Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
But that house came from the storage space, so it was way tougher than normal buildings. The walls and shields were reinforced. There was no way falling rocks or quakes would break them or cause a collapse. But Caroline realized she had forgotten about one problem—the ground. Regular quakes didn't make cracks this huge. In her previous life, she'd never seen fissures this extreme. But this time, the violent shaking and the gigantic split in the earth were right in front of them. Just as everyone was heading inside, the ground suddenly jolted with an even stronger tremor. The crack, which was more than six feet away from Caroline's feet, suddenly stretched right under her. The shaking made it impossible to keep balance. The ground split so fast that no one could react. Caroline felt her footing vanish—and she fell. But the instant she dropped, she entered her storage space. A few feet away, Tyler saw it happen. He didn't think twice before jumping in after her. "Tyler!" Denton yelled. He reached out, but it was already too late. At that moment, Denton and Nelson were standing on the steps. Denton spun around in panic and looked down, but he couldn't see Caroline or Tyler. The crack was over three feet wide. Light only lit the first few feet. Below that, everything was pitch-black. Nothing visible at all. Denton's mind went blank. He kept yelling Caroline and Tyler's names until his voice nearly gave out. Next to him, Nelson mumbled constantly. It seemed like he was doing math or muttering theories. Caroline's and Tyler's names mixed into his rambling. Then, Nelson appeared to make up his mind and went to jump, but Denton grabbed him firmly."Let go of me! If they're hurt, I'm the only one who can fix them!" Only then did Denton realize Nelson's eyes were bright red for just a few seconds. Denton gritted his teeth. He was terrified too. But he'd been on missions with Tyler before. They'd been close to death more than once. On their first mission together, Tyler told him a non-negotiable rule. "If you don't know the situation and you're not sure you can survive it, don't rush in to save someone. Whatever happens, make sure you stay safe and think clearly. Otherwise, you won't just fail to save them—you might lose your own life too." So when Denton got captured once, Tyler only saved him after sneaking in again and again and getting information. People who lived like that didn't get second chances. So now, Denton forced himself to be calm. He clenched his teeth, swallowed the fear, and told Nelson, "We need a long and super-strong rope first. I'll take your blood down. You stay up top and pull me out. We can't ... all die here." Denton's words calmed Nelson a little. Without talking, he ran back inside to grab a rope. Denton shouted to the sky, "Silver!" Silver was already flying overhead, waiting for his order. He pointed at the gap. "Go down. Find Tyler and Caroline." Silver dove straight down. Just then, Denton felt wind rush past him, and a shadow shot by and disappeared. He didn't even have time to grab it. Raven leaped and jumped straight into the crack. "Raven!" This time, Denton almost cried. Why did another one jump in? He could only bite down the panic. He stomped the ground hard. "I'm gonna lose it! I wanna go down too! Ahhhh!" But after yelling, he forced himself to focus again. At the same time, Nelson had already brought back a rope. But the rope was tied around himself. The moment Denton saw that, he knew it was bad. He rushed forward to stop Nelson. Right then, something sped past Denton. He tried to dodge, but another body slammed into him and knocked him down. By the time he got up, Nelson had already jumped. Only one sentence floated back. "I won't die."
