The Heiress' Savage Comeback
The group of monkeys sensed the presence of others and turned their attention towards Gavin and Miranda. "Don't mind them. They pose no threat," Elaine assured. The monkeys withdrew their gaze and started circling around Elaine. Some monkeys even offered her bananas. "You guys eat it. Two is enough for me," Elaine declined. After finishing her meal, she stood up, preparing to explore other areas. This time, she decided not to climb the mountain. Instead, she walked along the foot of it, wanting to explore the rest of the area. The monkeys seemed eager to follow her, but Elaine ordered, "Don't follow me. Go play on your own. I want to walk alone." Alpha immediately signaled his companions to go back up the mountain. In the distance, Miranda and Gavin quietly trailed behind Elaine. After walking for a while, Elaine discovered a new type of wild fruit. It was rose myrtle. There was a large patch of them, all ripe, with black fruits as big as thumbs. Elaine had eaten these when she was a child. They were quite delicious, but eating too many could lead to constipation. She remembered being unaware of this back then and eating too much at once, which resulted in severe constipation. In the end, a good friend of hers had to help her remove it manually. Her friend had said that the stool was so hard that it was a struggle to remove it with their hands. Her friend was disgusted for days and couldn't eat properly. She couldn't look her friend in the eye for days either. Elaine picked and ate them while walking. After consuming over twenty, she stopped, afraid that she might repeat the same mistake again. She continued to walk. She hadn't gone far when Miranda eagerly rushed to the patch of rose myrtle trees. Her eyes were filled with excitement as she used both hands to pick and immediately stuffed them into her mouth. She was so impatient that she even ate the leaves. Gavin also followed her eagerly, picking and eating the fruits. Both of them ate frantically, their bellies expanding until they could burp out fruit pulp before they finally stopped. "Gavin, I made the right decision, right? Following her led us to food! I'm so full! I haven't felt this satisfied in a long time!" Although it was just wild fruits, at least they managed to fill their stomachs. Gavin smiled. "Yes, Miranda. You've always been the smartest. Thanks to you, I don't have to eat wild vegetables today. You're truly my lucky star." Miranda grinned. She turned her gaze toward the path Elaine had taken. Since they had been eating for a long time, Elaine had already gone far. "Gavin, let's continue walking forward. Maybe we'll find more to eat. If we don't find anything else, we can come back and pick some to take with us." Gavin nodded. Because almost no one would come here, it was easy to leave traces. They followed the marks on the ground and walked for nearly half an hour until they finally saw Elaine. Surprisingly, there was a cliff ahead. Looking over the cliff, they saw a lower terrain covered with dense forests, a sight that took their breath away. Elaine was sitting on the edge of the cliff, enjoying the view. She sat close to the edge. One small slip could send her tumbling down. A wicked look flickered in Miranda's eyes. An evil notion rose within her. If only she fell off this cliff in the middle of nowhere and died... The notion festered in the back of her mind, nagging at her to make a move. If I silently approached Elaine and pushed her off the cliff, I could kill her without anyone noticing! Push Elaine off the cliff! Push Elaine off the cliff! Push Elaine off the cliff! The thought echoed in her mind like a dark incantation. Miranda's eyes gleamed with malice as she looked at Elaine's back. She approached her slowly, trying not to be noticed. Gavin frowned and wanted to follow, but he was stopped by Miranda, who put a hand on his shoulder and shook her head. She whispered into his ear, "You stay here. I'll go and apologize to her, and hopefully, we can make peace before we leave the forest." Gavin thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. Elaine has strong survival skills, so it's best if we can get along with each other. He looked at Miranda's back and smiled in relief. My little sister is so sensible. Even after suffering so much, she can still bring herself to apologize. She is truly a bigger person than Elaine. Soon, Miranda reached Elaine from behind. Elaine remained seated at the edge of the cliff, unmoving, seemingly unaware of someone approaching her. The determination in Miranda's eyes became increasingly evident. Suddenly, she bent down and pushed Elaine forcefully from behind. Elaine immediately tumbled off the cliff, plummeting towards the ground below. Miranda was trembling in excitement. Afraid that she might fall over, she quickly stepped back. I've succeeded! I've finally gotten rid of that b*tch! "Miranda, what have you done?" Gavin shouted in shock. He rushed to the edge of the cliff. It was then he heard a loud crash from below. His face turned pale, and his hands and feet went cold. He anxiously looked down. However, there were many trees on the cliff wall, blocking his view. He couldn't see what was happening below. "Elaine! Can you hear me? Elaine, are you still alive?" Gavin yelled, his voice quavering. However, all he could hear was the howling of the wind. Behind him, Miranda's triumphant voice rang out. "Stop shouting. It took her so long to hit the ground. It shows how high this cliff is. Falling from such a height will surely shatter her bones. How could she still be alive?" Gavin shivered violently. He stood up from the ground, glaring at Miranda. "Why did you push Elaine off the cliff? Don't you know this will kill her?" Miranda replied in a self-righteous tone, "I did it so she'd die!" Gavin widened his eyes in disbelief, looking at Miranda as if she were a stranger. "You did it on purpose? She's my sister! How could you even think of harming her? Even if she's not my sister, how could you think of taking someone else's life?" Miranda's face twisted with hatred. "Did you not notice how she has been targeting us these past few days? She has been attacking us. When you had a high fever, she did not lift a finger to help you. Last night, she pushed you into the water and injured you, hoping you would die. She is a wicked woman. It would be better if she were dead. Why are you so upset? I killed her to avenge you! If you don't appreciate it, that's fine, but you're actually scolding me for it. I knew it! No matter how good I am to you, I can't compete with your blood ties to her! Since you think it was wrong for me to push her off the cliff, why don't you push me off as well?" Gavin hesitated for a moment, his fists clenched tightly.Miranda spoke in a softer tone, "Gavin, she hates us and our family, and you know that. She wants to harm you now, and when we return, she will definitely target Mom, Dad, Yoel, and Quentin. She is so powerful. If we don't get rid of her, our entire family will die at her hands! I only killed her to protect our family! Have you forgotten how Elaine deliberately sold our family's company shares at a low price to our competitor? The way she swindled a large amount of money from Mom and Dad? She has been targeting our family for a long time. If we don't kill her, we are essentially waiting for her to destroy us!" Gavin was swayed. Miranda was right. Elaine had long stopped considering them as her family. She even treated them as enemies. Even before joining this program, Elaine had already started targeting the Grant family. Without any intervention, they might really end up dead because of her. However, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at the thought of Elaine falling off the cliff and meeting such a tragic end. The thought of killing her had never crossed his mind. Even though Elaine had disappointed him by not saving him when he was critically ill, he only thought of asking their parents to guide her back on track. If that didn't work, he considered confining her to prevent her from causing trouble outside. He had never thought of taking her life. But now, it was a done deal, and he could only say that she had committed too many wicked deeds, and this was her fate. Miranda's actions, although ruthless, were motivated by good intentions—to protect their family. He lacked the ruthlessness to solve the ticking time bomb that would eventually harm his family. Miranda had done it on his behalf, and he realized he shouldn't have blamed her. Gavin soon calmed down. "Thank you for looking out for our family, but don't do something like this again. Taking a life is against the law," he uttered in a low voice. Even if Elaine wants to harm us, we can find other ways to deal with it." Miranda replied softly, "Okay. I'll listen to you from now on. Can you keep this a secret, then? Don't tell anyone, not even Mom, Dad, Yoel, and Quentin, okay?" After all, Elaine was still the Grant family's biological daughter, and if the Grant family found out that she had killed her, it would reflect poorly on her. Unlike Gavin, the rest of the Grant family members were not as easily deceived. Gavin hesitated for a moment and nodded. "All right, I promise you. You did this to help me seek revenge and protect our family. I won't reveal this to anyone, so you won't have to face criticism from others." Miranda intended to avenge me and protect our family. She saved my life.Despite Miranda's wrongdoings, he could not find it in him to blame her. Miranda smiled and threw herself into his arms. "Gavin, you're the best." Gavin smiled gently and replied, "You saved my life. Of course I should stand by you. Elaine was indifferent when I was seriously ill and almost died in front of her. Such a heartless person might be better off with another family in her next life. It's for the best."
