Stronger Every Time I Die
Renee sobbed, her voice trembling. “And… I saw people online saying… saying… that Zac isn’t even your child…” Her words broke off as grief choked her. John panicked. He pulled her into his arms again, his hatred for Susie deepening. He hurried to reassure her. “I never said Zac was my illegitimate child. That was Susie! I just posted a statement online—Zac is my biological son! Those rumors will die down soon, don’t worry.” With just a few words, Renee had buried John under a mountain of guilt. Still crying softly, she whispered, “But… will people actually believe that? In your home with Raelynn, Zac has always been nothing more than an unwanted bastard without a voice.” As she spoke, a sudden look of fear crossed her face. Grabbing John’s arm, she gasped, “Now that Raelynn knows Zac is your son… will she try to drive him out?” John froze. Then, he quickly shook his head. “No! She wouldn’t dare!” He tightened his grip on Renee’s hand, his voice firm. “Renee, I’ll divorce Raelynn right now. I’ll marry you—give you the grandest wedding imaginable. That way, Zac will never be called a bastard again!” At his words, Renee’s lowered brows twitched. Marry her? Ha. Gray Corporation was already on the brink of collapse. What could he possibly use to marry her in grand fashion? Did he even have the money for that? Forcing herself to suppress her distaste, Renee let her voice waver as she murmured, “Johnny… it’s okay. I don’t care about suffering a little. I just… I just worry about our child. He has nothing now, and with the whole internet attacking him, I’m afraid he might not be able to take it.” As she spoke, her tears fell again, delicate and heartbreaking. John’s heart ached for her. He didn’t notice anything odd in her words. He immediately reassured her, “Who said he has nothing? I was already planning to hand Gray Corporation over to him. Now that Zac is of age, I’ll transfer all my shares to him today!” John held her shoulders gently. “That way, he won’t have to be afraid anymore, and you won’t have to worry.” Hearing this, Renee’s eyes brightened! But she quickly masked her excitement, hesitating as she softly asked, “Would that really be okay?” John waved off her concerns, his tone resolute. “Of course! Zac is my son. Giving him everything is only right.” Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he added, “Don’t worry—I’ll pay off the company’s debts before transferring the shares to Zac. Once he gets them, they’ll be real assets.” Renee feigned shock. “Pay off the debts? How?” John’s voice was gentle. “Julie and Rosie each have a property under their name. I’ve already put them up for sale. They should be sold by today. Once the money comes in, I can settle the debts.” He gazed at Renee, his eyes filled with tenderness. Looking at her innocent, tear-filled eyes, he felt an overwhelming urge to give her the world—just to keep her from crying. Renee lowered her head against his chest, but beneath her soft, pitiful expression, her lips curled slightly. If she didn’t have to keep up this act, she would have laughed out loud. This trick worked on men every time. Gray Corporation was already a sinking ship, but those shares still had some value. Once she got her hands on them, she’d sell them immediately. With cash in hand… that man would finally look at her differently. She raised her head, her tear-filled eyes full of concern. “But… won’t Raelynn be upset?” Seeing her hesitation, John’s heart clenched. Even after ten years, Renee was still just as kind—always thinking of others, even when she had suffered so much. He gently wiped away her tears. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.” But even as he said that, a cold smirk flashed through his mind. Raelynn’s feelings? He didn’t give a damn. For years, he had given her nothing—not a single property under her name, not a single luxury. And she never complained. Just earlier, she had the nerve to suggest transferring his shares to her. That only made John more determined to put everything in Zac’s name as soon as possible. It was all going to Zac eventually, anyway.Besides, Zac was still in school, and the senior executives were still there. Once John recovered, he could help oversee things. Everything was falling into place.
