Stronger Every Time I Die
Zac wasn’t John illegitimate son? Ever since the Gray family adopted Zac, Arthur had sensed something off about John’s attitude toward him. Zac was never treated like an ordinary adopted child. Having lived through another lifetime and witnessed everything unfold, Arthur had always assumed that John protected Zac so fiercely because he was his biological son. But to think, he wasn’t even related by blood! Yet John’s unwavering attitude toward him... Did John even know Zac wasn’t his son? Now, this was interesting. Arthur asked, "Any movement from the Gray family?" "Julie immediately took action to stop it. Right now, both sides are at a stalemate." After a pause, Stanley added, "That Renee doesn’t seem simple. It looks like someone is backing her up." "Backing her?" Arthur raised an eyebrow. "Who’s behind her?" "We haven’t found out yet." Arthur pondered for a moment. "Could it be one of the two men she was involved with back then?" Stanley smiled. They really were in sync. "I suspected the same thing, but that person’s identity is quite mysterious. It won’t be easy to dig up." Arthur suddenly changed the subject. "How’s the Gray Corporation’s stock?" At the mention of business, Stanley’s expression turned serious again. "Ever since that banquet, the Gray family’s stock has plummeted. In the past two days, it’s hit rock bottom. A large number of orders have been canceled, and many employees have been put on leave. At this rate, they won’t last much longer." Arthur nodded. This was all within his expectations. After a brief silence, he said, "It’s time. Start acquiring shares from small shareholders and independent investors in Gray Corporation." Stanley was taken aback. "Gray Corporation is practically worthless right now. It’s even in debt. Why would we buy its shares?"Arthur gazed into the distance. "Because it’s the legacy of the Gray family. I don’t want it falling into someone else’s hands." If his grandfather knew what had become of the Gray family, he would be heartbroken. Arthur felt a rare pang of nostalgia as he thought of his grandfather’s kind face. In the Gray family, only his grandfather had ever treated him well. But unfortunately, he had left on a long journey years ago, and since then, there had been no word of him. No one knew where he had gone or if he was still in good health. Stanley understood and didn’t press further. He simply responded respectfully, "Understood." As they spoke, Tammy suddenly knocked and entered. "Mr. Gray, Ms. Julie is outside. She wishes to see you." Julie? Arthur responded indifferently, "Let her in." "Yes." Stanley and Tammy both stepped out. Moments later, Julie walked in, dressed in a crisp, professional outfit. Arthur remained seated, his head lowered as he focused on signing the stack of documents before him. Without even looking up, he said flatly. "What brings you here, Ms. Julie?" Hearing the way he addressed her, Julie felt a sharp pain in her heart. Once, he had followed behind her, calling her sister with such sincerity. But she had never cherished it. Julie looked around the grand office, her emotions a complicated mix. This office was far larger than hers. Every detail exuded authority and grandeur. Before learning that Arthur was the chairman of Cloudia Corporation, she had come here several times, hoping to collaborate with them. But each time, she had been turned away. This was her first time stepping inside. This entire building was awe inspiring. Just standing outside its doors gave a sense of shock and reverence, it was leagues beyond Gray Corporation. She had never imagined that the younger brother they had once scorned, the one they had dismissed as worthless, would one day sit atop such a towering empire, in an office so majestic. And yet, here he was, sitting there so effortlessly, as if that seat had always belonged to him. As if he was born to lead, born to command from the heights. Julie had never noticed before, Arthur possessed a presence that even John lacked! Suddenly, she understood why Yoder had said Arthur would accomplish great things in the future. A person’s aura didn’t lie.Arthur, noticing her prolonged silence, grew impatient. "If Ms. Julie has no business here, then please leave." "Wait." Julie quickly spoke up, her tone carrying a hint of urgency. Now, standing before Arthur, she had to look up at him. At last, Arthur lifted his gaze to her, but only for a fleeting moment.
