Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 417 Sentient Giant Fish

The power of the giant fish was not exactly heaven-defying, but it was definitely not easy to deal with. Caroline could sense that the singing ability it had used before was not even its full strength. So she thought, Fish weren't known for their intelligence. Even if this one had mutated and gained some intelligence, it couldn't be too smart. Which meant maybe I could outsmart it. That was when she remembered the fish pond that had suddenly appeared in her space. Vibrant Fish Pond Level: 1 Function: In the Vibrant Fish Pond, all kinds of fish can coexist peacefully. The space will automatically feed and clean the pond, maintaining full automation. Of course, the space owner may feed them manually as well. For now, no by-products will be produced until further upgrades. Limit: When the space lacks energy, it will draw power from the healing spring, so remember to feed or replenish energy in time. Also, piranhas and mermaids cannot be raised. Note: This feature has been specially blessed by the space guardian, Jasper. Two types of fish fry can be chosen by the space owner's will. The pond clearly stated that piranhas and mermaids could not be raised, but it never said anything about mutated fish! After that incident with the naked man's ability, Caroline had learned to read every word of the space's descriptions very carefully. She now realized that those long-winded introductions weren't just filler. Every line meant something. The fish pond's introduction basically screamed: This pond is amazing! Aside from mermaids and piranhas, you can raise anything you want! So Caroline decided to take a gamble. And she won. "Come on, Raven, let's go check out our new fish fry!" Caroline patted Raven's furry head. Raven was stunned. It finally understood what its human had been scheming all along. The admiration it felt for its human was beyond words. When Caroline said she wanted to check inside the space, Raven was all in. However, the moment they entered, they saw Jasper sitting by the pond, tail swishing lazily, watching the water with keen interest. Every now and then, he would reach out a paw to tap at the surface. When he noticed Caroline, Jasper turned his head, licking his lips with obvious excitement. "Caroline, there's a huge fish in here! Can I eat it?" As he spoke, the giant fish suddenly leapt out of the pond, jaws wide open, aiming straight for Jasper's fluffy head. Not a single drop of water splashed. Like the ranch, the pond had an invisible barrier separating the inside from the outside. A sharp thud echoed as the fish slammed against the unseen wall. Jasper didn't even flinch. Still sitting perfectly straight, he blinked lazily, then lifted a paw and licked his pads just as the fish dove up again—his eyes clearly saying one thing: Yummy. With a heavy thud, the fish crashed back into the water, its thrashing tail showing just how angry it was. "Jasper, this fish seems a little different from the others," Caroline said cautiously. The cat tilted his head, big almond-shaped eyes gleaming. "Does that mean the meat tastes better?" Bang! The fish roared in fury again. "Uh, it's actually a sentient creature," Caroline said. "You can talk to it sometimes, you know. Keep it company." Jasper's eyes went wide, shining with excitement. "Like, discuss the ways to cook it? "Steamed, poached, braised, smoked, fried ... " Jasper started listing them one by one. Caroline rolled her eyes. Seriously, could he not say that right in front of the poor fish? This was just awkward. The fish, hearing Jasper's "menu," grew even more enraged, leaping out of the water again and again, desperate to swallow him whole. But of course, the space barrier was unbreakable. Jasper sat there, calmly counting out cooking methods, while the fish behind the shield nearly lost its mind. And from the mischievous gleam in Jasper's eyes, Caroline could tell that he was doing it on purpose. Good. That meant she did not have to worry. At least now, neither Jasper nor the giant fish would be lonely. Having spent enough time outside already, Caroline did not dare delay any longer. She took Raven and exited the space. After checking the surrounding area again, she confirmed that the giant fish had likely been the main presence here. There were no other dangerous mutant creatures nearby, and since the place was not heavily populated, there was not much human waste either.
