Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 554 A Dangerous Bargain

Was his brain full of holes? Arthur stood there like he couldn’t care less, completely unfazed, the picture of shameless calm. “You don’t have to agree,” he said coolly. “But I promise—you’ll never find Lynn in this lifetime.” The confidence in Arthur’s tone was absolute. If Solivair had the means to find her himself, would he be here begging Arthur? Arthur was a walking lesson in what it meant to have no fear—not of tigers, not of demons. The kind of person who wouldn’t flinch if a pack of lions showed up. Solivair had never seen someone this thick-skinned, this bold, this outrageously fearless! He wanted to slap Arthur into the ground. But then he remembered Lynn. He’d spent so long looking for her. If he had any other way—anything at all—he wouldn’t be putting up with this. Solivair exhaled, once, twice, three times, trying to keep his temper from boiling over. He squeezed his fists so hard it felt like he might break his own bones, all just to keep from lashing out. Right now, if even a stray dog crossed his path, he’d probably kick it. After one more deep breath, Solivair growled through gritted teeth, “Fine. I’ll do it.” Arthur gave him a look that said, See? That wasn’t so hard. The sight made Solivair’s blood pressure spike again. He realized something very important—he couldn’t spend too much time near Arthur. It would shorten his lifespan. Waving his hand impatiently, he barked to his guards, “Send them back. I’ll make the arrangements.” Arthur grinned—wide, smug, infuriating. Under the escort of the bodyguards, the three of them exited the building. But just as they stepped outside, Arthur locked eyes with someone. No—eight eyes met at once. It was Hugo. And behind him… Finley, groggy and confused, being dragged along. Hugo didn’t even spare a glance at the line of police behind him. He had one hand clamped tightly around Finley’s throat and shouted furiously at the bodyguards behind Arthur. “Let them go! Or I’ll snap his neck!” The bodyguards stared blankly. We’re already letting them go. Maybe it was the noise from the convoy outside, or maybe it was Hugo’s shouting, but Solivair came out. At the same time, Finley began to stir. His body, on the brink of unconsciousness, refused to let him pass out completely. With great effort, his eyes fluttered open. The first thing he saw wasn’t who was choking him—it was Solivair, stepping out of the abandoned building, face dark and thunderous. Panic surged through Finley. His throat clamped tight, he rasped out a strangled scream, “Dad! Save me~” Maybe it was the pressure on his throat. Maybe the lingering effects of the sedative. But his voice—had a strange… flirtatious twist? The moment the words left his lips, Hugo’s grip faltered from shock. He nearly dropped Finley on the spot. Solivair’s face darkened even more. He looked at the son Hugo was throttling with unmasked disgust—like he’d rather crush him than save him. Already in a foul mood, the sight of Finley only made it worse. Hugo spotted Solivair and immediately shouted again, voice sharp with fury, “Solivair! Let Arthur and the others go! Or I swear, I’ll snap your son’s neck!” To prove his point, Hugo tightened his grip. The police behind him exchanged glances. Seriously? Couldn’t he have waited until they weren’t watching?Solivair had kidnapped Arthur and the others—and now Hugo had taken Finley hostage? The senior officers exchanged looks. Eventually, they all silently decided… Let’s pretend we didn’t see that. This was strategy. A tactical decision. Mr. Hugo had acted out of necessity, in a moment of crisis. But curiously, despite the situation, Solivair didn’t seem to care. His bodyguards weren’t resisting. They just stood silently behind him. And Solivair, the father of the hostage? He didn’t even look anxious. When Hugo shouted his threat, Solivair couldn’t even be bothered to glance at Finley.
