Stronger Every Time I Die
As the doctor packed up his medical kit, he warned, "Be sure to avoid infection; she might develop a fever tonight." Tonight was destined to be a sleepless one. With no cell signal, Arthur was careful not to waste too much battery power. Without any support, they had to rely on themselves. After the doctor treated Ashley's wounds, he immediately attended to the others. Many had been injured in the skirmish with the wolves, sporting various scratches and cuts. The medical supplies they had brought might not suffice. Fortunately, they had found a water source, which was a significant help. After a long assault, the wolves at the cave entrance finally lessened their intensity. Perhaps the wolves were exhausted. The people blocking the entrance had rotated several times; thankfully, the entrance was small, or they might not have been able to hold off the wolves. Through the gaps between the large rocks, the bodyguards occasionally struck at the wolves, causing some casualties. Even though the wolves were enraged, they could do nothing but whimper outside, mourning their fallen brethren. Arthur memorized every word the doctor had said. After feeding Ashley some dry food, he stayed up all night watching over her, always keeping an eye on her condition. Ashley, utterly exhausted, had fallen asleep. Even in her sleep, she was restless. The anesthetic had worn off, and the pain furrowed her brow; Ashley was half-asleep, half-awake. Seeing her like this pained Arthur deeply. He could only gently stroke her forehead and pat her, trying his best to soothe her. She was such a foolish girl, just a fragile girl, yet she had recklessly thrown herself in front of him to take that deadly blow! Every time he thought of the wolf biting her arm, hanging from it, it nearly suffocated him with pain! Arthur couldn't help but blame himself. It was all his fault for not reacting quickly enough. If only he had been faster, Ashley wouldn't have been hurt. This injury would definitely leave a scar. Ashley always cared about her appearance. How could I accept this in the future? Watching Ashley in pain nearly bled his heart dry. The bodyguards came in one by one to report on the situation outside. Arthur nodded, "Tonight, arrange for people to take turns guarding the entrance. We must keep it secure." He paused, then added, "Check the surrounding area for any other entrances or wild animals to prevent any dangers." They had no choice but to spend the night in this cave. Human vision at night was inferior to that of wolves; if there were any other entrances to the cave, and wolves got in, it would be a significant problem. The bodyguards followed his orders. Arthur was grateful that he had brought enough bodyguards this time. At one in the morning, Ashley, sleeping fitfully, began to talk in her sleep. "Arthur, be careful! Run!" Arthur, exhausted from the day, had just dozed off when he was jolted awake by Ashley's voice. "Ashley!" Her brow was tightly furrowed, her forehead covered in cold sweat, and she mumbled incoherently. "Arthur, danger, run, run!" Ashley was still worried about him even in her dreams, which pained Arthur even more. He quickly touched her forehead. As soon as he felt it, he retracted his hand in shock. It was so hot! Arthur panicked. "Doctor! Doctor! Doctor!" he called out urgently. The doctor had been staying close to Ashley to monitor her for any fever during the night. He too had been exhausted and had just nodded off. Startled by Arthur's call, the doctor woke instantly. "Is it a fever?" Arthur nodded quickly, "Yes! A high fever!" Despite the loud conversation, Ashley remained in a half-awake, half-asleep state. The doctor sprang into action, quickly taking Ashley's temperature and efficiently preparing fever-reducing and anti-inflammatory medication. Arthur tried to wake Ashley to take the medicine. No matter how much he called her, Ashley didn't open her eyes. Reluctantly, Arthur took the medicine into his mouth and transferred it to Ashley. That was the only way to ensure she could take the medicine smoothly. After handing the medicine to Arthur, the doctor went to attend to other patients. Others also began to show signs of fever. The doctor's workload for the night would be extensive. After taking the fever-reducing medicine, Ashley's high fever finally subsided in the late hours of the night.
