The next day was meant to be an anxious day for all Starry-Sky’s High School students. They could be seen entering from their school entrance with a big dark circle under their eyes, all due to lack of sleep. In the Hermes academy, Sylvia sat behind her desk, continuously yawning. She had logged out late from the virtual net last night and didn’t get much sleep. Feeling her eyelids getting heavier in seconds, she lowered her head onto the table before her, ready to catch up on her lost sleep. “It’s just fifteen minutes away before the exam scores are released. My whole body is shaking in terror at the fear of the unknown.” Someone said among the students. “Gosh, I could barely sleep a wink last night. I was too anxious thinking about my results.” Another added. “The same. I pray I will climb up in rank than I did in the last test or else, my military father is going to cripple both of my legs.” Another said with a dreadful expression. “It looks like we’re both in the same boat, brother. I could barely get my mother threatening words off my mind every time I tried to have a shut eye. Damm, my legs are trembling at the thought of her words.” The other students saw the young boy’s adverse reaction and immediately became curious. “What did your mother say to you to derive such an intense reaction from you?” One of them asked. “Ha-ha.” A pathetic smile appeared on the boy’s face. “Do you believe that she threatened to send me to the wilds if I ever fell below the pass mark?” If it wasn’t that he knew his mother was his biological mother, he would have thought that he was adopted instead. What kind of parent threatens to send their child to the wilds all because of an exam result? “I just hope I will be able to go above the pass mark. Even if it’s just a point.” “Oh, my condolence bro. At least, my father is still compassionate by wanting my legs instead of my life.” His buddy pats him gently on the shoulder, already giving him his funeral farewell. The conversation of the students fell into Julian’s ears, who was seated a few desks away from them. His legs under the desk wouldn’t stop trembling ever since he arrived at school this morning. Late in the night yesterday, his parents had received a call from his benefactor informing them that if he were to attain high points in this exam, he would be given a temporary visit card to a first-rate planet. Though it’s said to be a temporary card, Julian knew the kind of improvement it would bring to his family’s lifestyle if he were to develop on the first-rate planet. By then, his uncles and aunts who had always scorned his family’s poor state would only have to bite down their teeth in regret. Ha-ha-ha. In a smile, his eyes roam around the classroom only to rest on the girl whose action seems out of place among the midst of the anxious students. A gloating look flickered across Julian’s eyes when he saw Sylvia’s sleeping figure. ‘Humph. I would like to see if you can still be arrogant as now once I’ve attained my huge feat.’ The first day Sylvia came to the first-year class, he had been enraptured by her beauty. Since Aviva was a person he couldn’t have, he decided to approach Sylvia instead. Coupled with the fact that they were both being ostracized by the whole classroom, he had thought that would brew a closed relationship between them. But who would have thought that she was in the same group of fish as the other student? Her egoistic character was even more superior than them. Out of everyone, Sylvia’s reaction was the one he wanted to see most once she learned of his temporary visit visa to the first-rate planet. The gloat in his eyes deepened as he imagined her shocking expression. Susu, who saw Julian giving his host a weird look couldn’t help but roll his invincible eyes. ‘Damm, why are there so many peculiar people around the host? It’s tiring to think of.’ “It’s out! It’s out! The result has been uploaded!” A student shouted.“Oh my God. It’s true.” “Jeez. I don’t think I can check out my results. I’m afraid my heart wouldn’t be able to handle the trauma once I see my score.” Sylvia was jolted awake by the loud noise around her. Even without asking what was going on, she could already convene the specific details about what was happening from the repeating syllables around her. [Host, the school year results have been uploaded. You are ranked first in the whole class and likewise first throughout the whole school with an overall point of 980. Looks like you were deducted 20 points in the physical assessment exam. If it weren’t for that, you would have gotten a perfect score.] Susu seems disappointed at the end. “I can’t believe I came 10th in the class rank! Finally, I’m able to save my two precious legs. Woo woo.” The boy burst into tears. “Yeah, me too.” The other boy said dryly. “Even though I barely went over the pass mark by a point, I still get to save my life too.” Still, he couldn’t help lamenting internally: ‘God, why did I pray to go over by just a point?’ If he had known that this would be the outcome, he would have prayed to get a hundred more points. But there was no time to regret now. Julian also saw his result. He was ranked 4th in the class rank and 529th in the overall rank. This is great. As a first-year student, his starting point could be said to be good. He then swipes his hand across the screen, scrolling downward as he searches for a certain person’s name. However, till he reached the bottom, he couldn’t make out any text conveying Sylvia’s name. A thrilled smile appeared on his face when he noticed this. There are two types of students whose names are omitted from the result list. The first are the ones whose points fall below the 50-mark lower limit, signifying that they failed woefully in the exam. And the second category of people are those who cheated in the exam. Julian didn’t know which category Sylvia fell into but he was very pleased to see that her name wasn’t on the list. He faced Sylvia’s direction, hoping to see a dejected look on her face but was instead met with her impassive signature expression. ‘Keep on pretending.’ “Sss.” One of the students shockingly inhaled when he saw the name of the person seated on the top overall rank. His friend took notice of his avid reaction and asked, “What is it? Did you fail or what?” He leaned over, wanting to look at the content on the screen. The moment he saw what had taken his friend by surprise, his eyes instantly widened in shock. “No way! It can’t be her, is it?” “She’s the one.” The student nodded in affirmation. “What the hell! There’s no way that’s true. How was she able to kick Louis out of the top position?!” His loud exclamation fell into everyone’s ears. “What? Louis has been kicked off the top position. How is that possible?” “Yeah. It did happen during the last midterm… Wait a minute. Don’t tell me the one who kicked Louis out of the top position is Sylvia?” Hearing this, everyone immediately went back to their device to check the name of the person seated in the top position. Soon enough, they found Sylvia’s name written there. “Oh my God, it’s her.” Julian heard the declaration and immediately scrolled to the top list he had previously skipped. The name SYLVIA AUSTEN was written boldly on the first position as if mocking him for his earlier thought. His face suddenly felt hot as if he had just been slapped right in the face. The grip on his device tightened, and his head lowered as his whole body trembled vigorously. Thankfully, no one noticed his reaction. Why? Just why? Why couldn’t I win for once? “Huh huh. Why isn’t Louis’s name seated in the second position?” “I thought it was only me who noticed it. I’ve already scrolled downward but his name doesn’t seem to be written anywhere else.” “Then what’s happening? Did the school make an error or what?” “It must be.” Julian rapidly jumped onto his feet and answered. The student’s gaze shifted on him due to his sudden movement. Julian continued. “You should all recall that Louis has been standing in the top position ever since we enrolled in the academy. So, how can his name mysteriously disappear from the result list? We all know how intelligent he is so the thought of him cheating or performing poorly in the exam isn’t feasible at all. Therefore, the only option available is that it must have been an error from the school.” When they heard this, the students all nodded in agreement. “That’s right. It must be an error from the academy.” “I concur with that too.” Sylvia stood up from her seat, ready to go home. Since the result had already been published, there was no need for her to linger here anymore. “Where are you going, Sylvia?” Julian questioned the moment he noticed her action. “Could it be that you are heading to the management team to report about the slip-up between you and Louis’s result?” “And why would I do that?” With a furrowed brow, Sylvia glanced coldly at the enquirer. “What do you mean? Don’t tell me you thought that those were your actual scores. Ha-ha-ha. How shameless can you be to think that you can top the whole school? Don’t be so thick-skinned.” Julian let out a scorn. [Seriously, I think there’s something wrong with his brain.] Susu couldn’t help but say. “He does have a point. Although you have a powerful contract beast at your beck, that doesn’t indicate that you’re capable of occupying Louis’s position.” A familiar female student added in. “Oh, and if I can recall, isn’t the reason why you were expelled from Roland Academy due to your bad grades? So how can someone with a history of poor grades suddenly become a top student? Could it be that you cheated your way up? Ah.” Julian covered his mouth at the end as he let out a light gasp. But under the palm, a playful smile was already evoking on his lips.
