After Leonard glanced at the cheap shirt on Christopher’s back and then down at his own suit that was worth more than ten thousand, his self-confidence returned. I’ll be able to win that woman’s heart as long as I successfully show off my riches in front of her, he thought sweetly to himself. “Leonard, Tina, never thought you’d be together now,” Christopher greeted calmly and expressionlessly. With an envious look at Samantha, Tina mocked, “Jealous? I was right to leave you. You know nothing and have nothing—no car, no house, no money. Leonard has all of it. Look at you, though. How did you even trick that woman next to you into being with you?” At that, Samantha paused. From Tina’s words, she could figure out that Tina was Christopher’s ex-girlfriend who found him lacking for having no money and consequently broke up with him. Without hesitation, she reached out and tightly clasped Christopher’s hand as a hint of resolution appeared on her previously delicate face. In a slightly scornful tone, she answered, “I love Chris for who he is. I will not leave him because he has no money, nor did I become close to him because he has money. When it comes to him, I feel true love!” Christopher shot her a gratified smile and he tightened his own grip around her hand. It was incredibly sweet of her to protect him at every turn. Not expecting such a reaction from a woman like that, Leonard and Tina both gaped at her. Nonetheless, their expressions quickly morphed into disdainful smiles. Samantha could pretend all she wanted, and they would see whether she could maintain her air of righteousness once they bought the Ferrari. After about a minute, the manager of the store finally arrived on the scene and greeted Christopher with a smile. “Apologies for making you wait! I’m Mr. Johnson.” As Christopher opened his mouth to accept the apology, Leonard stepped forward and stood in front of him and said with a smile, “That’s fine; we’re okay with waiting a bit.” The store clerk who had returned with Mr. Johnson paused. After all, this couple was a different one to the couple that originally wanted to buy the car. Confused, he glanced at Christopher, but it didn’t seem appropriate for him to speak up if the latter didn’t. Meanwhile, Samantha opened her mouth to clarify the situation, but Christopher was quick to tug on her hand and shake his head when she glanced at him as if to indicate for her to permit them to go on. By his estimation, even if Leonard bought nothing else and made about a million in savings each year, he would have saved no more than 3 million in the less than two years since their graduation. What miracles could Leonard possibly achieve with that bit of money? Trusting in Christopher, Samantha nodded and quietly stepped back with him. “Are you prepared to pay in full?” Mr. Johnson asked with a shallow, respectful bow. “Of course!” Leonard answered arrogantly as he lifted his chin. The reason he brought Tina here was to show off, and how was he going to do that if they didn’t drive the car right off the lot? “Excellent! The car costs a total of 4.9 million. Please swipe your card here!” Mr. Johnson told him courteously. After all, a turnover of 4.9 million had to be taken seriously. “4.9 million?” Leonard repeated in consternation, wanting to double-check the amount in case he heard wrongly. “That’s right, sir. The total is, indeed, 4.9 million,” Mr. Johnson informed him after a pause. Given how expensive this man’s clothing looked, Mr. Johnson thought it was unlikely he couldn’t afford the car. On the other hand, Leonard felt like punching himself and Tina to death. Why did I think about getting a Ferrari? Why did I promise to get Tina one? Why did I always have to show off? Well, I’m screwed now! Not only had he not succeeded in showing off, he had landed himself in an embarrassing situation. In truth, he had only succeeded in hooking up with Tina today. How was he going to explain things to her this evening if he couldn’t get her a Ferrari? Anxiously, he twitched the corners of his lips. Unbeknownst to anyone else, he had only made a little more than 2 million in savings these two years, most of which he got through illegal means. Even if he sold himself off right now, he wouldn’t be able to afford 4.9 million! Nonetheless, he hardened his heart and made up his mind. For a beautiful woman, he would do anything and emptying out his bank account was the only solution. “Ahem! I can’t give you that much right now, Mr. Johnson. Can I pay by installment?” Hearing that, Mr. Johnson shook his head and said a little sternly, “Sorry but we don’t support payment by installments. I’m afraid that if you can’t afford it, you’ll have to go to a different dealership.” Meanwhile, Tina froze for a moment before she scowled unhappily and snarled mercilessly at Leonard, “What? If you don’t even have four million, why did you tell me you were worth tens of millions? If you don’t get me this car right now, we’re breaking up!” Once Leonard heard that, he paled. Why does this woman have no consideration for my feelings? She cares only about her own interests and now that she has embarrassed me like that, so how am I ever going to look Christopher in the face again? Right as the trio was caught in a deadlock, a soft voice echoed up nearby. “If you can’t afford it, please step aside. After all, I was the one who chose the car first. Thank you!” Once Mr. Johnson heard that, he turned to look at the store clerk next to him, who eagerly nodded. In an instant, he understood that a conflict was going on between Leonard and Christopher.Once again, Leonard felt his mouth twitch. Currently, he was standing in front of the blue Ferrari and no matter how thick-skinned he was, he would have to step aside under the piercing gaze of the small crowd. When he finally did so, Christopher stepped up and offered his card without saying anything. The store clerk accepted it and very quickly, returned it with both hands, saying, “Your transaction has been accepted, sir. Once you complete some paperwork, you are free to drive off with the car.” With a simple thanks, he completed the so-called paperwork and accepted the car keys from the store clerk’s hands. Once he pressed the button on the car remote, the Ferrari’s doors opened. Glancing at the card and the car keys in Christopher’s hand with starry eyes, Tina shrugged off Leonard’s arm with a gleeful expression and stepped forward to catch hold of Christopher’s arm. “Let’s get back together, Christopher.”
