Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
He stood up again. His body was completely broken, held together only by threads of blood—like a shattered doll strung up by countless wires. The sight was eerie and chilling. "We can't kill him. Don't waste your energy." Caroline already knew this outcome. In her future vision, she knew she'd eventually copy this psycho's ability after getting the orange energy. So this time, he definitely wouldn't die. She just kept attacking because she wanted to see how powerful his ability really was. Tyler looked cold. He listened to Caroline and stepped back. Raven and Snow stood to the side, baring their teeth at that monster. Jet circled overhead, yelling, "Ugly freak! Monster!" Right before their eyes, the man slowly reformed into a human shape within three minutes. His wounds even started to heal. Just as the man was almost fully restored, Caroline rushed forward and jabbed a syringe into his neck, drawing a tube of blood for Nelson to study. The man didn't resist or even seem to care that she'd taken his blood. You could tell he wasn't dead, but he was extremely weak and couldn't react to what was happening around him. About two minutes later, the man had mostly recovered. He looked at Caroline and Tyler, then locked eyes with Caroline. "Y-You are interesting. You can command those pets and use strange abilities. I like you. You're even more fun than the animals." Tyler frowned slightly, his gaze turning dangerous. Caroline also frowned. This guy was disgusting, terrifying, and naked! And now he said he liked her? The man jumped back onto the railing, seeming to recognize that Caroline and Tyler weren't easy targets. He didn't attack immediately, just stood there studying them, along with Raven and the other pets.As he looked, his attention went back to Caroline, and he smiled. "If I take you, will all these animals and that man beside you come play with me? They all seem to listen to you." His words oozed malice. He even stuck out the tip of his tongue, licking his cracked lips while staring straight at Caroline. It was beyond disgusting. Caroline and Tyler attacked again. But this time, the man didn't fight back. Instead, he flipped backward off the railing, falling straight down from the 66th floor. "Hehehehe, I found something fun." His voice lingered in the air as he vanished. Caroline ran to the railing, but he was gone. Then, she turned to Raven. "Can you still smell him?" Raven sniffed around for a while, then looked up at Jet in the sky. Jet flapped his wings and relayed the message, "Human, Raven says the guy's gone. Can't smell him anywhere around here!" Snow also barked twice, confirming she didn't smell anything either. Tyler looked at Caroline. "Be careful. He might come back." Caroline nodded. She was worried about that too. That guy was a real psychopath—could turn invisible and incredibly strong. And he had his eyes on Caroline. Caroline suddenly felt like this apartment wasn't safe anymore. "Let's go downstairs." Since the plague situation in the shelter wasn't fully resolved yet, Caroline and Tyler led the little ones downstairs. Before leaving, she brought out two basins of spring water and poured it over Medusa and Handsy's roots, hoping their injuries would heal after a while. Tyler didn't ask what she was using, not even when fresh buds sprouted instantly from the trees' wounds. That's just how he was. If Caroline didn't take the initiative to say something, he wouldn't ask. If she did, he'd listen. Back when he first met Caroline, and saw Raven, he already suspected that Caroline was the same person as the one he met on the opposite rooftop before. That's why he paid extra attention to her back then. But Tyler's approach was simple. If he thought you were a good person and someone worth having as a friend, he accepted you—quirks, secrets, and all. Because in the environment he grew up in, and later in the mercenary group, he'd met all kinds of people with their own secrets and quirks, himself included. He'd observed Caroline for a while. After learning about storage space, he suspected that she had one, too.
