Chapter 142 Think, Susu

After finishing the funeral process, Sylvia went home with her father, only to be met with a woman and two kids standing in front of their home. “Who are you?” Sylvia stared at the three strangers before her. The two children beside the woman appeared to be in the same age range as her. The woman also noticed Sylvia and her father's arrival. “Oh, you must be Sylvia.” Her lips curled into a smile as she introduced herself, “My name is Kyle. I will be your new mom as from today. Also, this is your step-brother and sister.” “What?” Sylvia was taken aback by the woman's introduction. She had just gotten back from her mother's funeral, and a woman suddenly appeared from nowhere, claiming to be her stepmother. Just what the hell is going on? She looked towards her father, expecting him to deny the woman's word. Instead, he said. “Okay, let's just go inside. I'm so tired from the funeral.” “Oh, is that so. Let's get you inside, darling.” Sylvia watched as the woman put her hand across her father's arms with familiarity and went inside their home. Behind her followed the two children she brought along with her. From that day onward, Sylvia's life became a nightmare. Her loving father, who would call her 'my beautiful princess' now and then, became cold and distant towards her. Her entire life went downhill in just a day. As if to worsen it, the apocalypse came knocking on the door. Just like the saying, once there's a stepmother, there will always be a stepfather. Sylvia was pushed to the frontline to fight against hungry zombies, while her father and the other three stayed back at home enjoying themselves like royalty. All of her found supplies went inside their stomach while she was left to scramble on their unwanted leftovers. When it became harder to get supplies, the four felt that she wasn't of use anymore and decided to sell her to a gang of evil men in exchange for food. Luckily, Sylvia's tenacity had been honed from fighting against zombies and hence, wouldn't let those men assault her. When they saw that she tried to commit suicide several times, the men locked her in a dark room. She was starved until she became as thin as a skeleton so that she wouldn’t be able to resist their advancement. Fortunately, one of the men wandered into her cell in a drunken state one day. Taking advantage of the moment, Sylvia twisted his neck ruthlessly with the bit of strength she had left and ran away from the place. As if to help her, the men seemed to be having a party, and most of them were dead drunk, so they didn't notice Sylvia's escape. While walking on the desert road, she met a group of girls who invited her to join their party. Together in their journey, they soon became a strong powerhouse. But in a place where there are many people, there is bound to be envy and rivalry among the girls. Witnessing Sylvia become stronger day by day, the leader of the group was filled with envy. Eventually, she succumbed to her evil desire and pushed Sylvia into the horde of zombies during one of their missions. Perhaps her mother was looking out for her from heaven, Sylvia was able to outrun the zombie hordes and survive the catastrophe. And then she met another group of people, but they all ended up betraying her. Her heart began to turn cold due to the numerous betrayals she felt. But ultimately, she got her revenge. The girl who threw her into the zombie horde was given the same experience as her. As for those evil families, she heard that they didn't even last long after she was sold off and died under the claws of zombies one by one. Sylvia felt that they all had an easy death as she wished to skin them alive one by one. All those who had a vendetta against her died a gruesome death at her hands. Yet with that, Sylvia didn't feel any sense of fulfillment in her heart. “Why am I still living? There's no need for me to be here any longer.” Her mother's last words continue to ring inside her ears, but Sylvia knew that she couldn't hold on any longer. “Mom, I'm so sorry to let you down.” The energy inside her body began to turn chaotic as she was ready to blow herself up. Susu, who noticed Sylvia's self-suicidal act, began to shout: [Host! Wake up, host!] But no matter how much he screamed her name, Sylvia didn't seem to hear it. In the outside world, Sylvia's body was churning red due to the chaotic energy inside her body. Yet with that, her appearance remained peaceful, as if she were just asleep. Susu knew that if he didn't find a way to wake Sylvia up from her mental demon, she would die inside the illusion. Think, Susu. Think. As for taking over Sylvia's body, that wasn't a feasible option. Any intention of doing so might let out the chaotic energy inside her body, and that's the end. What should I do? The host must not die.
