Stronger Every Time I Die
Over the past two years, Arthur had never stopped training. Now that money was no longer an issue, he had sought out multiple martial arts masters to learn from. Whenever he had free time, he practiced at home. Against someone untrained, he had no difficulty at all. But against a seasoned fighter like Devon, he wasn’t entirely sure where he stood. With the recent pressures of SATs and various obligations, it had been a long time since he last sparred with his masters. As soon as they stepped into the courtyard, Devon assumed his stance. "Please!" Arthur, who had trained extensively in Taekwondo, clasped his fists together and responded, "Please!" Devon eyes lit up at the gesture! Taekwondo, he had been wanting to experience it firsthand for ages. The fight erupted in an instant. Within mere seconds, the two were already exchanging blows. Ashley and Sebastian, and the others stood on the sidelines, watching in awe. As the fight progressed, Arthur grew increasingly astonished. Devon might have streaks of white in his beard, but every one of his strikes was ruthless, precise, and incredibly fast. Within just a hundred moves, Arthur was already beginning to feel the strain! But even more shocked were Devon and Sebastian. Arthur’s attacks were swift and efficient, targeting only vital points without any unnecessary movements. Sebatian had known Devon for years, yet he had never seen anyone last this long against him in a fight! And Arthur, he was only eighteen! His potential was unimaginable! Even more impressive was Arthur’s endurance. Devon was relentless, but even under such high intensity pressure, Arthur had held his ground for an astonishingly long time! That alone was no small feat! They traded blows, neither yielding an inch. Arthur found it difficult to keep up, yet he was thrilled. Aside from sparring with his masters, it had been ages since he had encountered such a formidable opponent! In an era of peace, how many people still practiced martial arts? Finding a fighter like Devon was a rarity. Devon too was exhilarated. Arthur was clearly struggling, but instead of backing down, he only grew more aggressive! Even more admirable was that he hadn’t held back despite Devon status as a professor. Devon liked that. He liked it a lot! Most people, upon learning he was a Skyward Academy professor, would become hesitant, afraid to truly engage him in combat. After over an hour of relentless fighting, both men were exhausted. Arthur was bruised all over, a noticeable swelling on his face. Devon fared slightly better, but he, too, bore plenty of injuries. Ashley looked on, heart aching for Arthur. But she knew, Arthur had been itching for this. If he hadn’t enjoyed it, he wouldn’t have kept fighting for so long. Both men collapsed onto the ground in a sprawled out X shape. "Hahahaha! You’re a damn good kid! I haven’t had a fight this exhilarating in years!" Devon could hardly resist the urge to take Arthur home right away! "Arthur! We clearly get along great! Why are you still hesitating? Join Fusion University! There's nothing to think about!" Seeing Devon trying to recruit Arthur again, Sebastian wouldn’t have it. He had been entrusted with an important mission from the university, there was no way he was returning empty handed! Sebastian hurriedly approached Arthur, handing him a towel to wipe off his sweat. "Arthur, just look at yourself! You met Devon only today, and you’re already this banged up! Imagine if you actually attended Fusion University!" Behind him, Ashley also held a towel, intending to pass it to Arthur. But she had been beaten to it. Devon suddenly became self conscious. He had been so caught up in the fight that he hadn’t realized how much damage he had inflicted. Now, looking at Arthur’s bruised face, he felt a rare twinge of guilt. "Uh, Arthur, I…" Devon wasn’t the type to apologize. The words stuck awkwardly in his throat, his usually rough exterior slightly flustered. Arthur sat up, waved his hand dismissively, and said, "It was a fair fight. Injuries are part of it. If anything, they help me improve." To him, these bruises were nothing. Compared to the injuries he suffered at the hands of Zac bullying, this was mild. If anything, enduring that torment had built his resilience to pain. And in combat, endurance was everything.
