Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 482 Denton's Secret Weapon

Because of her ability's restriction, Caroline couldn't kill Ryan. She wasn't even sure if she would stop Tyler or Denton if they tried. Tyler frowned and said quietly, "You're here for me, aren't you? Let Denton go. I'll go with you." "Tyler!" Denton shouted through clenched teeth. Ryan turned toward Tyler, a slow smile spreading across his face. At that moment, Denton seemed to make up his mind. He tightened his fists. "Looks like I'll have to use it." Right after he said that, Caroline heard a soft pop. Before she could react, Tyler grabbed her arm and pulled her backward fast. They retreated about 30 feet before Caroline tried to speak, but Tyler suddenly clamped his hand over her mouth and nose. She froze. He spoke quickly. "Hold your breath." She didn't know why, but thinking of Denton's ability, she obeyed immediately. A thick yellow gas spread in front of her, almost covering the entire mobile base. Even though they were far away, they were still at the edge of the cloud. Caroline tried to see what was happening inside, worried about Denton. But the moment she opened her eyes wider, they started to burn. Then she felt her body begin to go numb. It was Denton's ability. Just breathing in his odor could affect the nerves and cause paralysis. She hadn't expected that now, even without breathing it in, just looking at it was enough to feel the effects. Tyler pulled her a few more steps back and took out four masks and two eye shields from his storage space. They silently put them on before speaking again. Tyler said, "A few days ago, after soaking in the spring water, Denton told me his ability had leveled up. He said it's not just what we've seen—he can feel more things now. He also whispered to me that he has a new ultimate move." He didn't finish, but Caroline got the idea. That move was definitely powerful. Tyler continued, "He said it kind of ruins his chances of finding a girlfriend, so he didn't want to use it. He even told me not to tell anyone. Said it's his trump card—only for emergencies." Caroline was speechless. Even without that move, Denton's ability already made dating hard enough. And so much for keeping it secret—it had barely been two days and he'd already blown his cover. When the yellow gas finally began to fade, Caroline and Tyler added another layer of masks and carefully walked to where Denton stood near the door. Ryan was lying on the ground, completely unconscious. Denton looked pitifully at them. "Tyler, Caroline, can you keep what just happened a secret? And I really don't want to use that again." Caroline patted his head. "Alright. Don't worry. It was unexpected, but impressive." Denton's eyes widened. "Really?" Caroline nodded. "Of course." A smile broke across his face. "You're so nice, Caroline. Still trying to comfort me even now. You don't know how much courage it took to release... I mean, to activate that ability!" Caroline patted his head again. Poor kid, so simple-minded. Then she froze Ryan solid in ice. Having seen how ruthless he could be—his severed foot still lying on the floor—they didn't dare take chances. They went inside to find Nelson, who quickly prepared a sedative injection. The shot would paralyze the body but keep the mind awake. After Ryan was injected, Caroline used her ability to summon a basin of water and splashed it over his head. He woke up almost instantly. To everyone's surprise, when he woke up, he looked around in shock and confusion. "W-where am I? Tyler? Denton? What are you doing here?" The group exchanged wary glances. They couldn't tell if Ryan was pretending or if something was really wrong. No one spoke for a moment. After a few seconds, Ryan seemed to realize something. "Did I just... attack you? I think something's wrong with me. Ever since I awakened my ability, I haven't been myself. Tyler, please... kill me. End it."
