Chapter 193 The Emperor's Strategy

Arriving back home, Sylvia went to the bathroom to freshen up and then changed into comfortable clothes. Walking out of the dressing room, she moved towards the bed and picked up the communication device that was thrown across it. Navigating the screen, she opened the familiar shopping app icon and began scrolling through the outfits section. Since it would be very conspicuous to wear her mercenary outfit tomorrow, she decided to buy something that wouldn't spark attention. Sighting a plain grey combat suit inside the section, she swiftly added it to the cart and began to scroll through the other sections, adding in stuff like outdoor equipment, some dried food like meat jerky, compressed biscuits, and so on. Finally, Sylvia confirmed her order and then made her payment. Ten minutes later, the doorbell rang, signifying that her order had arrived. Walking out of the room, she climbed down the stairs and went to open the door. At the front door, Sylvia saw the flying robot, which was lifting a big box package in its hand. Seeing that the door had been opened, a mechanical voice came from the robot: As it finished its sentence, a virtual screen popped up in front of Sylvia. “Okay.” Sylvia signed her name and then picked up her package from the robot's hands. Bidding its farewell, the robot flew away, disappearing into the distance. Sylvia closed the door and went back to the sitting room, where she began to open the package. Just as she had instructed, all the things purchased were neatly arranged into a large backpack, which saved her time for packing up. Giving 'Bia' the package box to dispose of, she lifted the backpack and then placed it in the corner where it would be easy for her to see tomorrow. ‘Eek, eek, eek.’ A white, round figure dashed forward. ‘Poop scooper, what did you get? Is it some snack? Why aren't you giving me food? Or are you happy to see this highness starve to death?’ Looking down at Lis, who was scratching at the backpack, Sylvia picked him up. “What are you murmuring about?” She caressed his soft fur and strode towards the garden to see how the queen bee was doing. ‘Buzz, buzz, buzz.’ The loud buzzing noise was like tinnitus in one's ears. Sylvia's eyes scanned around before finally landing on the biggest bee among the group. Detecting Sylvia's presence, the queen bee flew over to her. ‘Buzz, buzz, buzz.’ Of course, an outsider would only hear such an alien buzzing sound, but to Sylvia, what she heard was a childish female voice that sounded inside her head. [Master, are you here to see how I'm doing? Don't worry, the honey production is already in progress. Once we are done producing, I will report the outcome to you, master.] “Alright.” Sylvia nodded her head before talking about the reason that brought her here in the first place. “I will be away from home for a few days, so take care of yourself while I'm gone. I will leave some resources down for you and your men, which will last you until I'm back.” [Thank you so much, master.] The queen bee flapped her large wings, circling over Sylvia in happiness.‘Eek, eek.’ ‘Stop flying around; this king is suffering from dizziness from looking up at you.’ Lis raised his right paw over his eyes. “Hmm, you can go back to your work.” Sylvia waved in dismissal at the happy bee and walked back into the house. She put Lis down on the ground and then tapped on her communication device. Her conversation with the queen bee made her realize that there would be no one to take care of Asher and Lis once she was away. So, she decided to find someone who could help her. Seeing Ayaan's mother's contact on the list, Sylvia dialed it. But after ringing for several minutes, the line was still unanswered. Thinking that she might be busy with something, Sylvia ended the call and thought about who else she could call. Miley? Sylvia immediately shook her head. With the wedding around the corner, Miley is currently too busy preparing for the event. So, asking her to take care of Asher and Lis would only add to her burden. Mike is also too busy to spare a moment, and the little one cannot be left alone at home. “Well, I will call again tonight once she's back home.” She exited the contact surface and turned to head upstairs when she suddenly felt a gentle tug on her trouser leg. Sylvia tilted her head downward and saw a furry figure biting onto her cloth while pushing forward a food bowl with his paw.“Are you hungry?” ‘Eek, eek.’ The fox nodded his head excitedly when he heard the question. Listening to Susu, who said that the little fox hadn't yet eaten his lunch, Sylvia said. “Alright, follow me.” She picked up the food bowl and went towards where his food was stored, scooping a normal-sized amount into it. “Here you go.” She placed the bowl down in front of Lis and watched him eat with excitement. Checking the time, Sylvia saw that there were still a few minutes before Asher closed from school. So, she heads into the kitchen to prepare a light meal. As soon as she was done cooking, the front door was pushed open, followed by a joyful voice. “Sister!” Asher ran forward, hugging his big sister. “How was school today? Let's get you changed out of your uniform first before eating.” Sylvia carried the little guy to his room and freshened him up. After changing his clothes, she carried him down to the dining room, where they began to eat. During the meal, the little guy excitedly talked about what happened at his school. Although he spoke with excitement, Sylvia noticed the bit of fear in his eyes whenever he mentioned the beast's image that was shown to them at school today. “I also saw a big wolf monster. It was so big like our house, sister. The teacher showed us a video where it swallowed a person whole. It was so scary, sister.” Sylvia frowned when she heard this statement. Isn't the emperor a bit reckless for letting the school show such a violent scene to kids at this age? Are they not afraid that the kids might suffer from trauma when they grow up?Sylvia felt that the emperor was being too rash. Even though the city constantly faces the threat of beasts, they shouldn't use it to instill fear in little children's hearts. She put out her hand and rubbed Asher on the head. “Don't be afraid. Sister is going to protect you.” “I'm not afraid. My teacher said that we are heroes who will protect our planet from bad monsters in the future. Sister, I want to be a superhero!” The little guy smiled, waving his hand into the air as he tried to demonstrate some superpower skills. Well, it looks like she had been worrying for nothing. The emperor must have known that exposing the children to such bloody violence at such a young age would lead to massive fear in their hearts. Hence, they decided to come up with a superhero story, brainwashing the children that they were the future saviors of the planet. And it does seem to work. “Yes. Our little Asher will be a cool superhero in the future.” “I will protect my sister, Sky, Lis, and everyone from bad monsters.” With the little one doing the talking, the two siblings soon finished eating their food. Letting 'Bai' handle the dishes, Sylvia led Asher to the living room, where the two of them began to watch a superhero show. An hour into the show, Sylvia felt a gentle touch on her arm and noticed that the little guy was already asleep. Putting off the holographic TV, she lifted Asher and carried him into his room. As she was about to leave his room after placing him on the bed, her communication device rang. It was Ayaan's mom.She hurriedly walked out of the room, afraid of waking the little guy up. When she moved a few steps away from the door, she tapped on the receive icon. “Hi, Sylvia. I'm so sorry.” An apologetic voice came from the other end. “I was in an important meeting, so I couldn't pick up your call.” “It's fine. I understand.” “Thanks for understanding. So, what did you want to say to me?” “I want to ask if you can let Asher stay at your place for a few days. My academy is going on an outing trip to the wilds, so I won't be at home to take care of him.” “Of course, we are no strangers.” Ayaan’s mom answered. “Don't worry, tomorrow I will pick him and Ayaan up from school. You can also send Lis over. My little boy misses him so much.” “Sure. I will let Asher bring him to school tomorrow. Thank you so much, ma'am.” “It's alright. This is just a small thing.” After chatting for a while, the two ended the call. Sylvia was relieved knowing that she didn't have to worry about Asher's situation. Now all she needs to do is focus on tomorrow's trip. Unfortunately for her, an event that was about to change her entire life trajectory was about to take place tonight.
