Stronger Every Time I Die
The Gray family followed behind Zac, moving as one toward Arthur. This spectacle immediately drew the attention of the entire banquet hall. Zac stopped in front of Arthur, once again wearing his usual innocent smile. He asked in a seemingly naive tone, "Arthur, I just realized that a suit from my wardrobe is missing. It’s the one Dad got for me last year from Mr. Yoder as a birthday gift. I treasured it so much that I never even wore it." The moment he said this, the crowd sensed that something was off. Yesterday’s viral video had left an impression. The footage had briefly captured Arthur’s shoes—clean but clearly old and worn. If Julie hadn’t personally confirmed Arthur’s identity, no one would have believed that someone dressed so humbly could be the Gray family’s son. Now, Arthur was wearing a luxurious suit. How could someone with shoes that looked years past their prime suddenly afford something so expensive? Zac glanced at Arthur’s outfit, feigning confusion. "Arthur, the suit you’re wearing… it looks exactly like the one I lost." The room erupted. Zac’s missing suit had somehow appeared on Arthur. The implication was obvious. John, Raelynn, Rosie, and Susie exchanged shocked glances. What was going on? They had assumed Zac had given the suit to Arthur as a gift. But now… Arthur had been staying at the school dorms. He hadn’t even been home in days. So when could he have taken it? Without realizing it, they were already falling into the same trap—Zac had spoken, and they had believed him without hesitation. This was exactly why Arthur had long since stopped explaining himself to them. Zac had a way of twisting the truth to his advantage, and they always trusted him unconditionally. But this time, Julie wasn’t so easily convinced. She had no evidence, but for the first time, she felt that Arthur wouldn’t do something like this. Something wasn’t adding up. Arthur’s true identity was already known, so there was no reason for him to pull a desperate stunt just to stand out. Besides, from the moment he had arrived at the banquet, he had quietly stayed in the corner, showing no interest in competing with Zac for attention. The whispers spread rapidly through the hall. "Exactly the same? Does that mean Arthur stole Zac’s suit?" "Everyone knows Mr. Yoder’s designs are one of a kind. There’s no way there could be an identical one." "But isn’t Arthur the real son of the Gray family? Would he really do something like this?" "You don’t understand. Even though he’s their biological son, the Gray family has never acknowledged him properly." "That’s insane! He’s their real son!" "They ignored their own child to favor an adopted one?" "Then why haven’t we ever seen Arthur at past events? Did they keep him hidden?" "This whole situation is bizarre." "But stealing a suit? That says a lot about his character. Maybe that’s why the Gray family never introduced him before." "Yeah, taking someone else’s clothes? That’s just embarrassing." Arthur listened to the murmurs with amusement and turned his gaze to Zac. Meeting his eyes, he spoke clearly. "Zac, are you saying I stole this suit?" Zac and the Gray family froze.Up until now, Zac had only implied it. If he left room for doubt, he could always claim Arthur had gotten a cheap replica and avoid making this a legal issue. But theft was a different matter entirely. This suit was worth tens of thousands. If this escalated, Arthur could be formally accused of stealing and even face criminal charges. Zac quickly masked his excitement. He let out a dramatic sigh and pretended to look deeply hurt. "Arthur, I invited you to my birthday party out of kindness. How could you do this? If you didn’t have a suit, you could have asked Mom and Dad—they would have bought you one. I know you like taking my things, but this suit… I already wore it last year for my birthday. If you really wanted it, I wouldn’t have minded giving it to you." In just a few words, Zac had painted himself as the generous victim while implying Arthur had a habit of taking what wasn’t his.
