Stronger Every Time I Die
Ryder had seen an aircraft carrier before, but he had never been on one. He never imagined that one day, he would be standing on one—and the carrier’s destination would be to rescue his daughter. God. This was something even sci-fi movies wouldn’t dare to depict. It was something he wouldn’t even dare to dream of. When Arthur walked over to Ryder with his phone and turned the screen toward him, Hugo and the others on Hugo’s side saw everything clearly. That—that really was an aircraft carrier! That massive hull stretching so far you couldn’t see the end of it, the weapons mounted on the deck, the carrier-based jets circling in the sky, the orderly fleet trailing behind the carrier— God! How—how had they suddenly, in the blink of an eye, ended up piloting an aircraft carrier? And judging by their formation, just a rough glance at the quality of those weapons made it obvious—they were planning to directly sink Tamaria! God! What the hell were they doing?! What kind of global-scale event were they wrapped up in?! Under normal circumstances, deploying weapons of this level only happened after long, tense standoffs, when things were already at a boiling point. Because declaring war—those two words carried immense weight. It was a decision that could only be made after intense negotiations between military leaders and national heads of state. This—this was supposed to be a last-resort method of defending one’s nation. So how had it become as casual as eating dinner for Arthur? Arthur hadn’t even told them beforehand. It was Ryder—stunned and overwhelmed—who broke the news to Hugo?He just silently took a massive army and set sail on an aircraft carrier to Tamaria? No reports? No formal applications or approvals? No discussions or consultations? He just went? Even Hugo—a high-ranking official in Evergrand City—had no idea, and yet they were already en route? God! Hugo, Mateo, Spencer, Nancy, and Ryder on the other side of the screen all stood frozen, unable to move for a long moment. They even forgot how to breathe. If their hearts didn’t beat on their own, they probably would’ve stopped altogether. This sudden revelation was so far beyond anything they could comprehend. No one knew how long it had been. Just when Arthur thought the signal had lagged and was about to hang up, Hugo and the others finally moved. Hugo scrambled in a flurry, and the four of them leapt out of bed together, patting their own heads as if trying to check whether their brains were still in place. They couldn’t think anymore. Just moments ago, they’d been discussing how to protect a newly-of-age kid. And now suddenly, they were launching a carrier and preparing for a head-on confrontation with Tamaria?! They might be about to trigger a full-blown war between nations! And they weren’t going in light—they were armed to the teeth, ready to sink Tamaria outright! God! A large-scale national war was on the verge of erupting. Based on their travel time, they’d reach Tamaria’s waters in less than two days! God! Hugo’s hands trembled so much he couldn’t hold the phone steady. Without even thinking, he forced himself to stop shaking and quickly ended the call with Arthur. Then he dialed his superior. There was no time to go through the usual channels. A war between nations was about to break out—how could he waste time on protocol? He didn’t know where Arthur got the aircraft carrier. He didn’t know how Arthur could possess such a massive fleet and legitimate military force. He didn’t know anything. But! That carrier and the fleet had clearly departed from Lioran territory! Hugo wasn’t sure whether Lioran’s top brass even knew about it. Right now, he had to urgently explain to the higher-ups—Arthur had no ill intent toward Lioran! None at all!!! Arthur was Lioran-born! His patriotism had never been in question!!! The call connected. Hugo’s voice trembled. “C-Chief Secretary...” He was shaking so badly he didn’t even know how to start. Arthur was his student. Arthur was a person. A civilian. How could a civilian possibly own an aircraft carrier? Even national governments only had a few! And Arthur—he was just one man. A private citizen! Hugo was convinced he had gone insane. While dialing, he genuinely started to wonder if he was having a mental breakdown. But before Hugo could speak, the voice on the other end of the line cut him off. “You’re talking about Heaven’s Cult sending a carrier to Tamaria, right?”
