The Despised Luna's Comeback

Chapter 214 The Complicated Love Square

Seeing Heidi acting like a b*tch, I couldn't help but retort, "Ms. Tessford, that's not fair. When did I ever hit you? I was just helping you get better. Look at you now—aren't you full of energy? You followed Caden to save me, and now I've saved you once. We're even." I said that without sparing Heidi another glance, grabbing Yura's hand. "Yura, let's go find Hughie." Yura was surprised. "Aren't you going to rest for a bit?" I shook my head. "I want to find Hughie quickly and ask him to help Mr. Richard." "Rosaline, I'll go with you." Caden's voice suddenly cut in. Before I could respond, Heidi grabbed Caden's arm, covering her face. "Caden, don't leave. It hurts so much; Rosaline hit me, and it really hurts." Caden frowned. "Tessa, I'll have Yale take you back. Once I find Dr. Watts, I'll come to you." But Heidi wasn't having it. She clung to Caden desperately, tears pouring down her face. She looked so pitiful. "Caden, you once promised me you'd protect me forever. You said you'd always love me. Now you're just leaving me behind." Her words were so harsh to my ears. Caden had said similar things to me before. "Rosaline, don't be scared. I'll protect you." "I love you. I'll make you the happiest woman in the world." But now, he was saying those same words to her. I took a deep breath, pushing away the painful thoughts, and glanced at Yura. "Let's go." With that, I pulled Yura along and left. Behind me, I heard Caden's voice. "Tessa, listen to me. Go back with Yale." Then I heard Caden's footsteps catch up to me. He spoke in a low voice by my side. "Rosaline, I'll go with you." I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at him coldly. "No need. Hughie doesn't like meeting strangers. You should stay with your Tessa." "Rosaline, I—" Caden started to explain, but suddenly a man's voice called out urgently from a distance."Rosaline!" That voice ... I looked toward the sound and saw Jasper hurriedly walking toward me. "Jasper, what are you doing here?" I asked, surprised. Jasper quickly reached me. "I saw the news and found out what happened. Why didn't you tell me? Why be so foolish?" I smiled lightly. "I didn't want you to worry, so I didn't tell you." After a pause, I added, "Jasper, I'm fine. We're going to find Dr. Watts now. You can head back now." Jasper's concerned eyes were fixed on me. "Rosaline, I'll go with you." I thought for a moment and nodded. "Alright, let's go." Together with Yura and Jasper, we headed toward Keardes Hill. "Rosaline, why did you come here alone? Why didn't you tell me, so I could come with you?" Jasper said with a lingering fear in his voice. Before I could respond, Yura frowned. "Jasper, Rosaline just got out of danger. Can you let her have some peace?" "I'm sorry." Jasper blinked, then fell silent. Yura, still thinking about earlier, spoke again. "Rosaline, you should have let Caden come with us." "Why?" I pressed my lips together. Yura sighed softly. "Can't you tell? He cares about you. And it's obvious what Heidi feels for him. Aren't you pushing Caden right into her arms?" I understood what she meant, but every time I remembered Heidi's words or how concerned Caden had been for Heidi, my heart felt heavy. "You're just letting your anger get the best of you. Don't push Caden away." Yura said, a little frustrated. Jasper, unable to stay calm, spoke up. "Yura, what are you talking about? Caden loves Tessa. Stop meddling."Yura looked at me, sighed, and shook her head. She didn't say anything else. The three of us continued on, the snow still not fully melted, making the walk much harder than expected. "I should have just let Caden fly us in by helicopter," Yura muttered, clearly still upset. I understood what she meant. Rather than letting Heidi cling to Caden, it would have been better if he'd just flown us to find Dr. Watts. After all, we were trying to save Richard, and Caden had a responsibility to get us there. I didn't want to explain too much. Furrowing my brow, I glanced around. "It should be nearby." "You're sure about this?" Yura asked with doubt. "Everything here is covered in snow. It looks so desolate; this doesn't seem like the kind of place people would live." "I'm sure. Verda told me it's here," I said, stopping my steps. Jasper, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly spoke up. He pointed ahead. "Rosaline, is that it?" Following his finger, I saw a small cabin partly hidden behind thick trees. As we passed through the woods, a whole new world seemed to open up on the other side. "This must be it!" I exclaimed, my excitement growing. We'd finally found it. I walked up and knocked on the door. "Is anyone home?" No response. "Maybe we're at the wrong place?" Yura asked, her concern growing. I wasn't giving up. I knocked again, this time louder. "Is anyone there? Hughie, are you inside?" After a long moment, the wooden door creaked open. A middle-aged werewolf with graying hair appeared. His sharp eyes and full beard looked a lot like the Hughie I remembered, though he seemed much older now. It was him! It was Hughie!
