The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 710 Something Feels Off

I honestly did not expect that kind of question. I paused for a beat before answering, keeping my voice steady, "I think it all comes down to responsibility." "Responsibility?" The reporter repeated, her smile sharpening like she had been waiting for this. "Funny you say that. There were reports you skipped work without giving any reason. Is that what you call being responsible? Oh, and let's not forget the whole scandal about you juggling two relationships at once. Your explanation back then was pretty vague. Care to finally clear things up?" Her words threw me for a second. My face stiffened slightly as I instinctively glanced at Sandra. Normally, everything at these press conferences is super controlled—questions get screened, and reporters are handpicked to make sure nothing messy comes up. Everything's supposed to boost my image, not tear it down. Yet, today, it was a live broadcast, and this kind of question could blow up fast. Sure enough, the livestream chat exploded. People were swarming in, some haters tossing around insults, eager to see me crash and burn. Sandra immediately stepped forward, but I clenched my fists and took a breath, ready to answer. "I ... " Before I could get the words out, a voice suddenly shouted from the crowd. "It's true. She skipped work. And backstage just now, she was all over Jasper Sullivan!" The whole room instantly buzzed with tension. Reporters whipped out their cameras and mics, trying to catch the chaos firsthand. No one from the staff had seen this coming. It was a complete mess, and the team had no choice but to cut the live feed on the spot. With the press conference officially derailed, the staff rushed Jasper and me out of the room. Behind us, I could still hear the organizer barking furiously, "What the hell just happened? Who said that?" My chest tightened. It was pretty clear the whole thing was set up to target me. Sandra leaned in, whispering, "I've already called the company. They're sending people over to handle it." However, my mind was still stuck on that question about responsibility. Had I really lived up to it?Skipping work without warning ... messy relationships ... those things were not rumors—they were facts. A bitter laugh bubbled up inside me. Maybe this messy, flawed version of me is who I really am—way different from the polished image everyone sees on screen. I took a shaky breath, about to say something, but Jasper cut in first. "Let's talk when we get back to the company," he said firmly. He gave my shoulder a reassuring pat, and whatever I was about to say just got stuck in my throat. Meanwhile, the disaster from the press conference was already blowing up online. The livestream had gone viral, dragging all those old scandals of mine back into the spotlight. Everything was spiraling out of control. Rosaline's POV: Back at the company, I got wind of what had happened at Naomi's press conference and immediately called in the PR team to start damage control. Still, I could not shake the feeling that something was wrong. It did not seem like this was just about Naomi—it felt like a bigger plan was at play. Still, the media storm had to be the first thing we tackled. As I was thinking about it, Wendy's weird smile at Richard's birthday party flashed through my mind. I picked up my phone and dialed Caden. He did not pick up immediately—probably tied up with something, as usual. Just then, the office door burst open. Sandra, dragging Naomi along by the wrist, rushed in. "Ms. Sinclair," Sandra said, her face serious. Naomi looked completely wiped out, hiding under a black baseball cap. I softened my tone and gestured toward the couch. "Come sit. I've already set things in motion to clean up the mess from earlier. Don't worry too much, okay?" Sandra quickly added, "Ms. Sinclair, something's off about this whole thing. How did that reporter even get into the press conference?" Naomi's manager had been around in the entertainment world for a long time and had seen it all. Yet, times had changed—Naomi was now Starplay's top priority, and our company had serious pull in the industry. For someone to dare mess with us like that, it clearly was not just some small stunt. I kept my suspicions to myself, letting just a cold little smile creep into my heart. At that moment, Naomi finally pulled off her cap and looked up at me, eyes tired but clear. "Rosaline," she said quietly, "I want to leave the entertainment industry."
