Stronger Every Time I Die
Maybe Arthur had just gotten famous in South City, and the locals assumed he was Cloudia Corporation’s chairman. After all, it was only netizens speculating. Cloudia Corporation’s official account had never confirmed anything. That was the strongest proof of all. But within the Yarbrough family, both Madam Xylia and Zane believed Arthur was the real chairman. Maris didn’t buy it, but he also had no proof that Arthur wasn’t—so he didn’t dare argue too much. Hearing Maris mumbling under his breath, Zane smacked the back of his head. "Cloudia Corporation’s headquarters is in South City. If the whole city says Arthur is the chairman, how could it be fake?" If it were just one or two people, there might be room for doubt. But with so many people saying the same thing, chances were, it was true. Besides, Zane had already gone to the Gibson family to test the waters. Nancy had admitted outright that they had partnered with Cloudia Corporation. Zane sighed. Maris had always been arrogant. Arthur had humiliated him in public and even broken his hand. With his personality, there was no way he would ever admit that Arthur was more successful than him. Especially when Arthur was barely an adult. Back when Maris was Arthur’s age, he was still wasting time in school. Meanwhile, Stephen sat quietly, deep in thought. He agreed with Zane, but there was still the possibility that Arthur was faking it. Cloudia Corporation’s chairman had always been a mystery. It wasn’t impossible that Arthur was just some fraud using the name for attention. In the end, Maris had no choice. He was outnumbered. Zane grabbed him by the arm and dragged him toward the Gibson residence. Standing in front of the Gibson family’s gates, Zane shuddered. The last time he was here, he had been bitten by a stray dog. The wounds on his hand still hadn’t fully healed. That dog had been put down, but just standing here again made his instincts scream at him to run. Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward. Inside, Spencer and his family had just finished discussing the engagement plans. When Dravenis came in to report the visitors, Spencer and Nancy’s expressions instantly darkened. "Him again? He just won’t go away!" Arthur raised an eyebrow. So Zane had been causing trouble recently? Spencer waved his hand impatiently. "Tell him I’m not here. I don’t want to see him." "Understood," Dravenis said. He was just as fed up with Zane as the rest of the household. Returning to the gate, Dravenis blocked their way. But Zane wasn’t so easy to dismiss. Before entering, he had already asked the security guards. The Gibson family hadn’t gone out. Arthur had just arrived—there was no way they had taken him somewhere else. Zane put on a sincere expression. "I brought my son to apologize to Mr. Gray. Please, give us a chance to make amends." Dravenis hesitated at the word apologize and glanced at Maris. He knew exactly what had happened between Maris and Arthur. That arrogant bastard had disrespected Miss Gibson and gotten what he deserved. Arthur had put him in his place, and Dravenis had liked him ever since. Maris scowled but, under Zane’s sharp gaze, reluctantly lowered his head to show agreement. Seeing this, Dravenis had no choice but to report back. Spencer and Nancy exchanged skeptical glances."They came to apologize? Since when are they that considerate?" Spencer instinctively wanted to refuse. He didn’t want the Yarbroughs ruining their good mood. But Arthur stopped him. "There’s no avoiding this. If we don’t see them today, we’ll run into them sooner or later." Seacity’s social circles weren’t that big. If they ignored Zane now, he could very well show up at the engagement party instead—causing an even bigger scene. Arthur had no intention of inviting the Yarbroughs, but with Zane’s connections, he could still find a way in. Arthur wasn’t about to let his engagement be ruined by some petty grudge. It was better to settle things now. Spencer nodded. "Arthur has a point." Then, with a frown, he said, "Let them in."
