My Best Friend’s Brother Was Never Supposed to Taste Me
♡ Mia's pov ♡ "I'm sorry about last night. I know I've been pushing you too much to bond with Kade. It's just that, he's your age you know? If anyone could get through him, I just thought- Mom stops and hurls in a tired breath before letting it out. I looked at her, really looked at her. She seems tired and disheartened. " I just want to get through to him. But I everytime I speak to him, it seems like he hates me more. Even your dad's having trouble getting through him. " Mom admits. "I think you're doing a good job mom. Just don't give up, you'll get through him one day. And for what it's worth, I don't think he hates you," I whispered and chewed on my lip when her eyes lit. " And about last night, I was just not in a very good mood. And I took it out on people that didn't deserve it. I'm sorry." I apologized. This was just as hard for mom as it was for me to get used to Kade being here. Maybe even worst. Mom makes her way around the kitchen counter and pulled me into a warm hug. " I was once a teenager Mia. So don't worry about it baby. " We pulled away when we heard rushing feet. Austin enters the kitchen and when his eyes fall on me, he glares. Guess someone's still piss at me. I smiled awkwardly. "Hey bud- "Still mad at you." He huffs admitting what I knew already and crossed his thin arms across his chest. "Hey, go easy on your sister mister," Mom smiled, walking over to Austin to ruffle his hair. "Mom!" Austin whined, jutting out his bottom lip to form a small pout. "Looks like everyone's all smiles this early morning!" Dad joked as he strutted into the kitchen. He walks straight over to mom, planting a chaste kiss on her lips. She blushes when he whispers something in her ear and I cringed. I wouldn't want to know what got her so flustered. Dad does the same thing mom had done to Austin's hair, which only led Austin to whine even louder than before. " Morning twizzler," I squeezed my eyes shut. "Dad, you gotta stop calling me that!" __I shifted in my seat and secured the seat belt around me. I'm startled when the door at the back, opens suddenly. I look through the rearview mirror and my eyes clash with impossibly blue eyes. He's rather prompt today. My eyes fall to his tie. And the tie looks pretty good for someone who struggled with it yesterday. "You're pretty early today. At least this time we won't arrive to school ten minutes before the bell rings like yesterday," I joked. The air felt so awkward and tense. I knew I upset him with my words yesterday and knew it was the reason he was treating me so coldly. I pushed out a breath. "Hey, I'm sorry about calling you a bastard yesterday. You just caught me off guard- I stop when Kade pushes the earphones in his ears and completely shuts me out. His eyes fall to the screen of his phone and he types on it furiously. I narrowed my eyes and let out a puff of irritated air. So much for apologizing. I pulled out of the driveway soon after and made my way to Colby's. __ " What's with Mr. Hot and moody? Looks even more pissed off than yesterday?" Colby jerks a thumb at the back. I shrugged. "Don't know. You ask him," Colby scoffs. "Me ask that guy? He's hot, a hundred percent burning flames hot. But he also look like he could kill me in a second. I'm not about to lose my life to a hot guy Mia." I sneaked a swift peek at Kade through the rearview mirror and he chooses this moment to lift his head from his phone. Did he always sensed when I'm looking at him? He rip them away and looks out the window. His actions made my stomach tug down painfully. __ I jolt when he slams the car door rather harshly. Colby looks at me with wide eyes. "Jeez he's really pissed off. "Thanks for stating the obvious Colby. You're such the brightest one in the pack. Of course I keep my lips pressed and don't say this aloud, not wanting to hurt Colby's feelings. " I called him bastard yesterday," I admitted, sweeping my tongue over my bottom lip. Colby slaps his palm on his forehead, temporarily leaving a red print. " Okay now I understand why he's so pissed. You can't go around calling a guy who just lost his mom a bastard. Especially since it's pretty obvious his dad is out of the picture." I groan, throwing my head back on the seat in frustration. " Don't you think I know that? I've been trying to apologize to him but of course this is Kade and he's as cold as an ice cube. Definitely not the forgiving type." "Maybe try a little harder?" Colby suggested, opening the door. "Look we'll go in there. Find Kade's locker and hopefully he's there. You'll muster up some invisible big balls and apologize to him," Sighing I nodded. I didn't want Kade to stay angry at me for too long. The guilt of ever calling him such a name ate at me. I walked out of the car, closed the door, and Colby and I made our way to the school. I wish it was easy to face Kade, he made it practically impossible to just walk up to him and start a conversation. " Okay, there he is. You're just going to walk up to him and beg for his forgiveness. Girl, you give him a blow job if you have to," Colby urged as he pushed me towards Kade who stood by his locker. I twist around, stunned by his words. "Colby!" I hissed lowly. His brows lift. " What? I was just saying," Shrugging he shooed me away. " Now shoo, balls up and go apologize to Mr. Hot and moody." He was such a traitor for not going with me. He left me to fight alone. Turning around to look at Kade throw in some of his books inside his locker, I let out a huge heavy sigh. It was now or never. I straightened my spine, stopped chewing my lips and walked over to him. He doesn't even glance my way. "What do you want Red?" Even though his words weren't exactly friendly, I still blushed at the name he called me. "I know you're still mad about what I called you yesterday. I'm so sorry Kade, I didn't mean it. I was just- I swallowed. I didn't know what to say." No need to apologize. I forgot about it. And you should too. " He grunts, still not sparing me a glance. I missed those blue eyes. I miss the way they made me feel. I want him to look at me. " Hey Kade man!" I took a step back when Brian Gomez suddenly slings an arm over Kade's shoulder. Kade doesn't say anything, just continues to fix the books in his locker. Brian who finally notices me after so many years asked. " Mia right?" He know my name? I nodded not seeming to find my voice. Brian's grin is almost contagious. Moving away from Kade a little, Brian utters. " We're having a bonfire tonight at my parents beach house. Mostly everyone from school is coming. You should too." Wait, did Brian Gomez just invite me to a party? Well, technically it's a bonfire.... I looked over at Kade. He seems tense all of a sudden. "Kade, " The voice that belonged to Brianna made me nearly roll my eyes. Her perfect figure sashes towards him and her sweet perfume smell surround us. She wraps her tone arms around Kade's bicep and hugs him. " You're coming to the bonfire tonight, right?" Kade turns around, gave me a quick glance before answering a clinging Brianna. " Yeah." Maybe it wouldn't be bad to go too. Brianna squeals happily. Not able to stand there any longer without feeling the green little monster, I make my escape. Only to be stopped. "Expect to see you there Mia!" Brian yells. I winced. Jesus dude chill, I'm literally a few feet away from you. I nodded walking even quicker to get away from them. Colby's mouth is wide open as he mouths out 'What the fuck?'
