Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 368 Walking Blood Bag

Tyler rushed forward and caught Caroline before she could fall. Caroline froze. She was tired, sure, but not so weak she'd passed out. She hadn't expected Tyler to react that fast. "Thanks," she said quickly. "I'm fine." Tyler nodded and let go. Caroline could still feel the warmth where his arm had been around her waist. The truth was, Tyler was at his limit. The fight with Lisa had drained every ounce of his strength. His chest burned, his organs ached, and even breathing felt like it hurt. Still, he refused to collapse in front of Caroline. Downstairs, Francis was already snoring, flat on the floor without a care for his image. Several soldiers had also fallen asleep where they stood. The healing ability users moved around them, restoring energy and patching wounds. Caroline and the others decided to hold on a little longer before resting. They'd go upstairs first and have Nelson check on them. The three of them dragged themselves into the repaired elevator. By the time they reached the 65th floor, every step was pure willpower. Denton was already talking nonsense. "Tyler," he muttered, "I think my legs turned into noodles. And hey, do I still smell bad? Sniff, sniff. Honestly, I think I smell kinda good now. That's not right, is it? Something's wrong with me, huh?" Tyler pressed a hand over his mouth. "Zip it. Save your strength." When they finally entered the lab, Caroline opened her mouth to call for Nelson but froze. A shirtless man came running toward them, wearing nothing but a tablecloth around his waist. His entire body was smooth—no hair, no eyebrows—and his face glowed with excitement. "Did you see it? My serum worked!" he shouted. "Those bugs are gone! Caroline, come on, tell me I'm awesome!" For a long time, none of them said a word. Maybe they were too stunned—or maybe just too tired.Nelson quickly noticed their condition. One look and he knew they were completely drained. He wasted no time, grabbed a scalpel, and sliced open the vein on his wrist. "Come on, don't be shy!" he said cheerfully. "Drink a little! My blood works just like my serum. I guarantee it'll fix you right up!" Nelson reached out; bright red blood streamed down his arm, making Caroline's heart ache for him. He hadn't even hesitated to cut his wrist. Nelson's face stayed calm—he always looked expressionless—but there was a spark of anticipation in his eyes. He held out his bleeding wrist toward them again. Caroline, Tyler, and Denton just stared at him. At that moment, everyone felt the same thing—shock, followed by deep emotion. Long ago, there were stories of saints who fed tigers with their flesh and eagles with their blood. And now, there was Nelson, healing the entire team with his blood. Denton had been covering his mouth because Tyler told him not to speak. But now, he couldn't hold it in anymore. He moved his hand away, eyes brimming with tears. "Tyler," Denton said, voice trembling, "I like him!" Tyler gave a small nod. "Yeah," he said quietly. "He's something else." Caroline didn't want Nelson's blood to go to waste. She quickly used her water ability to turn the spilled blood into vapor. The red mist swirled around the three of them before sinking into their skin. Instantly, they all felt a wave of heat rush through their bodies. The burning pain faded, replaced by renewed strength. It was as if their wounds were healing from the inside out. Caroline instantly grabbed a bottle of spring water and shoved it into Nelson's hands. Then she pulled out a roll of bandage and reached for his wrist to wrap the wound. But when she looked down, she froze. The cut was gone. Nelson was completely healed. Nelson lifted his hand calmly and turned it under the light. The skin was smooth and unscarred. He wore a wild, frantic look in his eyes. "Do you know," he said, voice shaking with excitement, "how much I love this body? This is exactly what I've dreamed of!" There was no doubt; he was happy with his new ability. Once everyone had their strength back, they decided to eat. It had been a long, brutal day, and none of them had eaten much. Caroline and Tyler pulled out food from their storage space, things that restored energy and blood. Nelson didn't care what he got. He just ate whatever food was in front of him, and he did so quickly. Watching him shovel food into his mouth, Tyler and Caroline exchanged a look. Nelson might look older, but deep down, he seemed more like Denton—simple, focused, and pure. His whole life revolved around science. Everything else barely registered. By the end of the meal, Denton and Nelson were already chatting like old friends. Denton even started explaining how his ability worked in detail. Nelson listened with fascination, especially when Denton talked about how he could emit foul scents.
