Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
The second image left Caroline puzzled. Why on earth would she be in a desert? In her previous life, she had never even left Hornvale, and she had no plans to leave this time either. When she heard the third image described, she froze for a moment but didn't overthink it. Instead, a small spark of hope rose inside her. At least this time, her future didn't look tragic. Whatever awaited her, as long as it was peaceful, that was enough. Still, she replayed those three images in her head. After a deep breath, she glanced sideways at Tyler. Tyler, meanwhile, had a small smirk on his lips. He didn't care much about what the future held. He never believed in fate anyway. When there was a problem, he solved it. When there was an enemy, he killed them. The only reason he'd agreed to Crow's condition was because Crow had said "your future." Yeah—your—meaning plural. Tyler wasn't afraid of anything, and he wasn't particularly curious about destiny. But he was definitely curious about "your future," the one that involved him and Caroline. Now, when Caroline looked over at him, Tyler met her gaze. Neither of them said a word, but something unspoken passed between them. "I'm not expecting much from love," Caroline said quietly. "I just want to live well." "With a world like this, romance should probably come last," Tyler replied with a nod. After speaking, Caroline felt a strange sense of relief. But a thought crept into her mind—if she really had to spend her life with someone, Tyler didn't seem like a bad choice. Tyler, meanwhile, had one thought in his mind, We've got plenty of time. And after hearing what Crow saw, he didn't feel like holding back anymore. When it came to feelings, Tyler was a complete novice. He had never liked anyone before. Caroline was the first woman who had ever felt different to him. Crow, ever observant, caught the subtle looks between them and instantly understood what the third vision had meant. First he was stunned, then he muttered internally, "Ah, so that's what it was."But soon, frustration flooded his mind. You two, stop staring at each other and let me go already! Outside, the guards were going crazy. They had tried every possible method, but nothing could move the barrier blocking the entrance. After all, following the battles from the past few days, most of the strong ability users in Building B were still injured—some hadn't even woken up yet. The rest weren't exactly weak, but they weren't strong enough either. Out in the open, they might be decent fighters, but against Caroline and Tyler, they didn't stand a chance. By now, Caroline and Tyler had learned everything they could from Crow. There was nothing left to ask. Some of the information, though, would need time to unpack later. So, they decided to release him. Just then, a voice echoed through a megaphone outside. "Listen up! We've got your friend! If you don't want him dead, let Mr. Crow go!" A mess of shouts and scuffling followed. Then Nelson's angry voice came blasting through, breath ragged. "You bastards! Touch me again and I'll jab you with a syringe!" Caroline's expression turned cold. She shot a glare at Crow. "You sent people to capture Nelson?" "Yes," Crow admitted. "You wouldn't let him meet me or save Dyson. Catching him was thanks to the hidden line I told Lisa to plant in Building A. That network was meant to dig into your background, but it ended up helping me catch Nelson instead ... " He launched into a full explanation, proudly describing his plan. Caroline wasn't having it. "Shut up," she ordered. She yanked the Truth Helmet off his head, grabbed him by the arm, and dragged him toward the blown-out hole in the wall. With a wave of her hand, the steel beams blocking the entrance disappeared back into her storage space. Outside, Nelson was on his knees, pinned down by two burly men. His arms were twisted behind his back, and his bare feet pressed against the cold floor. He was still in his white pajamas, a streak of blood running down his forehead—clearly showing that he was just beaten up. His thin frame looked fragile, like it could snap any second. They're bullying Nelson! The thought exploded in Caroline's mind.Rage surged through her. The two men holding Nelson saw what had happened inside, lifted their guns, and pressed them hard against Nelson's head. "Ms. Sinclair!" one of them shouted. "Let Mr. Crow go, or your friend dies—right now!"
