Stronger Every Time I Die
"Being engaged to the top school beauty—wasn’t that the only valuable thing he had left? Yet he’s acting like he’s the one who wanted to get rid of it all along!" Zac seethed with frustration. His gaze flickered toward the counter, where the unpaid clothes still sat. An idea popped into his mind. He deliberately raised his voice. "Arthur, you picked out so many clothes here. These aren’t cheap. Are you expecting this girl to pay for you?" In his words, all eyes in the store turned toward Arthur and Ashley. "No way. He’s still the Gray family’s biological son. He wouldn’t be so broke he can’t even afford clothes, right?" "You don’t know? He has to work part-time just to survive. They say he can barely afford food, let alone fancy clothes." "Yeah, and do you have any idea how expensive these are? And he picked out so many!" "Doesn’t have money but still chooses luxury clothes—what, did he land himself a sugar mama?" "That girl looks young too. She’s probably a high schooler. What kind of rich young lady would waste her money on a kept man?" "Probably some spoiled noble girl who just likes playing around with little pretty boys." The murmurs swirled through the store. Martin looked at Arthur in shock. Even though he had just dissolved his daughter’s engagement, Arthur had still been their prospective son-in-law until moments ago. And now he was… living off a woman? Martin had originally thought Tia was the one who wronged Arthur, but now he wasn’t so sure. Maybe Arthur wasn’t any better himself. Martin hesitated before pulling out his wallet. He retrieved a card and handed it to Arthur. "Arthur, here’s seven thousand dollars. Take it. A man shouldn’t be spending a woman’s money." Before Arthur could refuse, Zac jumped in, his voice dripping with false concern. "Arthur, just take it. Seven thousand might not be much, but it’s enough to cover these clothes." Then, with a sigh full of fake sympathy, he added, "Arthur, you’re the Gray family’s son. If you’re broke, just tell me. I can give you some pocket money. You don’t have to rely on some woman. If Dad and Mom find out, they’ll be furious."His voice was so full of hypocrisy that Ashley snapped. "Quit acting like some saintly martyr. If you were really that generous, why didn’t you ever give Arthur a single cent before? But now, all of a sudden, you’re putting on a show?" Ashley’s anger flared. "And who said I’m his sugar mama?! I’m his girlfriend, okay? We’re in a normal relationship. Only someone as dirty-minded as you would twist it into something so disgusting!" The entire store fell silent. Especially Arthur. He stared at Ashley in surprise. Since when were they a couple? But seeing how fierce she looked, her eyes burning with defiance, Arthur had no intention of correcting her. Besides, he found her fiery temper quite cute—like a little cat puffing up in anger. Ashley’s words shut the crowd up fast. After all, if only perverts thought that way, then… weren’t they perverts too? Martin awkwardly held out his bank card, caught in the middle. Did that mean he was dirty-minded too? He’d literally just offered Arthur money to avoid being "kept." Before he could fully process his embarrassment, Ashley turned her sharp gaze on him next. She shoved Martin’s card back at him. "And you, Martin, instead of worrying about Arthur, maybe go home and teach your daughter some basic morals. She was getting cozy with another guy while still engaged—how about you handle that first? As for my Arthur, he doesn’t need your charity." Her words made every Fraser family member go pale. Mrs. Fraser was the first to explode. She jabbed a finger at Arthur and screeched, "Basic morals?! What about Arthur? He had a fiancée and still went around with you! Who’s really lacking morals here?!" Tia bit her lip and tried to put on a fragile, understanding look. "Ashley, I know you’re just saying that out of anger. You and Arthur barely know each other. You don’t have to ruin your reputation for him." Ashley scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Oh, that’s rich. Ruin my reputation? Wasn’t it you guys who started running your mouths first, calling me his sugar mama without knowing a damn thing? If anyone’s trying to ruin my reputation, it’s you. You and Zac are made for each other—shameless, manipulative, and fake. That innocent act? You’ve both perfected it. And for the record, no, I wasn’t Arthur’s girlfriend before. Because unlike you, he actually has morals—he had a fiancée, and he respected that."
