Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 669 The Illusion Shatters

The voice recording began to play, and the moment they heard it, they recognized Zane’s voice. His tone was terrifyingly cold. “I’ve already ordered the hotel manager to throw Raelynn and her daughters out. I want you to humiliate them thoroughly at the hotel entrance.” “Once they’re gone, follow them. Find a quiet place, rob them, beat them, and then send the location to Mr. Stephen.” There wasn’t much audio, but Zane’s instructions were detailed and unmistakable. Raelynn and Susie stared blankly, frozen in place as they listened. Even after Stanley put away the phone, the two of them stood motionless, still unable to react. After a long silence, Raelynn began shaking her head. “No. No, that’s not possible.” Susie glared at Arthur, her voice venomous. “That has to be fake. You clearly edited that audio. That’s not Mr. Stephen’s voice!” Arthur looked at them coldly. “The alley where you were robbed wasn’t even a good route to take. Tell me, why would Stephen—someone with a perfectly good road in front of him—just happen to drive down that sketchy side street, at just the right time, and just happen to rescue you?” Susie clearly didn’t believe a word of it. “Stop trying to stir up trouble! We’re not that stupid!” “If that robbery was staged by him, then why would he go out of his way to get me one of the top specialists when I had a ruptured corpus luteum? He worked so hard to get me treated!” She was absolutely certain, completely dismissing everything Arthur had said. Raelynn was the same. Stanley gave them both a puzzled look. “You’re saying the Yanbrough family found you that doctor?” Susie lifted her chin proudly. “Who else? You?” Stanley pulled up his phone and tapped on his chat history. He held it out for her to see. “You mean this guy?” Susie turned her head reluctantly. But the moment she saw the profile photo, her eyes widened. She knew that face well. Back then, to make follow-up treatment easier, she had added his private contact. He had been kind to her, professional, and she had truly appreciated him. Susie stared at Arthur and Stanley, completely stunned. “It was… you?” Stanley slowly took the phone back. “When Mr. Arthur found out you were seriously injured and might lose your ability to conceive, he felt pity for you. He hired the best OB-GYN specialist in the field to treat you.” “Mr. Arthur did all of that quietly. And in return, you—” He trailed off with a sigh. This was the first time he had ever seen people try to kill their own son. Their own brother. Arthur didn’t stop Stanley. He looked at the two women with icy disdain and added, “You wonder why Julie and Rosie couldn’t find work in Seacity?” Raelynn and Susie snapped their heads up. “You—how do you know about that?!” Arthur ignored the question and continued calmly. “Zane made his move the moment he pretended to take you in.” “Any business or company in Seacity that dared to hire you would suddenly shut down—some went bankrupt, some simply vanished overnight.” “With pressure like that, did you really think you’d find jobs anywhere in Seacity?” The two of them began to shake their heads. Their bodies wavered, and they looked like they were about to collapse. “No… no, that’s not possible. He wouldn’t…” Suddenly, as if remembering something, Raelynn snapped, “If you’re saying he was scheming all along, then tell me—why? Why would he do that?!” “Why?” Arthur repeated. “Because he wanted to use you. Use you to control me. To threaten me.” “But it’s a shame. His plan failed.” “When he realized you were useless against me—and I’d already left Seacity for Governance University—I’m guessing his attitude toward you didn’t stay so warm, did it?” Arthur spoke slowly, each word hammering deeper into their delusions. “And then, when Zane realized Zac had ties to the Tremo family, he suddenly remembered your existence again. He saw Zac’s guilt and figured he could use that to get close to Solivair. That’s the only reason he started treating you better again, isn’t it?” Arthur’s voice was calm, as if he were simply stating facts. But each sentence crushed the illusion they’d clung to. Raelynn and Susie were visibly shaken. Ever since the recording had been played, they had started to waver. But now, with every word Arthur spoke, their resolve crumbled. He knew everything. Everything they had gone through—he had known it all along. Their faces grew paler and paler. Then Arthur delivered the final blow. “You hate Zac for ruining your family, don’t you?” He turned to Renee with a twisted smile. Her face twisted with fear. Arthur’s tone was low and cruel. “Did you know… that the Zac you despise, and the Zane you worship—are father and son?”
