Chapter 103 Departure

The exam was divided into two segments, both the theory and practical. Sylvia sat behind her desk, dutifully answering the questions that appeared on the screen before her. One could see the afterimage of her fingers as they swiftly move across the screen as she answers each question. There was no way out since the time slot given for completing each question was very short. Hence, you can also say this is a test of each person’s hand speed. With Susu assisting her in the dark, her fingers moved faster. Unfortunately, none of the students noticed Sylvia’s abnormal hand speed, or else, they would have been taken aback by how swiftly she was answering each question. An hour later, the theoretical aspect of the exam soon concluded. One by one, the students stepped out of their classes. “Fuck, I thought my hands were going to become paralyzed with how fast I was answering the questions.” One of the students let out. “Me too. It felt as if I’d been injected with an adrenaline rush. Thankfully, the tough aspect of the exam is finally over.” Another student heaved a sigh of relief. “You’re right. I didn’t even dare to turn my head around for fear that I might miss the time slot for answering the question. Damm, why does it feel as if I have just survived a big battle.” The high tension they’ve been feeling since morning suddenly went away. “Are you confident in going up in rank this time?” “Who knows? Although I did skip a few questions, my rank this time should be quite higher. Woo, let’s stop discussing the exam. I'm so famished. Let's hurry forward to the cafeteria before the seats are all taken.” Ever since the change in the food industry, the school cafeteria has now become a popular spot among the students. Sylvia strode out of the classroom to take a breather. She twists her wrist around, to relieve the stiffness on her hand. ‘Looks like I’ll have to apply some medicine on it once I get back home.’ While walking, a male student stopped in front of her, deliberately blocking her way. Sylvia thought it was another encounter of people trying to piss her off and was about to ignore the other person when a white envelope was suddenly pushed at her face. Sylvia's face which was previously covered in annoyance was now filled with a trace of confusion. Can someone please explain to her what was going on here? “Lo-Louie told me to pass you this.” The student stuttered as he relayed. Afraid that Sylvia wouldn't reach out for the envelope, he hurriedly added, “He also mentioned that if I fail to deliver the message to you, I should consider myself failing this exam.” He lifted his head and stared at Sylvia with a teary eye. “So junior, can you please accept it for my sake? I don't want to repeat another year of class.” Sylvia's first emotion was surprise, before then switching to that of regret. 'It seems like my previous threat bore no effect on him.' She has already made up in her mind to have a ‘small talk’ with Louie once she’s done with the practical exam. Facing the senior afflicted expression, Sylvia could only reach forward and take the envelope from his hand. With the advanced interstellar technology, messages can now be sent using various high-tech means. The passing of messages through the use of letters was already extinct. However, since Louie didn’t have any means of contacting Sylvia, he could only result in this way. A trace of relief flashed across the senior face when he saw that Sylvia didn’t reject him. It looks like being pitiful also has its mark. “Then, bye.” Before leaving, the senior looked at Sylvia bizarrely, then turned around and ran away. Sylvia had no intent on making him stay and watched his figure disappear into the crowd. She then looked over at the envelope lying on her palm. Her first impulse was to throw the letter into the trash can. What good can that guy say other than to make her angry? But maybe due to the novelty that Louie dares to write a letter to her, she flips open the cover and takes out the letter inside. On the first margin of the page were tiny scribbles that read: 'If you do read this letter, then it does mean that I have a special place in your heart, Sylvia.' When she read this, Sylvia was choked up. Her face flushed in anger. ‘Damm, why did I even bother opening that fool’s letter’. She was about to discard the paper into the nearby trash when Susu suddenly reached out to stop her. [Host, wait. It looks like he does have something to say to you.] 'What else could he say than stuff to get me riled up.' But under Susu’s persuasion, Sylvia finally continued to read the later parts of the letter. 'Ha-ha-ha, I’m pretty sure you must have thrown the paper into the trash by now. But if you haven't, then it does mean that I do have a special place in your heart.' Sylvia's mouth subconsciously twitched, but she still maintained her reasoning and continued on reading. 'You know, why do you dislike me so much? My heart hurts whenever I see you gaze at me with that alienated look. I do think that both of us are of the same mind. We’re both bloodied, fierce, and cruel. The bloodthirsty aura on your body must have accumulated due to the high number of people you’ve killed, right? However, this made me curious. From the investigation I did, you’ve just started venturing into the wilds some months back. How could a young girl like you suddenly attain such a huge murderous intent? It’s somewhat astonishing. You piqued my curiosity, Sylvia Austen. It's so unfortunate that I won't be able to unlock the hidden mystery in your heart. By the time this letter gets to you, I might have already departed. Although it’s somewhat early to say, congratulations in advance for coming out as an ace in the exam. My congratulatory gift will be delivered to you tomorrow. Written from the one you care most in your heart, Louie' Sylvia's eyes skimmed through the nonsensical part before focusing on the sentence written in the last paragraph. “He's leaving?” There was a faint ripple of excitement in her eyes. [Yeah. I did see a black hovercar come to pick him up before the commencement of the exam.] So, he didn't partake in the exam at all. No wonder he's congratulating her in advance. “That’s great.” The corner of her mouth hooked into a gleeful smile. She won't have to see that annoying face around her anymore. It’s indeed true that she hates Louie's presence around her. Especially when the latter looks at her with that whimsical expression in his eyes. She could see that Louie regarded her as a plaything he could want anytime. There were several times she wished to gouge those eyes of his out. Who the hell does he think he is to dare look down on others? From Louie’s write-up, Sylvia could see that he was already suspicious of her identity but had no evidence to back up his claim. However, she wasn’t afraid of him. There was no way the other party would have suspected that the soul was what changed and not the body. Hence, he would only continue to test the water to see if she would slip up. “Hmph.” She sneered and crumbled the letter in her hand before throwing it into a nearby trash. She then walked forward, blending into the wave of people. In the afternoon, Sylvia did the practical aspect of the exam. With her ample experience, she was able to take down each simulation beast, achieving a high score on the assessment. Since the exam results would only be released tomorrow, everyone began to go home. === At home, Sylvia received a call from Miley. “Are you done with your exam?” Miley questioned at the other end of the transmission. “Yes.” Sylvia's voice was soft as she answered. “Great. Why don't we celebrate your passing out into the next class in the virtual net?” Miley suggested. Sylvia was surprised at this. Although they do meet at the mercenary hall, she hasn’t yet encountered any of the Tyron guild members in the virtual net. “Where are you located in the virtual net?” She asked. “The A zone. Our guild has a building situated there where we lounge whenever we log in. Oh, I haven’t seemed to have told you yet. Wait a minute, I'll send you the location coordinates. What's your ID number?” “No, it's okay. My mental strength is still low for me to access the A zone.” Miley immediately realizes that. She then proposed again: “Why don't we meet up where you're? We haven't yet had a team gathering dinner. Perhaps, we can get to know each other more.” “Alright.” Sylvia shared her location coordinates. “Okay, I'll inform the others about the gathering. See you at night.” Miley said before ending the call. “Oh, I should have informed her about my appearance.” Well, it looks like the Tyron group members are in it for a huge surprise tonight.
