Chapter 457 Raven Wakes Up

Early in the morning, Caroline felt something tickling her face. Half-asleep, she murmured, "Raven, cut it out." Then she froze. Raven was supposed to be downstairs. Caroline shot upright, instantly alert—a weapon appearing in her hand. She saw Raven staring at her with bright, shiny eyes, his tail spinning like a little fan. Jet was beside him. The bird was trying hard not to laugh, but he was still making soft "hee-hee-hee" sounds—she finally understood. Raven was awake! And of course Jet had opened the door for him. The two must have tiptoed into her bedroom together, quietly lay down next to her, and waited for the perfect moment just to startle her awake. Even though they were older now and supposedly mature, Caroline still wanted to lightly knock their heads. She quickly scooped Raven into her arms and checked him from head to toe. Smooth fur. No injuries. A healthy shine. His eyes looked brighter and more human-like. Only then did she relax. And she had to admit, Raven looked even cooler now. His eyes had changed—one blue, one gold. With his dark fur, he looked even more handsome. "Raven, did you get a new ability?" Caroline asked, hopeful. But Raven didn't show anything. Instead, he tilted his head and stared at her. Raven's gaze filled with even stronger expectation than hers. Then Caroline heard it. A stomach growl. A very long, very loud one. It was so intense she felt the mattress shake beneath her. Raven was definitely hungry enough to eat a whole mountain. "Time to eat! You must be starving!" Caroline couldn't help but worry about Raven. He had gone almost three days without food. Of course, he needed a proper meal. Then she finally learned what a true bottomless pit looked like.Pot after pot of meat disappeared into Raven's mouth. He gulped down dog food like it was nothing. A few days ago, the army's canned-food factory had sent them a batch to divide. Caroline had opened one to taste it and found it completely salt-free. So she opened more than a hundred cans for Raven. Raven finished all of them. When he finally stopped, Raven sat quietly on the floor. He looked down at his slightly rounded belly. On his dark dog face was an expression of embarrassment. Caroline froze. Was this the intelligence of a dog with two abilities? This was unbelievable. His second ability was an earth ability. She had just touched Raven when the Zero System sent her a notice. After opening it, she finally understood why Raven hadn't shown his ability earlier. There was nothing in the room suitable for a demonstration. Raven clearly didn't want to hurt her or Jet. Mutated Earth Ability: Gravity Field. Note: Within a 215-square-foot range, the user has full control. The user can adjust the gravity that all living beings inside the field experience, from 0.3× to 5× normal gravity. If used well, you can make your enemy submit to you and call you their boss. This ability is extremely powerful in group fights. No one would expect the one awakening it to be a dog—Caroline's dog, no less! Caroline really lucked out this time. Available Uses: X5. Caroline was studying the panel when she suddenly heard a loud thud beside her. Jet, who had been floating in midair a second ago, dropped straight to the ground like a rock. He landed flat on his back, wings sprawled out. Several feathers drifted down like sad little snowflakes. "Ow! Ow! Ow! Human, look! Raven's trying to show you his ability! This—this is it! Did you see it? If you saw it, tell Raven to let me go!" Jet wailed at the top of his lungs. Only then did Caroline understand. She was moved earlier on. Caroline thought Raven didn't show his ability earlier because he was worried about her and Jet. Turns out she was completely wrong. Raven wasn't being thoughtful; he was simply too hungry to use his ability. Now that his belly was full, he decided Jet was the perfect test subject. Caroline checked Jet quickly. As a mutated chubby bird who had soaked in spring water, he was fine. Not even a bruise.Jet kept shouting anyway. "Raven! You promised to give me a bowl of broth later! And you said you'd help me win Silver's heart! I sacrificed myself for you! Don't back out!" Caroline had no words. Great. A moment ago she actually worried for Jet, watching him fall and shed feathers. Clearly that worry was wasted. Still, she hurriedly told Raven that she understood his ability and told him to stop. But she didn't expect what happened next.
