The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 376 Tessa Has Cancer

Caden's POV: The nurses rushed in and carried the unconscious Heidi onto a stretcher before wheeling her toward the emergency room. I followed after a moment of hesitation. Rosaline had warned me that she might not actually be Tessa, but until I had undeniable proof, I couldn't just let her die. After all, Heidi knew every detail about our kidnapping—things only Tessa should remember. If she really was Tessa ... Lost in thought, I barely noticed a nurse hurrying out of the emergency room. "Mr. Holbrook, do you know the patient's family?" she asked anxiously. I looked up at her. "What's the issue?" "The patient's condition is quite serious," she said cautiously, intimidated by my presence. "The doctor found a large shadow in her stomach. There's a possibility it could be a tumor. We need to conduct a full examination, but we require a family member's signature." I frowned. "Just go ahead with the tests." The nurse quickly nodded. "Understood, Mr. Holbrook." With that, she turned and hurried back into the emergency room. Hours passed and the setting sun bathed the hospital in a deep orange glow by the time Heidi was finally wheeled out. Her face was deathly pale and she was still unconscious. "How is she?" I asked, casting a glance at her frail form. The doctor let out a long sigh, his voice heavy with regret. "Mr. Holbrook, we've received the results. The patient has late-stage stomach cancer. At best, she has around two years left with chemotherapy. If she chooses not to receive treatment ... she may only have a month." He shook his head. "She's so young, yet she's already standing at death's door. What a shame." Late stage ... stomach cancer? I furrowed my brows. "Mr. Holbrook, how would you like us to proceed with treatment?" the doctor asked cautiously."That decision is hers to make," I answered. To me, Heidi was nothing more than someone who had once saved my life. Any feelings I might have had for her had long since faded. The only thing I could do was ensure that, in whatever time she had left, she got whatever she wanted—so long as it was within my power to grant. "Understood," the doctor murmured. "She'll be waking up soon. It would be best if you were the one to tell her." With that, he left. I stepped into the hospital room. The lingering effects of the anesthesia kept Heidi in a deep sleep. I stood by the bed, watching her for a long moment. "Are you really Tessa?" I muttered under my breath. The girl from eight years ago flashed in my mind. However, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see that girl in the woman lying before me now. With a quiet sigh, I turned and left the room. I got into my car and headed straight for Eclipse Group. Ever since I'd gotten injured saving Rosaline, I hadn't had time to check in on the company. As soon as I arrived at my office, I summoned my Beta. "How's everything going?" "Everything is running smoothly," Yale reported respectfully. Then he hesitated. "But ... " "Speak," I ordered. Yale stiffened at my tone. "BPL has been making constant moves in the shadows. They suffered a major loss with the Azure Bay project, so it's unlikely they'll let it go." I narrowed my eyes. "I figured as much." Everett's grudge against Eclipse Pack wasn't just about Azure Bay. It ran far deeper than that. Thinking back to the photos Rosaline had shown me—photos proving Heidi and Everett had known each other back in Aurion—my expression grew even colder. "Keep an eye on BPL," I ordered."Understood, Mr. Holbrook," Yale replied with a nod. Just as he turned to leave, a thought struck me. "Did Rosaline come to work today?" Yale stopped in his tracks and quickly answered, "Yes, Ms. Sinclair is here." Rosaline's POV: I sat at my desk, flipping through the latest designs submitted by the design department for the Ice and Fire project. After a few minutes, I couldn't help but shake my head. Sabrina, have you learned nothing? I had given her specific instructions on what needed improvement, but she had ignored all of them. The result was a complete mess. Looks like I'll have to step in myself. Just then, the phone on my desk rang. I glanced at the caller ID. It was a call from the 888 Internal Line—Caden. Once I picked up the phone, his deep, magnetic voice came through the receiver. "Come to my office." "Alright," I responded. Hanging up, I took the elevator to the 18th floor. When I reached his office door, I knocked. I frowned slightly at the silence. Just as I was about to knock again, the door suddenly swung open. And there he was—Caden, standing tall and imposing while locking his piercing gaze on me. "Come in," he murmured. Before I could react, he reached out, grabbed my wrist, and pulled me inside. With a resounding bang, he shut the door behind us. The next moment, he had me pinned against the door with his powerful arms caging me in on either side. His dark eyes bored into mine as he whispered huskily, "Rosaline, I missed you."
