The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 658 Devastated

Naomi's POV: I stumbled back to the company, feeling dazed and disoriented. A throng of media had gathered at the entrance, and the moment they saw me, they surged forward in a chaotic rush. "Ms. Lawrence, we heard your boyfriend was in a car accident. Can you update us on his condition?" "Ms. Lawrence, were you just visiting Mr. Foster?" "Rumor has it you two broke up ages ago. Care to comment on that?" The flash of cameras was blinding, and I raised my hand to shield my eyes, inadvertently bumping into the microphone of a reporter standing closest to me. In an instant, every media outlet seemed to latch onto this, snapping photos as if they had struck gold. "Back off ... all of you, back off ... " On the brink of a breakdown, I clutched my ears in agony, desperate to escape this relentless crowd. But no matter where I turned, microphones were thrust into my face like daggers ready to slice me apart. Jasper's POV: "Stop taking pictures! All of you, stop!" I had just arrived at the company for a scheduled appointment when I saw the scene unfolding. I immediately stepped in front of Naomi, making a subtle gesture to my manager to get her out of there. Seeing the situation, my manager tried to pull Naomi away, but she stood there unresponsive, staring blankly at the ground as the flash of cameras surrounded her like a consuming force. "Naomi!" My manager grabbed her arm. With no other choice, I wrapped my arm around Naomi's waist and led her to my car. I knew this move would stir up the media even more, but I couldn't leave Naomi amidst the crowd. My manager quickly started the car and sped off, leaving the media behind.Once we were away from the media frenzy, everyone in the car relaxed a little. I looked at Naomi. She was sitting with her head tilted, her expression frozen and vacant. Samuel's car accident had already become a hot topic online, but Naomi's current state puzzled me. Even though I didn't want to jump to conclusions, Naomi didn't seem like someone devastated by her lover's accident. I opened my mouth, unsure of what to say, and ended up just sighing. The atmosphere in the car grew awkward, and we all fell into a mutual silence. Naomi's POV: I looked down at my phone, noticing a long crack across the screen. I had dropped it by accident the day Samuel had his car accident while listening to his voice messages. The screen was displaying our conversation thread, filled with messages from Samuel. As I scrolled up, I remembered him saying he would come pick me up for a late-night snack after his shoot that day. But now, that promise would never be fulfilled. "Jasper," I said, staring out the window. Jasper turned his head to look at me. I twisted the hem of my shirt in my hands and asked in a low voice, "Were you happy on Rosaline's engagement day?" "Is that why the company schedules so few interview programs for you, and tries to shield you from reporters?" Jasper chuckled lightly, but his comment left me confused. Seeing my puzzled look, Jasper gave a wry smile. "Since you already know my feelings, do you think I'd be happy about that?" I finally grasped what Jasper meant and, resting my cheek in my hand, replied helplessly, "It's true. My emotional intelligence is pretty low. I always act on impulse without thinking through the consequences." Jasper spoke softly, "You're still young and haven't experienced much. After a few more years in the industry, you won't act like this anymore.""Is that so ... " I responded, sniffling, and didn't want to continue the conversation. Jasper had another business engagement, so he instructed his manager to take me home. Back at home, I collapsed onto my bed. In the empty room, the pain in my heart surged again, and soon my vision was blurred by tears.
