Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Building B's crew had clearly been expecting Tyler and his team, leaving things out in plain sight on purpose. Caroline nodded, then recapped what happened earlier when she met Obsidian Fang downstairs. Once she finished, everyone exchanged knowing smiles. They all had the same thought—Building B was trying way too hard to hide stuff. They were spreading rumors about mutant humans just to cover up Crow's real ability. But that wasn't the whole story. "And they've always wanted a link with the army. If the army starts thinking Obsidian Fang can predict the future, they'll follow his guidance more and more. And ... " That meant eventually the army could end up doing whatever Obsidian Fang wanted. It was a genius plan—only that sly old man could pull something like that off. About that gold coin? Tyler later discovered everyone in Building B used those coins like their own money. They even had a full internal recycling system using them. The photos were interesting too. One had a bunch of names scribbled on it, including Francis, Tyler, Denton, and Caroline. But her name was shoved in the corner with a big question mark next to it. Among those names, Caroline recognized several powerful ability users she'd known in her previous life. The one right in the center, Nelson Valdez, stood out. He was a top-tier healer and had been a legendary herbalist even before getting his abilities. When the great heat hit, every group wanted him on their side. Caroline's eyelid twitched. Crow was definitely someone who'd been reborn. The question mark next to her name? That had to mean he'd never heard of her in his previous life. As for the vial of blue liquid, Tyler handed it to Caroline and told her to take it to the lab for testing. The moment she touched it, her storage space started shaking like crazy. That liquid could actually upgrade it.That was basically all the useful intel they got from snooping around Building B. Still, they couldn't help but be impressed by the place. It was like its own mini-society—stocked with supplies, super organized, and even had a department just for scouting talent. "Obsidian Fang's ambition is insane," Caroline summed it up. Having such a strong group right across from them was a huge risk. But as Tyler noted, Crow's bedroom was locked down tight, so sneaking in or attempting an assassination was impossible. So far, Obsidian Fang hadn't made any aggressive moves. While they were busy planning, Caroline noticed Jet standing nearby, looking proud and smug. He even winked at her, as if saying, "Hey, Human, look at me! This is my time to shine!" Denton noticed Jet immediately. Caroline mentioned Jet had leveled up, and Denton was so jealous. He couldn't stop talking about how cool and good-looking Jet was. Caroline noticed Silver acting jealous. The bird actually started pecking at Denton's head! She watched as Silver even pulled out one of his hairs. It was like Silver was saying, "You think that flashy, peacock-looking guy is handsome? Nope, not happening!" After that, Caroline and Tyler went back to their planning and didn't pay much attention to what Jet was doing. But she soon realized Jet had managed to calm Silver down. Now Silver was standing next to him, tilting its head and looking up with curiosity. Who knew what those two were chatting about? Caroline quietly cheered for Jet in her heart, hoping he'd win Silver over. "I think we should start stocking up on supplies over the next few days," she said suddenly. She grabbed a few photos from the pile and spread them out in front of the group. "Things are about to change." The photos showed Building B cranking out all kinds of gear—equipment for floods, heat, and more.Caroline realized the deep freeze was almost over. When the ice melted, floods would hit, and some coastal areas might even face tsunamis. After that, the temperature would keep rising, and all the water would gradually vanish. Nobody knew where it went. In theory, it should've gone back into the atmosphere and rained down again, but that didn't happen.
