Interstellar Businesswoman Tycoon
At the beach, the eleven-year-old Sylvia watches on as her mother turns over the barbecue meat on the grill. “Why don't you go play with the kids over there? Isn't it boring watching me cook?” Sylvia's mother spoke in concern for her child. “No. I don't want to play with those kids. Besides, it's not boring watching you cook.” Sylvia answered while continuing to watch her mother's movements. “Since that's so, why don't you go and help me call your dad over. I wonder what important thing his client had to say to be calling him on his day off. Tell him that the meat would soon be done.” “Okay.” Sylvia stood up from the beach mat she sat on and ran over to where her father was. In the distance, she could see the familiar silhouette of her father speaking with someone on the phone. As she moved closer, she noticed the annoyance on his face. 'Is Dad facing some trouble with the client?' Sylvia halted on her sprint, not wanting to disturb her father's conversation, and slowly moved forward. Soon, the nearby conversation floated into her ears. “I told you I can't come over to your place. I'm on a picnic date with my wife and daughter.” The person on the line said something that further agitated Sylvia's father's emotions. “Leave? Do you understand what you are saying? Tell the kids that-” “Dad.” Hearing the sudden voice behind him, Sylvia's father jumped in fear. He immediately turned backward, seeing his daughter standing so close to him. “Sylvia.” His heart trembled, and he abruptly ended the phone call in his hand. Realizing that she was the only one in the vicinity, he let out a sigh of relief. “When did you get here? Weren't you with your mother?” Sylvia saw her father's unusual expression but didn't think much of it. “Mom told me to call you over. It's your day off today. Why are the clients bothering you?” “Ah, it was an important matter. But don't worry, I've already taken care of it. Come on, let's go meet your mother before she starts to panic.” “Okay.” Sylvia skipped happily as she trailed on the beach sand alongside her father. … But on that day, what should have been a perfect family outing for the three immediately became a horrific nightmare for them. “Doctor! Doctor! Please talk to me! What's wrong with my wife? Why did she suddenly collapse?” Sylvia's father ran towards the doctors coming out of the emergency room. He kept asking about his wife's affairs. However, none of the doctors gave him the reply he wanted. “Mom!” The eleven-year-old Sylvia stood beside her father and began to cry. During the dinner, her mother had suddenly collapsed on the floor, sending both her and her father into panic. They immediately dial the emergency number, bringing her to the hospital. After waiting for about an hour, a doctor stepped out of the emergency ward. “Who's the relative of the patient that was just brought in?” “Me. It's me, doctor. What's wrong with my wife?” Sylvia's father immediately rushed forward. “Follow me to my office.” The doctor said, leading the way. Sylvia was about to follow them, but her father told her to stay behind. One of the nurses who saw her standing alone in the hallway tried to cheer her up, but none of her tricks worked. Sylvia couldn't help but have a bad feeling in her heart. She felt that something bad was going to happen. Else, why would the doctor bring her father to his office when he could just tell them whether her mother was fine or not? It wasn't long before her father emerged from the doctor's office, relaying to her the bad news. Turns out that her mother was diagnosed with stage four pancreatitis cancer. … “Mom.” In the ward room, tears dripped down from Sylvia's eyes as she stared at the beautiful woman lying on the bed. “Don't cry. You won't be a beautiful princess anymore if you continue to cry.” The woman on the bed smiled, trying to console her daughter. If it wasn't for the doctor's diagnosis, her current state would have passed as a healthy person. “Mom.” Sylvia pressed herself into her mother's embrace. “It's alright. Everything will be fine.” While consoling her daughter, the woman's eyes shifted to the man who standing beside the bed. “How long does the doctor say I have left to live?” “I've already signed the chemotherapy consent form. I'm not letting any cancer steal my wife away from me.” The man replied with a determined gaze. Hearing her husband's response, the beautiful woman let out a smile. It was supposed to be an assuring smile, yet it was laced with a sense of sadness. … As time went by, Sylvia had to watch as her mother underwent the painful chemotherapy treatment. But no matter how much treatment was used on her, none of them showed a good result. Her mother's health kept declining day by day. How can a healthy person suddenly become as thin as a skeleton in a month? Sylvia spends most of her days in tears. All she could do but watch as her mother succumbed to the illness. “Mom, please don't leave me. Please!” Her eyes were already swollen from tears. “My daughter.” Her mother's voice was hoarse and low. It can be seen that she had no strength left in her body. Yet, she managed to say to Sylvia, “Tell me you'll continue living, no matter what happens in the future.” “Mom!” “Even if you can't take it anymore, please continue to live. I love you so much.” The bony hands reached across Sylvia's cheeks, wiping off her tears. But they kept on falling, no matter how much she wiped them. “Mom!” Sylvia's voice was hoarse from crying. In the end, there was nothing she could do but watch her as her mother took her last breath.
