Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Denton quietly moved to the corner, crouched down, and pouted. He sighed. "Guess I'm the only one who ended up hurt." Denton was about to lose his mind with jealousy. Who could possibly have a more insane ability than Caroline? She could copy other people's abilities! Even though she could only use each copied ability five times, she could touch the person again and copy it once more! "Caroline, hey, Caroline!" Denton ran up to her and grabbed her sleeve. His eyes were full of desperate hope. "If you knock me out again or maybe make me get another fever—do you think I could, you know, change my ability?" Caroline sighed and patted him on the shoulder. "Go to bed, Denton. You can have whatever you want in your dreams." Denton looked heartbroken. By now, everyone had made it to Tyler's house. Nelson was still unconscious, weak from blood loss. There had been a small accident earlier. When Handsy saw Nelson faint, he rushed over and tried to wrap him up protectively with his leaves to keep them safe. But the branch he used happened to be the one that had been sawed halfway through earlier. Caroline had dripped some spring water on the wound to stop that crack from getting worse, but Handsy hadn't healed completely. So when Handsy tried to roll Nelson up, he just flipped over and fell onto the floor. Caroline was chatting with Tyler and Denton at the time. She wasn't paying attention and nearly had a heart attack when she saw Nelson almost fall on the ground. She quickly bent down to help him up. Then, something incredible happened. When Nelson hit the floor, some of his blood splashed out. A few drops landed on Handsy's body. And right before Caroline's eyes, the spots where the blood had fallen began to sprout—fresh, green leaves bursting out of the bark like tiny explosions of life. It didn't grow slowly. It popped out, bright and alive, as if it had been waiting for that moment all along. Caroline stared in surprise and reached out, poking the tiny new leaves twice. Soft and fresh. Real. They were actually growing out of Handsy's broken branch. Then it hit her—the words "strongest healing ability." She still didn't know how Nelson's power worked, but when she looked at the blood running down his body and then at Handsy's branch, cut almost in half ... Caroline remembered the new leaves that had just sprouted; she got an idea. Caroline decided not to waste the blood. She pulled off Nelson's blood-stained shirt. "Whoa, Caroline! What are you doing? Why are you stripping a guy?!" Denton shouted, his voice full of shock and way too much excitement. His yelling brought Tyler running over. Nelson looked thin, but carrying his unconscious body was like moving a log. Caroline tugged and pulled, but the shirt just wouldn't come off. "What's going on?" Tyler asked, stepping in to help her lift Nelson. He could tell she wasn't doing this for fun. "I want to test something," Caroline said seriously. Together, they got Nelson's shirt off. She didn't want him catching a cold, so she grabbed one of Tyler's shirts from her storage space and slipped it on Nelson. It was a little big, but it would do. Then Caroline took the bloody shirt and tied the stained part around Handsy's broken branch. About ten seconds later, she noticed something unbelievable. The branch started to swell, forming a lump that kept growing bigger. When she untied the shirt, she froze in awe. The once-severed branch was completely healed. Not even a mark remained. And right before their eyes, a brand-new branch sprouted from the spot! The lump she'd seen forming under the fabric had been that new growth."That's amazing," Caroline breathed. So this is Nelson's power? He could practically bring the dead back to life! Handsy tilted his body, confused by the new branch. Then, like a grumpy kid, he used another branch to snap the new one clean off. That branch was blocking his movement. Plants with no sense of pain can do whatever they feel like. What Caroline didn't know was that Nelson's healing ability wasn't just in his blood. Basically, any fluid his body produced had powerful healing ability. It existed in every drop of his body fluids—his tears, sweat, saliva, and even his snot. Yes, every single bit of him could heal. On a battlefield, just one of his tears could save a life. But he also had one major flaw. This guy had zero combat ability.
