Chapter 353 Ugliness Is a Weapon

Caroline glanced at the list and smiled. "Yeah, that one." She tapped the icon. In an instant, her face changed. The young, beautiful woman vanished, replaced by an old, wrinkled, hideous face. But the ugliness was mesmerizing. It was the kind of ugly that pulled your eyes in and froze you in shock. If you stared at her, your mind would go blank for three full seconds. Mutated Fire Ability: Ugliness Is a Weapon Description: Never underestimate ugly things. They may not look powerful, but they can be deadly. The strength of the stun effect is unknown. But the embarrassment it causes? Off the charts. Right now, Andy stood completely frozen. Three seconds was long enough for Caroline to kill him. She didn't even bother using another ability. Caroline walked straight up and sliced his throat. When Andy fell, his wide eyes were still full of fear, confusion, and disbelief. The last thing he saw was that horrifying, unforgettable face. The final thought in his mind was—If I had another chance, I'd never let a woman like that be my wife. Caroline shook her sleeve to fling off the blood and took a few deep breaths. Using an ability still made her feel dizzy and drained. But these people, she couldn't let them live. They had just awakened their abilities and were already losing control. If people like them got to live, they'd cause chaos later. It wasn't cruelty—it was necessary. When they tortured Handsy earlier, Caroline had seen it clearly. When you give a weak person ability, they'll use it to feed their arrogance. The ones who never had strength before are often the quickest to abuse it once they do.She walked to Nelson, crouched beside him, and helped him up. "Nelson. Hey, are you okay?" She reached out, placing her hand on Nelson's neck, wiping away the blood. Sure enough, the wound had completely healed. Caroline let out a long breath. Nelson had been reckless. If he hadn't had a healing ability, that stab could've killed him. Nelson slowly opened his eyes. Caroline let out a sigh of relief when Nelson finally opened his eyes. But the moment he looked at her, he froze. Three seconds passed. Still frozen. He was so shocked by Caroline's hideous face that he literally forgot to breathe. Caroline slapped her forehead. Oh, right! This ability lasted for one minute! "Nelson! Breathe please!" she said, patting his cheek. But Nelson didn't move an inch. Just then, Handsy dragged himself across the floor, struggling to lift one of his leafy hands. He reached out and gave Nelson a powerful slap on the forehead. Smack! "Oh my God! You're so ugly!!!" Nelson screamed, snapping out of it, then immediately fainted from the horror. Caroline had no words. She didn't realize for a scientist who'd always chased perfection, her ugliness hurt him more deeply than death would. But before she could recover from the awkwardness, Tyler and Denton appeared at the doorway. They hadn't heard the fight. Caroline's apartment soundproofing worked a little too well. When she didn't come back upstairs, they came to check on her. The moment they entered, they froze in horror. A monster was holding Nelson. And Nelson had passed out from horror. Even worse—they couldn't move. That monster had paralyzed them both.Even Tyler felt a wave of fear he'd never known before. What kind of monster could possibly freeze him in place like that? Then, right before their eyes, the monster's face slowly shifted back into Caroline's. The minute was up. The ability had ended. Denton instantly activated his ability. He leaped high and landed on the wall. His whole body reeking as he pointed at Caroline and shouted, "What kind of monster are you, daring to take Caroline’s form!" Caroline had no words. This day was really too much! When Denton finally realized Caroline had only been using her ability, his expression changed. He looked at her with deep pity. "Caroline," he said seriously, "I thought my ability was already the most embarrassing one out there—no, the grossest—no, the most revolting one out there. But yours, wow." At that moment, the look in Denton's eyes was filled with sympathy, the kind that only comes from sharing the same kind of suffering. So she patiently explained that her ability allowed her to copy other people's powers. And just like that, Denton went completely silent.
