Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Their way of thinking differed from ordinary people's, so their moral compass didn't always align with everyone else's. Especially in the current apocalypse, Shane could act without any restraint. The problem was, patients with mental illness didn't suffer from reduced intelligence. After being provoked, they would still think, plan, and bide their time before striking back at the opportune moment. Shane also possessed abilities they could barely contend with but couldn't kill him in one strike. Keeping Shane around was like living beside a ticking time bomb. You could say Caroline and her group were being overly cautious, but having faced countless dangers in the apocalypse, they had to be extremely careful and walk on eggshells. Shane was like a double-edged sword. Keeping him around could indeed be useful. But in certain extreme situations, if he completely exploded, it really could result in casualties among Caroline's group—or even end with them all wiped out. "We were wrong." After these thoughts circled through Caroline's mind, she suddenly looked at Shane and said this. Shane, who was already on the edge of a breakdown, suddenly turned to Caroline, as if he hadn't expected her to say that. Caroline knew that right now, the most important thing was to stabilize Shane's emotions. "If you want a fight, we can settle it in a fair, open battle—but not here. If you want cupcakes, we can compensate you. However many you want, we'll give you that many, until you're satisfied. Or if you want something else, you can tell me. "The reason we sent you away back then was because we were afraid of you. Just like right now, we're still afraid of you. "Can you give us one more chance to make it up to you?" Caroline softened her voice, speaking to Shane like she was coaxing a child. At the same time, another cupcake appeared in her hand. This time, it was the exact kind she'd given Nelson before, which Nelson had then given to Shane. When dealing with someone having a mental health crisis, you absolutely couldn't contradict them, or the consequences would be disastrous. Shane didn't speak, fixated on the cupcake in Caroline's hand. His entire body was filled with murderous intent, as if he could explode at any moment. After a long while, he lifted his head, the corners of his mouth curving into a chilling smile. Combined with his sickly pale skin, he looked like a demon crawling out of hell. "I want Nelson. Hand Nelson over to me, or you all die! I want Nelson!" From his tone, it sounded like he wanted to tear Nelson limb from limb. Those unnerving eyes made Caroline even more certain. She absolutely couldn't hand Nelson over to him, or it would be trading Nelson's life for everyone else's. After Shane finished saying this, Caroline felt the base beneath her feet begin shaking even more violently. The tremors were almost as strong as an earthquake. The army ant swarm outside the base jittered from the tremors. The ant queen's compound eyes showed panic as it rapidly communicated with the ants beside it using its antennae. In just a moment, the army ant swarm retreated like a receding tide. Inside the base, countless people saw the army ants retreating, and many civilians began to cheer. But the base's tremors threw them into panic again. When they learned the shaking wasn't an earthquake at all but trouble caused by Caroline and her group, thunderous roars echoed through the base. "Make them leave! "Get Caroline and her group out of here! "Get those people with special treatment out of the base!" Wave after wave of shouts came from all directions throughout the base. At this moment, Caroline, Tyler, and the others felt the tremors but didn't make a move. Because Shane had disappeared again. "Tyler, go find Shane quickly!" Caroline shouted to Tyler ahead. Tyler could now hide within metal, making it more convenient to search. Caroline bit her lip, thinking damn it, every time Shane showed up, he gave everyone a splitting headache. Was this what it meant to have abilities close to that of a god? At this moment, Shane was completely invisible, darting through the base like a madman. His eyes were blood-red, his entire body wrapped in wind, moving at incredible speed. Some of the rioting civilians felt a gust of wind pass by, and some were even blown off balance, yet they didn't see any figure. Right now, Shane had only one thought filling his mind—find Nelson. Nelson had lied to him. He was going to beat Nelson up, beat him up badly, and make Nelson apologize. If Nelson couldn't give him a satisfactory answer, he would even kill Nelson. He was going to kill Nelson. In the end, the longer he searched for Nelson without finding him, only one phrase remained in Shane's mind—kill Nelson, kill Nelson, kill Nelson!
