Chapter 79 The Engagement Is Over

Just moments ago, Ashley had shared the same thoughts as the rest of the onlookers. Arthur had never been favored in his family—he had never experienced the privileges that came with being a true member of the Gray family. Being the campus queen's fiancé was, at the very least, a respectable title. She had assumed he would be reluctant to give it up. After all, Zac and Tia had been together for some time now, yet Arthur had never openly protested or demanded to break the engagement. She had thought he would hold onto it. But now, in front of a crowd, he had agreed so effortlessly. Ashley, still reeling from shock, suddenly felt a surge of joy. She didn’t know why, but hearing him willingly break off the engagement with Tia filled her with a deep, undeniable satisfaction. She was… happy. Truly happy. Meanwhile, Zac and Tia stood frozen. They couldn’t understand—why had Arthur let go of the engagement so easily? They hadn’t even said half of the things they had planned to humiliate him with. Arthur quickly finished writing the Engagement Cancellation Letter, signing his name at the bottom before pressing his fingerprint onto the paper. Then, without hesitation, he handed it to Tia along with a pen. "Ms. Tia, sign it. From this day forward, we are free to marry whoever we choose. We have nothing to do with each other." The moment those words left his mouth, the entire store erupted in a frenzy. He had actually written an Engagement Cancellation Letter on the spot! The Fraser family’s reputation would surely take a hit from this. Martin’s expression darkened slightly, but he remained silent. In the end, it was the Fraser family who had wronged Arthur first.Arthur, on the other hand, wasn’t concerned with any of that. He only wanted to settle this matter once and for all. Tia stared at the letter in front of her, her face drained of color. She had been… dumped. She had been the one to bring up breaking the engagement first, but it had only been to humiliate Arthur. She had wanted to save face in front of everyone. Never had she imagined that Arthur would agree so readily—so eagerly—that he would even put it in writing on the spot! He was truly willing to throw away the title of "the campus queen’s fiancé!" Everyone knew Arthur wasn’t favored in the Gray family. She was South High’s most sought-after beauty. Having her as a fiancée had always been his only claim to prestige. And yet, he had just discarded it without a second thought. Worse—since he had written the letter, it meant he was the one rejecting her! That changed everything. Mrs. Fraser’s expression soured instantly. "Arthur, when your family needed us, we stood by you. If it weren’t for the Fraser family, do you think the Gray family would have reached where they are today? And now, you humiliate my daughter in public?" Arthur remained composed, his voice firm but even. "Mrs. Fraser, I have no intention of humiliating Tia. However, she has been publicly acting as another man’s girlfriend while still engaged to me. Since the matter is already out in the open, it is only right that we settle it now and give Tia the freedom she wants." His tone was measured—neither aggressive nor submissive. But he refused to let anyone trample over him. Mrs. Fraser faltered, unable to come up with a response. Martin, feeling a growing sense of shame, quickly pulled at his wife’s sleeve."Enough," he muttered. He took the Engagement Cancellation Letter from Arthur and handed it to Tia. "Sign it. You were the one who wronged Arthur in the first place." Tia’s face turned ashen. Desperate, she looked to Zac for help. She couldn’t sign it. This was about her reputation—her future. If she signed, it would mean she had been rejected by Arthur. Zac, too, was momentarily stunned, but he quickly convinced himself—this must be Arthur’s trick. Arthur was using reverse psychology. He was counting on the fact that Tia would refuse to sign because of her pride. He had intentionally written the Engagement Cancellation Letter in public, forcing her into a position where she would refuse the breakup herself! The murmurs among the crowd grew louder as they stared at the bold words at the top of the paper. Engagement Cancellation Letter. The words were too striking—too humiliating. "He’s really letting her go? Just like that?" "And doing it in writing? That’s ruthless." "Tch, this is obvious. He’s just trying to manipulate the situation—acting like he wants to break up, so she’ll refuse out of pride." "Yeah, classic strategy. He knows she won’t sign and will end up staying engaged to him instead." "The Fraser family isn’t some top-tier aristocracy. If they get dumped publicly, their reputation will take a huge hit." More and more people gathered, their whispers growing louder. It was a weekend, after all—everyone had time to watch the drama unfold. The noise pressed in from all sides.Tia’s face turned even paler. She looked at Zac, on the verge of tears. She had always planned to be the one to break off the engagement—but never like this. Not publicly. Not in a way that made her seem like the one being cast aside. How could she live with the embarrassment? Arthur was rejecting her. And what if Zac started to think less of her because of it? If she lost Zac’s favor, her chances of marrying into another powerful family would plummet. She couldn’t afford to let this happen.
