The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 678 The Novice in Stone Betting

As I spoke, I tightened my fingers. "You ... " Jessica gasped, too afraid to breathe, her eyes filled with terror. I smiled casually. "What's wrong, Ms. Sullivan? Are you scared? Didn't you say that if we're going to gamble, we should go big?" Jessica's teeth were chattering, and just as she hesitated to respond, I released my grip on her. I brushed the makeup off my palms, smirking. "I'm not gambling with you. Caden isn't an item. Why should he be a wager?" At these words, Caden looked at me with such softness in his eyes, it was almost as if they were melting. Feeling his gaze, I turned and winked at him. Jessica stumbled back a few steps, letting out a shaky breath, staring at me in disbelief. "You ... " I wasn't interested in responding to her. I turned and walked toward the witch's stone area, leaving her with one last remark. "By the way, Ms. Sullivan, remember to choose a lighter foundation next time. Yours is too thick, and it's starting to cake on your neck." "You—!" Jessica's fury ignited, but she was quickly silenced by Jack's cough. She ground her teeth, sneering. "Ms. Sinclair, you're quite confident. Let's start, then." "I've already started picking," I shot back, eyeing her. "Unless you have some special trick, just standing there won't make the best stone magically run to you." I wasn't about to show her any mercy. If she wanted a fight, I'd give it to her. Reluctantly, Jessica jogged over and scoffed. "Let's see if your luck with witch's stones is as good as your tongue." Jessica's POV: Thatdamn Rosaline! Today, I'mgoingtomakeher lose, andshe'llhavetoadmitdefeat! The Stars Pack was known for generations of experience in witch's stone betting, and with my own gifted sense, I was confident of my victory. Rosaline didn't have a clue, just idly picking stones and observing.Soon, a crowd of werewolf gamblers had gathered around us, drawn by my reputation and the fact that Jack hadn't made any effort to hide our bet. Nearly every werewolf present was now watching us. After a bit of walking, I picked up a stone. Just as I was about to take it back, another stone caught my attention. I saw Rosaline standing nearby, seemingly about to take that same stone. Without thinking, I snatched it away, almost from under her hand. "Sorry, Ms. Sinclair, but I saw this one first," I said with a smirk. Rosaline didn't seem bothered. She gave a nonchalant smile and turned her attention elsewhere. I looked down at the stone in my hand. The surface didn't reveal much, but my instincts told me there was something valuable inside. After picking my stone, I walked over, deliberately stopping next to Caden. "Mr. Holbrook, do you really trust Rosaline?" However, Caden didn't even glance at me. His gaze remained fixed on Rosaline. Just then, a gasp came from the crowd. I looked over and was momentarily stunned. Rosaline was carrying an enormous stone. If I didn't know better, I'd think she had pulled it straight off some cliff. Larger stones often had higher value and a greater chance of containing high-level witch's stones, but there was also a higher risk. Many gamblers who chose large stones ended up with worthless material. It was a gamble—one that could make you a millionaire or leave you penniless. The werewolves around us exchanged puzzled glances, but Rosaline was unfazed, calmly setting the stone down. "Exhausting, this thing's pretty heavy," Rosaline sighed, fanning herself with her hand. Jack's face darkened slightly as he observed her. I couldn't hold back a sharp laugh. "Ms. Sinclair, bigger stones don't necessarily mean higher-quality witch's stones." Looking at the stone she brought, it was covered in dust, as if it had been dug out from some forgotten corner. Such a piece of junk couldn't possibly beat mine.Rosaline didn't react. She shrugged nonchalantly. "Well, I don't really know much about witch's stone betting. I just picked one at random. Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky."
