Stronger Every Time I Die
Ashley couldn't help feeling a wave of fear wash over her. She had indeed acted too impulsively. Not to mention the other dangers, if there were wolves outside and she had carelessly run into them, they could have all been in serious trouble! Arthur led the way with a pair of binoculars, carefully surveying the area outside. The team leader quickly came forward, "Mr. Gray, let me go out and check." Arthur nodded, not objecting, as he had already observed the area and noted nothing suspicious. The team leader was skilled and professional, especially in reconnaissance. After confirming that the area was safe, he returned with a big smile. "Mr. Gray! It's safe outside!" Hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. "That's great! We finally don't have to stay in this cave anymore!" The group couldn't help but express their relief. A smile spread across Arthur's face, "Let's go out and take a look!" As they passed through the narrow cave exit, they were greeted by a breathtaking view. They had unexpectedly emerged on the other side of the mountain! They were surrounded by canyons, and in front of them lay a stretch of flat land. Most importantly, to their right, there stood a small wooden house! Arthur rubbed his eyes in disbelief, thinking he might be seeing things. The others had noticed the small house too and exclaimed in surprise. "How strange! How could there be such a small house deep in the forest!" "Could this have been where Mr. Gray's grandfather lived?" "But this is deep in the mountains, why would an old man live here?" "Who else would build a small house here? It looks quite old." Trapped in the cave for so long, the sudden arrival in an open and safe space made everyone more talkative. Arthur stared at the cabin, muttering excitedly, "Yes, that's my grandfather’s!" Seeing the cabin brought a sense of familiarity to Arthur. He remembered his grandfather, Benjamin, who had a fondness for wooden houses. Benjamin had even made him a detailed wooden house model as a child, which was later lost by Zac. The craftsmanship of this house, the furniture arranged at the entrance—it was exactly like the model Benjamin had made for him. Benjamin used to say his grandmother liked to arrange furniture that way. It had been ten years since Arthur last saw Benjamin. In the Gray family, the only person Arthur truly missed was Benjamin. Ashley noticed Arthur's excitement and took his hand, puzzled. "Arthur?" Feeling Ashley's touch, Arthur gripped her hand tightly. "Ashley, my grandfather built that house! That’s his work!" With that, Arthur hurried forward, his steps almost staggering in his excitement. Ashley quickly followed, and the rest of the group did too, staying close to assist if needed. As they approached the cabin, one person lagged behind. He surreptitiously took out his phone, snapped a photo of the house, then pocketed the device and hurried to catch up with the others. Arthur rushed into the cabin, familiar with its layout. "Grandpa?" he called out anxiously. But the yard was overgrown with weeds. Understanding Arthur's intent, the bodyguards quickly spread out to search. After a thorough check, they came back to report dejectedly. "There’s no one inside." Arthur had already entered the cabin, now standing in what used to be the living room. Even though the cabin was suspended, weeds had started to grow through the gaps in the wood. The sight of this deserted place filled Arthur with a profound sadness. While it was clear that Benjamin had lived here, the overgrown weeds and dusty furniture told Arthur that his grandfather had not been here for many years. The hope that had briefly lifted Arthur's spirits was shattered. He felt as though all his strength had been drained in an instant, and he collapsed to the ground. "Arthur!" Ashley looked on with concern. Arthur just shook his head and sighed deeply. He had always known that finding his grandfather wouldn't be easy. But the collapse of his hope still made his heart ache unbearably. "Grandpa, where are you? Are you safe?" No one could answer him. Arthur carefully examined every part of the house.
