Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 555 It Has to Be Heaven

At that, Jet visibly drooped. Caroline patted his head. "It's fine as long as you're not scared. Let's go find Tyler." She had a bad feeling—Tyler was probably in serious trouble. Otherwise, he wouldn't have taken so long to reach her and Nelson. Even Silver hadn't found any trace of him. Still, she wasn't overly panicked. With Tyler's ability, he should be able to stay alive. ... Meanwhile, Nelson blinked and found himself somewhere completely unfamiliar, stunned. He remembered being close to death just moments ago. So how did he end up in this place? The area felt like a peaceful countryside, calm and quiet. He even felt his strength coming back! Just then, something brushed against his feet. Looking down, he saw a chubby, five-tailed cat walking toward him. The cat had upturned almond eyes. The moment he saw Nelson, he spoke. "Hmm? You're the first man Caroline has ever brought here." After a brief pause, Nelson scooped the cat up. "Chubby, cute, fluffy, can talk, looks smart ... looks mutated! I like it!" Raven, who had just arrived, saw Nelson staring at Jasper with pure delight. Meanwhile, Jasper yowled and kicked Nelson's chest with his back paws. But Nelson didn't care. He just murmured, lost in bliss, "Heaven ... This place has to be heaven." Raven, not exactly human-smart but way above most mutant dogs, thought Nelson was acting weird. Putting Nelson into the storage space had been a last-ditch move. But given the team's situation, Caroline thought it was fine to show a little about her space. She trusted Nelson, Tyler, and Denton. Her old rule still applied. If no one asked, she wouldn't reveal anything. But if the situation demanded it, she wouldn't bend over backward to hide it. Like the mobile base—she'd chalked it up to an ability since it was simpler. And honestly, a mobile base alone wasn't enough reason to reveal the whole storage space. In this case, though, Nelson had been in mortal danger. Sending him into space was the wisest choice. After all, he'd risked his life to save her. Afraid that she might fall into the abyss and get hurt, he didn't hesitate and bring himself down like a human medical device. How could she ignore that? Still, Caroline sighed, hoping Nelson didn't go too wild in there. All of that passed in a heartbeat. The main priority now was finding Tyler as fast as possible. She didn't know that Denton above was already frantic. Silver had flown up again to report what had happened below. When he heard that Caroline and Nelson had regrouped and were safe, Denton was relieved. But when Silver said she had circled twice and still couldn't find Tyler, Denton started tearing at his hair. How could Tyler just disappear? ... Caroline and Denton couldn't have known and couldn't even have imagined it. Tyler was having the worst luck imaginable. He was trapped in total darkness, unable to make sense of where he was. He kept calling Caroline's name, hoping she'd answer, but there was only silence—not even an echo. Something felt very wrong. After all, the place he had jumped from should have been a narrow crevice. But the space he was in now was a pitch-black, vast area. He had been walking for a long time and hadn't found any other creatures. There were no jagged walls or contours like a crevice should have. There wasn't even a sliver of light. Everything seemed swallowed by darkness. He tried using his storage space, but it was like the space had disconnected from him. He couldn't access anything inside. With no light source, he had to move blindly. Tyler tried extending metallic threads to explore, but the more he tried, the more disoriented he became. This place seemed endless.
