Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Denton almost beat Snow up over it. He even sulked for days. "Caroline, do you think maybe it wasn't Snow who interrupted the vision? Maybe I just don't have a girlfriend in the future, so you couldn't see anything?" Feeling dejected, Denton said he no longer wanted to know the future. He preferred to take life step by step—it was better to leave some mystery. Then he snatched back the paper titled Things Denton Wants to Know About the Future and ripped it up. Caroline was speechless. And so, she still hadn't figured out the true way to use that ability. In truth, Caroline felt the same about the future as Denton did. Other than using foresight to detect danger, she didn't really want to know too much. But some questions she asked repeatedly never returned any answers—like when the apocalypse would end, what caused it, and where the safest place on Earth was. Each time, all she saw was white fog. After that, she stopped bothering Crow for a few days. Crow, meanwhile, had been living his best life. With Caroline not showing up, he ate well, slept well, even took afternoon naps, feeling healthier by the day. That afternoon, as he dozed, he suddenly felt a chill on his back—like a draft slipping in through the window. His eyes flew open. For a split second he thought, Caroline's here again. He reached out automatically, ready for her to copy his ability. Instead, his fingers brushed against something sharp—cold metal. A knife. And not just a knife—a knife held by someone's hand. Crow's sleep vanished in an instant. He jerked upright, but the stranger pressed the blade to his throat. A cool, quiet voice whispered near his ear. "Crow. Tell me everything you know." It was Tyler. Crow nearly burst into tears. Hadn't he already told Tyler and Caroline everything last time? He'd even been cooperating lately, letting Caroline copy his ability whenever she wanted. What now? And Tyler was worse than Caroline—at least Caroline smiled when she woke him up in the middle of the night. Tyler came with a knife! Meanwhile, Caroline followed Dyson through Building B. The two chatted as they walked, looking like old friends catching up. Eventually, Dyson stopped in front of a door. He said there was a new invention inside that he wanted to show her. Caroline agreed. But when the door opened, the room beyond was pitch black. She froze at the threshold. Then Dyson suddenly shouted, "Ah! The insect disaster! It's outside the window! Caroline, hurry, come look—the insect disaster is here!" Caroline blinked. She knew insect disasters did happen during the great heat period, but it shouldn't be happening now. Before she could respond, Dyson had already rushed inside, standing by the window, calling anxiously, "Caroline, come look! Can you tell what kind of bugs these are?" She frowned. Something about this felt wrong. His tone was too fake, his acting too deliberate—as if he wasn't afraid she'd notice. As if he wanted her to. She held her ground. Dyson sighed. "Caroline, you're no fun. Can't even play along with a joke." Then he made a pushing gesture. Caroline had been watching him carefully, ready for a trick from the front—yet the shove came from behind. Something invisible pushed her squarely in the back. She stumbled forward into the room. The door slammed shut behind her. But there was no one there. The moment she stepped inside, she spun around—no one was there. Yet she had definitely been pushed. The force had made her lose balance. It wasn't about strength—it was pure instinct, something no amount of body control could stop. She didn't jump into her storage space. She wanted to see what Dyson was planning first. He sighed again, walked over, and flipped on the lights. "Getting you in here took more effort than I thought." Caroline looked around. It was a huge room. The walls were lined with rows of dark wooden plaques. Every single one had a name carved on it. Dyson smiled faintly. "Caroline, I want to add your name to this wall."
