The Despised Luna's Comeback
Rosaline's POV: The phone on my desk rang. It was the internal line with the number "888". Caden was calling. Heidi's complaints got a response this quickly? Caden really does spoil her. I picked up the phone. "Caden, what is it?" "Let Heidi be part of the Azure Bay project. You can assign her some simple tasks," Caden said. "Got it," I replied coldly and hung up. Caden was really letting Heidi work on the same project as me? What was he trying to do? Was this his way of getting under my skin? "See? I wasn't lying," Heidi said smugly. "Now, can you explain the project to me?" "Ms. Tessford, you're so smart. Surely, you don't need me to explain anything." I patted the stack of documents on my desk before shoving them into Heidi's arms. "Take them and read for yourself." "You—!" Her face darkened. "What? Don't tell me you can't understand them." I gave a cold smile. "Who says I can't?" She shot me a glare before storming back to her seat. I had already skimmed through the documents earlier and had a general understanding of the Azure Bay project. I was about to do some additional research online when my phone suddenly rang. I glanced down. It was Yura. "Yura, what's up?" I answered the call. Her gentle voice came through the phone. "Hey, I'm planning to head back to Phoshire tonight." "So suddenly? Did something happen at Loe Studio?" I rubbed my temples. "Not at all," Yura chuckled. "I've been away for a while and feel uneasy. I should head back and keep an eye on things."Originally, Yura had come to attend my engagement ceremony with Caden, but so much had happened since then. I had called off the engagement, then got caught in an avalanche and went missing. She had been by my side, helping with everything. She'd been through a lot. She had been away for a long time. It made sense for her to return and handle things at Loe Studio. I nodded lightly. "What time is your flight? I'll take you to the airport tonight." "It's at 11 PM," Yura replied. "Alright. I'll pick you up from the hotel after work." After finishing work, I drove straight to her hotel. "Over here!" Yura waved at me from the entrance. I pulled up in front of her. "Hop in!" Sliding into the passenger seat, she glanced around. "Nice car. Is it Jasper's car?" "Yeah, he lent it to me," I replied casually. I had considered buying a car since I would be staying here for a while, but Jasper insisted on lending me his instead. "Really? I think he bought it just for you," Yura teased with a grin. "It's exactly your style. Looks like Jasper knows you pretty well." As soon as she finished speaking, my phone rang with a pleasant chime. Seeing Jasper's name flashing on the screen, Yura stuck out her tongue. "Wow, speak of the devil." I rolled my eyes at her and answered the call through my headset. "Jasper, what is it?" "Rosaline, are you off work?" His deep voice came through the line. "Yeah. I'm taking Yura to the airport right now," I replied evenly. "Do you need something?" "Do you remember that it's my birthday in two days?" Jasper asked. "I'm throwing a party. You're coming, right?" His birthday was coming up already? I tilted my head, thinking. He was right—it was around this time.A headache crept up on me. Jasper would confess his feelings to me every year on his birthday. And every year, I would turn him down as gently as I could, making it clear where we stood. But he never gave up. "Rosaline?" He sounded a little nervous when I didn't respond. "Are you still there?" "I'm listening. I'll be there," I said calmly. "Great! I have some good news to share with you then," he said excitedly. "Alright. See you then." After hanging up, I massaged my temples. What kind of good news was he talking about? As long as it wasn't another confession. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, I sped toward the airport. "Rosaline, honestly, I think Caden still cares about you," Yura said as we walked toward the terminal. I smiled faintly but didn't comment. "I mean it," Yura insisted. "You didn't see how panicked he was when I told him you went missing in the avalanche. He went crazy searching for you. If it weren't for him, things could've ended terribly." "He saved me, and I'm grateful for it," I said quietly. But ... did Caden search so desperately because he cared about me? Or was it because of Richard's illness? After all, I was the only one who could find Hughie, and only Hughie could cure Richard. "Rosaline, stop lying to yourself," Yura sighed. "I can tell that you still love Caden. Otherwise, you wouldn't be this bothered by Tessa." Hearing that name made my heart sink. I couldn't deny it. I still had feelings for Caden. But—Caden already had Tessa and Heidi was constantly flaunting their relationship in front of me. Saying it didn't hurt would be a lie. Unless I could prove that Heidi wasn't actually Tessa ... Then everything would fall into place.
