Chapter 514 A Trap of Their Own Making

As Arthur walked towards Henry, his voice was cold and direct. "When Finley was the Student Council President, how come he never 'took care' of me? Instead, he used underhanded methods to frame me for theft. As a result, he lost his position as president." Henry's face turned ashen. This was a disgrace to them, an incident Finley would never want to be mentioned again. But now, Arthur had just laid it bare in front of everyone. Henry glared at Arthur with a gaze filled with hatred, much like the one Finley had shot him earlier, as if he could devour Arthur whole. Upon hearing Arthur's words, the group of students in the room lowered their heads in unison, embarrassed. Indeed, just because Arthur was the president, did that mean he had to lend them money? It was absurd, and Henry had made sure to tell them so before they came here. Most of the people in this room had come just to try their luck. What if Arthur really lent them the money? They were from poor families, and who would not want extra money to make their college lives easier? If they could borrow money from Arthur, they could delay paying it back, and he likely would not make a fuss, right? If they were lucky enough to get a direct handout, that would be even better. They all hoped to take advantage of the situation. But whether they could take advantage was not up to them. After a long, uncomfortable pause, Henry spoke again, "Fin…Finley…" He quickly added on, "Finley has funded many impoverished students before. You're not short on money, and since you're the Student Council President, appointed by the principal himself, you must have a kind heart. Surely you can lend us a little to help us get by." His voice trailed off as he finished speaking. Arthur's face had turned icy. He sneered coldly. A group of people was trying to emotionally blackmail him? They had clearly picked the wrong person. Without a word, he slowly picked up his phone and dialed the police. As the phone rang, the group watched in confusion, wondering what Arthur was doing. After two beeps, the call connected. Arthur glanced at the group and said into the phone, "Hello, this is the Student Council President at Governance University. I am being surrounded and extorted for money by a group of students. Please come here quick." The room exploded in an instant. Henry rushed forward to snatch the phone from Arthur's hand. "What's this! Arthur! When did we extort you for money?" The group panicked, their voices rising in chaos. "Arthur, how could we extort you? We only wanted to borrow money! We just wanted to borrow it!" Seeing their hands reaching for him, Arthur smoothly dodged and continued speaking into the phone. "There's a large group of people who've barged into my office and are demanding money from me." He spoke the truth, without a single lie. Hearing this, the group froze in shock. A large group is surrounding him in his office demanding money? Wasn't that extortion?! But they had not meant it like that! They were just hoping to try their luck, not intending to do anything illegal. They had not expected Arthur to pick up the phone and dial the police without warning. Now, the group was in complete panic. They were students at a prestigious university! If the police thought they were extorting money from a fellow student, what would happen to them? A group of students who had been so arrogant just moments ago now found their legs weak with fear. They almost wanted to kneel before Arthur. "Arthur… We didn't mean to extort anyone! We just... we just wanted to ask if you could lend us some money! We didn't mean anything wrong!" "Yes, yes, we didn't mean to extort you! We just wanted to..." "Arthur… We didn't intend to do anything bad; we just... we were just curious; we didn't mean..." A jumble of voices filled the air, but no one could form a complete sentence. They had surrounded Arthur in his office to ask for money; wasn't that exactly what a thug would do to rob someone? Henry, watching the pale faces of the students, was caught between anger and fear. He wanted to scold them for their cowardice, but he too was terrified.
