Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 505 Rating Jasper and the Mystery of the Ranch

Jasper nodded obediently, then rubbed against Caroline's leg. "Caroline, don't forget to give Jasper a five-star rating this month!" Caroline suddenly remembered the feature that unlocked when the storage space upgraded. Once a month, she could rate Jasper. Since today was as good a day as any, she summoned the system and found the rating page. She gave Jasper a five-star rating. Jasper spun in place with joy. "Caroline, you're the best!" Caroline patted his head and left the storage space. She had a feeling Jasper knew more than he was saying. Maybe the day it earned real freedom would be the day it finally told her the storage space's secrets. That same day, Caroline reviewed the ability of the man who had transferred his injuries to others. What she didn't expect was that his power was actually a healing ability. Life Ability: One Thought to Save or Destroy Notes: This ability lets the user transfer someone else's injuries onto themselves or any nearby person. It can also transfer the user's injuries to others. Transferring others' injuries to oneself saves them. Transferring one's own injuries to others can kill them. This ability is like a blade that can save or kill. Caroline was nearly hurt by it earlier. No one knows whether she will use it to help or harm. Uses Remaining: 5. "So this is the apocalypse." Caroline sighed after reading it. The ability was interesting. Used well, it could be a perfect distraction tactic. Caroline rubbed her chin as she thought it through. As for the animals Denton and Nelson worked so hard to gather, Caroline released most of them and left a few in the Loving Ranch. But something unexpected happened. Even though the animals could live inside the ranch, they produced no by-products.Caroline then remembered that the Loving Ranch had never housed wild mutated creatures before. The few mutated piglets she had were lab-bred. Their mutation levels had been guided by scientists. Even though the original piglets mutated in the wild, Francis had explained that later generations were genetically edited to improve meat quality. Their mutations were controlled for food production. Creatures bred and mutated under controlled conditions seemed able to produce by-products. But the ones that mutated out in the wild just to survive ... not so much. Caroline thought of the mutated silly roe deer. It looked harmless, but its hide was tough as armor, and its hooves had hardened into sharp spikes for attacking. Even the cute deer had antlers designed for fighting and fur that blended into the environment. Her ranch had only one wild mutated resident before this—the dinosaur egg. Just like the new animals, the dinosaur egg's by-product display had always shown, "Calculating..." Caroline had assumed it was a special case, but after she added the roe deer and baby deer, the ranch displayed the exact same message. Everything was stuck in calculation. Yet the vibrant fish pond could house a fully intelligent giant fish with no problem. Why couldn't the Loving Ranch do the same? She reopened the ranch description, looking for clues. Loving Ranch Level: 3 Features: All animals in the ranch coexist peacefully. The storage space will feed them automatically using space energy. Caroline may also feed them manually. Every animal can now produce two types of by-products. Limit: If storage space energy runs low, the ranch will drain power from the spring. Remember to feed your space before that happens! Note: Life is precious. Take good care of your animals. New Upgrade Feature: Each week, one random animal will appear in the ranch and generate a random by-product. Treasure it, even if it's useless. But that dinosaur egg ... wasn't an animal. Caroline stared at the description, silent. It clearly stated "all animals," yet it allowed a dinosaur egg inside. Was the egg considered an animal or not? If all mutated creatures counted as animals, then why could the lab-tweaked piglets produce by-products, while the truly wild ones couldn't? She dragged Jasper over. Jasper admitted he didn't know either. But since it had just received a five-star rating, its enthusiasm was at an all-time high. Tail flicking, Jasper spun in place several times, pretending to think deeply.
