Stronger Every Time I Die
At this point, Stanley suddenly paused. He glanced at Arthur, hesitating on whether to continue. Arthur looked up at him, puzzled. "According to what?" Stanley sighed before continuing, "According to reliable sources, Susie suffered severe corpus luteum rupture. Because she wasn’t treated in time, the delay in medical care may result in her being unable to conceive in the future." After finishing, Stanley carefully observed Arthur’s expression. He hadn’t wanted to say it—he feared Arthur might soften and blame himself. But he also didn’t want to hide anything from Arthur. As his subordinate, it wasn’t his place to withhold information. What Arthur decided to do next was entirely up to him. Stanley knew his role well—he only needed to carry out his responsibilities. It was precisely this clear-headedness that made Arthur trust him so much. As Stanley’s words settled, silence filled the room. After a long pause, Arthur sighed. "Find a good doctor for her in secret. Let them take a look." He didn’t want to get involved, but after all, Susie was Raelynn’s daughter. This was the least he could do to repay the debt of being brought into this world. Stanley opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he remained silent. Forget it. Stanley simply replied, "Understood." After Stanley left, Ashley pushed open the door and walked in. Seeing Arthur’s somber expression, she asked with concern, "Arthur?" Outside, she had overheard Stanley’s words. She sat beside Arthur, gently holding his hand. Arthur let out a heavy sigh. "Ashley, should I not have turned them away? Because of me, Susie might never be able to have children." Arthur understood what it meant for a woman to lose the ability to conceive. Some women chose not to have children, but there was a vast difference between choosing not to and being unable to. It was a lifelong burden. Hearing this, Ashley sharply turned to look at him. "Arthur, have you forgotten how they treated you?" She locked eyes with him, her gaze serious."Arthur, I respect your decisions, but I also hope you won’t regret them. What happened to Susie was between her and those thugs. You didn’t send them after her, you’re not responsible for this. You shouldn’t take this burden upon yourself." Arthur looked at Ashley, and his heart trembled. That’s right! In my past life, they stood by and watched as I drowned in the ocean! They abused me my entire childhood without a single moment of mercy! How could I be so quick to forget the pain once the wounds had healed? Then, something Ashley said caught his attention—those thugs. Arthur suddenly called out, "Stanley." Stanley had just finished a phone call when he re-entered the room. "Mr. Gray, you need me?" Arthur instructed, "Look into the background of those thugs." Hearing this, Stanley’s expression turned serious. Years of experience had trained his instincts well. He immediately responded, "Understood!" It wasn’t surprising that the thugs had been able to target them—they had been thrown out of the hotel in broad daylight. Arthur pondered. But Stephen… why had he just happened to be there at the right time? Why had he been able to rescue them so conveniently? All of this seemed far too coincidental. In Seacity, at the hospital, after a few days of recovery, Susie was discharged. Stephen personally came to take them to the Yarbrough residence. Throughout the journey, Julie and Raelynn were both filled with anxiety. Julie was acutely aware of her feelings for Stephen, and over the past few days, she could sense that Stephen felt something for her as well. The Yarbrough residence, where Stephen’s parents and grandmother lived. This meant she was about to meet his family. Julie glanced down at her outfit. The clothes had been provided by Stephen’s people—high-end, well-fitted designer brands. But they weren’t clothes she had personally chosen. And today, of all days, she was meeting Stephen’s family. She wasn’t entirely satisfied with how she looked.Yet, she and Stephen weren’t officially together. She was also broke, so there was no way she could ask him to take her shopping. More importantly, she was at her lowest point right now. They didn’t even have a proper gift to bring as a token of respect! That was the most humiliating part of it all. Right now, they were under Stephen’s care, and not just her—she had her entire family with her. That immediately put them at a disadvantage. Julie’s palms were sweaty. What if his family looks down on me? If they did, staying at the Yarbrough estate would be unbearably awkward. Raelynn, on the other hand, was even more nervous. She was about to see him— It had been more than twenty years. She had no idea what he looked like now.
