The Despised Luna's Comeback
With Richard's birthday just around the corner, I naturally started shopping for a gift. But after searching high and low, I still couldn't find anything that felt right, and it was starting to wear on my nerves. After the morning meeting at the office, Jasper came over with a concerned look and asked, "Are you okay? You don't look so great." I paused for a second, shook my head, and said, "It's nothing. Mr. Richard's birthday is coming up, and I still haven't found a gift." I didn't bother hiding it from Jasper. Every year when Richard's birthday rolled around, the Eclipse Pack threw a party and invited a bunch of local celebrities, including public figures like Jasper. Hearing that, Jasper suddenly caught on and smiled. "Want me to help you pick one out?" "You?" I was stunned. "What? Don't trust me?" Jasper raised an eyebrow, and his grin widened. I let out a laugh but shook my head anyway. This was just one of those small things I could handle myself. A flicker of disappointment passed through Jasper's eyes, but he didn't press it. He just walked alongside me. That was when someone tapped me on the shoulder, prompting me to step away from Jasper. I turned around in surprise and saw Joel standing there. Even though he was smiling, his eyes were locked onto Jasper's face. "How'd you even get in here?" I narrowed my eyes, remembering that I'd specifically told the front desk not to let Joel in. Yet here he was; the prince of the Fostrau werewolf clan, standing right in front of me. "Secret entrance," Joel said with a smirk as he tried to be mysterious. I sighed internally. "What are you up to now?" "Dinner, of course," Joel said casually as he slid between Jasper and me. "I told you to stop pulling this stunt ... " I said, letting my frustration show. Joel, like he'd picked it up from somewhere, grabbed my sleeve and started acting cutesy. "Come on, just this once." Seeing the look on my face, Jasper jumped in, "Sorry, but Rosaline already agreed to come with me. You can go now." Joel immediately turned his head and shot Jasper a glare. A headache was brewing, so I looked away. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I felt like someone was watching me from the shadows. "Do the two of you really have nothing better to do than bug me?" I muttered, not waiting for their answer as I turned and walked off. "Hey, wait up!" Joel chased after me. As I rounded the corner, a werewolf brushed past me with his head down, looking nervous. I glanced at him—something about him didn't sit right—and I called out, "Hold on." The werewolf froze in place but didn't turn around. He tugged at his collar, like he was bracing himself for something. "What department are you from? I don't think I've seen you around," I asked suspiciously. "I ... I ... " the werewolf stammered, clearly at a loss for words. That was when my phone buzzed, and the moment I glanced down, the werewolf suddenly bolted. "Hey!" Joel yelped beside me. He was startled. The werewolf's reaction was clearly off, and I immediately called my assistant. "Tell the werewolf guards to lock down all exits. No one in or out!" I was on high alert; earlier I'd noticed a bulging bag under the werewolf's arm. Most likely, it was a reporter who had snuck in. Joel took off after him almost instantly, while I headed straight to the surveillance room to track him. When I got to the lobby, Joel was standing there, panting, and looking right at me. "I lost him. That guy was insanely fast. Who was he? You think he's trying to steal something?" I checked my phone and gave the signal for the guards to reopen the entrance."He's a reporter who sneaked in." I hadn't expected the guy to vanish so fast. By the time I pulled up the real-time footage, he was already gone. "A reporter? Trying to dig up dirt?" Joel frowned. "Reporters aren't even supposed to be in places like this. What's he trying to do, sneaking into someone's company?" Joel tapped his chin thoughtfully and said with a serious tone, "We should call the police right away." "That won't help, and the company's generally open to the public. It's not unusual for strangers to walk in," I said with a frown. Something about that shady paparazzo felt off. Nothing like this had ever happened before, so I hadn't taken security too seriously. But now, this was a real wake-up call. "Let's go check if anything's missing," Joel looked at me and said slowly.
