My Best Friend’s Brother Was Never Supposed to Taste Me
♡ Mia's pov ♡ " Okay, so you're saying Brian Gomez invited you to his famous bonfire? And you're having second thoughts? Girl, do you know how many kids would kill to go there?" Colby exaggerated as he turned around to face me. It was lunchtime and I was starving. I shrugged, my belly knotting in nerves. Why did I agree to go? I've never partied before. I didn't even know what to expect from a party. "You're finally getting noticed by your forever crush! That calls room for celebration, we should definitely go!" Colby whistles. " I don't know, I agreed because Kade said yes. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm not some party girl," I admitted, shifting forward when the line moves. Honestly, can't it move any faster? A girl is starving over here! Colby's brows shot to his hairline. I was kidding, that wasn't possible. Still, his brows did get a little high there. " Ah, I see what's going on......." He drawled making me stiffen. Did he know? Could he sense that I was attracted to Kade? " You're going into protective sister mode," He snaps his fingers and chuckled. I sighed yet cringed inwardly. At least he couldn't tell I was thinking more than 'sisterly' thoughts about Kade. " Honestly Mia, Kade can definitely protect himself. The guy became Mr. Popular in an hour or maybe even less! He's even surpassed Brian's popularity and with Brianna at his feet, the guy has seriously turned into a walking living God." He wasn't wrong, Kade definitely looked like he can protect himself. But, protecting Kade in a sisterly way was far from the truth. I knew I just wanted to keep an eye out on him and Brianna. Jealousy was an ugly thing. And I don't think I've ever felt it so strongly before. "Right. " I nodded wanting to end the conversation. "Anyway, I didn't say the thought was bad, in fact, it's even a more good idea to go. That way you can keep an eye out for him. " Colby grins."Next! " The plump lunch lady who seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else yelled. " Colby, you're holding up the line," I motioned to the irritated lunch lady currently burying Colby in her angered mind. Colby span around, his grin growing as his eyes settle on the annoyed lunch lady. " Hey, Sarah! Good day girl, what ya got for me today?" He chirps, walking over to her and lifting his dark green tray. Sarah's eyes shift into more annoyance as she pushes the big spoon into the less look appetizing beans. " Red beans," She said dryly and without warning tosses the beans on the ugly tray. Colby's mouth part in shock. "Next! " She yells dismissing Colby. " Can I at least get a slice of dry bread to go with that?" Colby huffs, looking at the beans in disgust. Sarah's eyes move back to Colby and she glares. Sighing unnecessarily loudly, Sarah picks up a dry slice of bread that looked on the verge of being moldy. Yuck. She places the dry moldy looking bread on Colby's tray, right beside the beans. " Bon appétit," She sang dryly. Colby's eyes fall to his tray and his lips curl into disgust. " Sarah, what the fuck is this?" Colby whispered. I nearly choked on my own breath. Colby points at the dry bread and beans. " This looks like it just came out of a cat's ass Sarah. Does it look like I eat cat's shit? " Sarah stunned by Colby's words stayed mute. She must've not expected him to speak up about her treatment towards him. " Sarah darling, please give me something that can actually be digested. Or I might just have a word with the health- Colby didn't have time to finish his sentence before Sarah gives him a bowl of mac and cheese and throws two pieces of fried chicken on his tray. Colby grins sassily and throws the ugly bread on the table. " This looks more suited for you, don't you think?" He asked and turned around to look at me. "I'll wait for you there," He points at a table in the far corner and I couldn't help but notice Kade was there, alone. My eyes widen. Had he gone nuts? Before I could ask him if he felt ill today, Colby walks away. "Colby!" I hissed lowly but he ignores me and make's his way toward Kade. "Colby!" I hissed again."Next!" Sarah blasted. Guess her angry mood had surfaced again. Smiling awkwardly, I walk up to her and lift the tray. "Just a sandwich and a bottle of water please." _ I gripped the tray as I stared at Colby who waves me over rather too happily. I wince when Kade's fuming glare pins him down. He doesn't look too pleased that Colby came to sit beside him. Honestly, what was Colby thinking? Kade made it pretty clear that he didn't want to be seen with us. "Mia! " Colby shouted, gaining the attention of everyone. " Come over girl!" Awkwardly looking around, I sighed and strutted over to him and Kade. If I didn't, he'd definitely embarrass me. I quickly tear my eyes away from Kade when I plop down on one of the empty chairs opposite him. I could feel his penetrating stare had shifted to me and honestly, the room suddenly felt hot and suffocating. "So Kade, Mia's told me that you'll be going to the bonfire tonight. Are we carpooling together or...." Colby drawled. Truthfully, I'm wondering how did Colby seem to have grown bigger balls to talk to Kade, seeing as Kade hasn't been too friendly towards him. I couldn't resist Kade's penetrating stare anymore and my gaze sweeps over to him. The blue looks beautiful as it pierces my soul. My heart skips. Kade is about to answer Colby's pending question when he's interrupted. " Dude we've been looking for you," Brian says, taking a vacant chair and dragging it over to our table. I didn't know why I said our table when it was practically Kade's and it was very apparent that he was not pleased with Colby and me being here. I jerked forward, wincing when the entire football team follows after Brian. " Hey," I looked over to see a blonde guy I recognize as Stanly. His single brow lifts as he nudges his head. "Can you scoot down a little?" I nodded numbly and scoot down my chair a little so he can worm his way between Colby and me. "Dude you need to try out for the team. You're huge and we need a guy like you if we wish to beat the Wolverines this year. " Brian voices out and my attention draws to him to see that his attention was on Kade. He wants Kade to join the team? Kade shrugs, his eyes sweeping over to me. "Don't know, I might." "Kade!" The squeal was annoying, but that might have to do with the owner. Brianna giggles flirtatiously as she uses Kade's thigh as a seat. Kade doesn't push her away. My teeth hurt as I clench them. "We'll come to pick you up tonight, so no bailing out on us," She chirps and giggles, swinging an arm over his shoulder to balance herself. Tearing my eyes away from the two, I looked over at Colby whose eyes were glued to Stanly's biceps. I rolled my eyes. "Oh hey Mia, I can come to pick you up too if you want?" Brian offered suddenly. My face flamed when all eyes are on me, especially Kade's. I shook my head. "That's fine. I can drive there." Being in a car with Brianna and Kade for God knows how long, doesn't exactly feel like it would be a great idea. "Want to know what I'm wearing tonight?" I caught Brianna's whisper to Kade and I suddenly feel nauseated. I gripped my sandwich and took off a huge piece, chewing angrily as I pictured myself shoving the entire tray in Brianna's mouth.
