The Heiress' Savage Comeback

Chapter 501 Stole Her Tent, Yet Offering Her Half

Elaine quickly washed up and returned with her belongings in hand. As she reached the same spot where she had initially set up, her face fell. Her tent had disappeared, leaving her completely perplexed. In fact, all of her belongings had vanished without a trace. Even the fire had been extinguished. The expression on her face turned ominously grim. Without having to think, she instantly knew who the culprits were. She couldn't help but curse, "Those losers might be bad at everything else, but they're truly skilled at petty theft." At that, comments flooded in. One read: Good job, Elle! They're good-for-nothing slackers and thieves! Another typed: You're too gentle, Elle. Please use harsher words to scold them! The next urged: Don't let them get away with it, Elle. Quick! Go and get your things back! Someone else seconded: Not only do you have to retrieve your belongings, but you must also teach them a lesson. Don't let them get away with it!Elaine put her outdoor jacket and pants back on, clutching a flashlight tightly in her hand. Determined, she set off in the direction of Miranda and the rest of the group. They had apparently moved their campsite, no longer in the spot they had chosen during the day. Her expression grew darker, but she pressed on determinedly. A short distance further, she noticed them behind a thicket that towered over an average person's height. Her tent was there too. Simultaneously, her backpack had been overturned, and its contents were scattered haphazardly across the ground. At that very moment, Miranda was seated by the tent's entrance, holding a bottle of mosquito repellent and applying it to her body. While doing so, she complained, "The forest is swarming with mosquitoes, and I've been bitten numerous times. I swear I'm never coming back here again!" The bottle of mosquito repellent had been brought by Elaine. Janice cast a longing glance at Miranda and asked, "Are you done with that, Miranda? Can you give me some? I'm covered in mosquito bites too." "This tiny bottle of mosquito repellent isn't even enough for me alone. Figure it out yourself," Miranda retorted.Biting her lip, Janice stared resentfully at Miranda. She wants to keep that bottle of mosquito repellent for herself, even though it doesn't belong to her. However, given the Grant family's influential status in the entertainment industry, Janice dared not confront her and had to suppress her grievances. Elaine emerged from the underbrush, her gaze icy as she confronted Miranda. "Enjoying my belongings, are you?" "Ahh!" Startled by Elaine's sudden appearance, Miranda instinctively hid behind Gavin. A frown appeared on Gavin's face, and he sneered at Elaine with contempt. "What brings you here? Weren't you the one who insisted on going solo and even asked us to stay away from you? Why have you invaded our territory now?" "Why do you think I came looking for you guys?" Elaine sneered. "How would I know? I can't read your mind!" Gavin retorted. "You're quite the expert at playing innocent. Why didn't that apply when you took my belongings?" Elaine replied sarcastically. Gavin's face turned fiery red with anger. He hissed through clenched teeth, "Don't make it seem so terrible. We're family, and we just borrowed your stuff temporarily. Don't be so petty!" "Borrow? All of you took my belongings without my permission. Is that what you call borrowing? Taking anything without asking is theft," Elaine countered. Frowning, Gavin continued to argue, "Why are you being so stingy? We're simply borrowing them, and we'll give them back when we're done. If that's not enough, I'll transfer you some money once we return. Think of it as payment for your things. I'll even pay you ten times the original value. Are you satisfied now?" Unexpectedly, Elaine firmly declined. "No, I'm not selling them to you! Return my things to me right now!" Miranda quickly hid the mosquito repellent behind her back and extended a protective hand over the tent behind her. She stated cautiously, "These are mine now! Don't even think about taking them back!" Elaine let out a cold snort. "If you won't return them, then I'll have to retrieve them myself." She continued walking ahead. Having been beaten up by Elaine a few times, Miranda was already traumatized. Upon seeing Elaine approaching, she let out a shriek and clung to Gavin. "Gavin, that lunatic is at it again! Hurry! Stop her! Don't let her get near me!" Internally, Gavin was also somewhat afraid. He had experienced a severe beating from Elaine and still felt a twinge of pain whenever he saw her. Nevertheless, he couldn't appear too timid in front of his beloved sister. Summoning his courage, he reluctantly softened his tone. "You can take some of the other items back, but please let Miranda borrow the tent and mosquito repellent for now." "I won't be lending her anything. I'm taking back everything that belongs to me," Elaine asserted coldly. With a stern expression, Gavin retorted, "Can't you show some kindness for once? Miranda has been living a pampered life since childhood. She's delicate and can't handle any hardships. How will she rest at night without a tent and an air mattress?" Elaine shot back, "How am I supposed to sleep if I give away my tent to her?" Gavin's brows furrowed. "You're different. You've grown up in challenging conditions from a young age and are accustomed to hardship. It won't hurt you to suffer a bit more. Just make do on the grass tonight." Miranda's lips curled upwards involuntarily, and she delicately touched her flawless skin. "I apologize, Elaine. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, unlike you, who was born into more humble circumstances and can endure hardships and toil. Therefore, I must request that you endure a bit more adversity and tap into the resilience you developed while growing up in challenging conditions." In response, Elaine chuckled. "I'm sincerely grateful to both of you. Otherwise, I might never have experienced firsthand what true shamelessness looks like." In an instant, Miranda's expression turned stormy. "You're calling me shameless? You're the one who's shameless. What gives you the right to pass judgment on me?"Meanwhile, Gavin shook his head in disappointment. "You're just too impolite, Elaine. It's always either violence or insults with you. When will you learn to be more considerate?" "What gives you two the right to lecture me?" Elaine scoffed, glancing at Miranda and Gavin while smiling derisively. "Just because I've endured hardships since I was young, does it mean I should continue suffering?" Elaine's voice was tinged with frustration. "But don't forget that it was me, the one who should have lived a life of luxury from the very beginning. Miranda's wicked mother swapped me for her daughter. And to make matters worse, she didn't raise me properly; instead, she abandoned me in the slums, forcing me to endure suffering. Miranda's wealth, fame, and privilege were all stolen from me. Why was she born with a silver spoon in her mouth while I was sentenced to a lifetime of hardship? I was made to endure suffering because of your mother, and I nearly died out there. Do I really deserve this? It's one thing for her to think that way, driven by her greed and selfishness, but for you, my own blood, to say such things? Are you out of your mind? No, it's not that. You're just utterly brainless! The entire Grant family is nothing more than a bunch of imbeciles, no better than animals. Don't come near me in the future. I consider it a misfortune to have brainless family members like all of you!" Her face contorted with revulsion, and she felt nothing but abhorrence, not a hint of sorrow. If possible, she wished she could sever all connections with the Grant family entirely. She harbored a deep aversion to sharing the same genes with them."What nonsense are you talking about?" Gavin's voice quivered, a trace of uncertainty and guilt present. "When you and Miranda were swapped, she was just a newborn. What did she know? Your suffering had nothing to do with her, and you shouldn't hold it against her! We've grown closer to her because you've been causing problems since your return. You constantly set her up and turned the family into chaos! Lately, you've even crossed the line, even raising your hand against Mom, Dad, and us. How can we like you when your behavior is like that?" "Every punishment and beating you received was justified. Stop playing the victim. Have you forgotten how I acted when I first came back? It was your actions that pushed me to change my attitude. I don't want to have a conversation with the two of you right now. I only want my things back. Return them right now, or I'll retrieve them myself!" Elaine warned in a cold, resolute tone. In hindsight, she deeply regretted not immediately leaving and putting an end to her ties with the Grants on the day she returned to their residence. Instead, she had wasted too much time with them and nearly lost her life. On the first day of her return, they all took turns approaching her. Initially, they feigned concern for her, and then they asked her not to fight with Miranda, as Miranda was their dearest family member. At the time, she saw no issue with their requests. She believed that Miranda's mother was to blame, and it had nothing to do with Miranda herself. Consequently, she held no ill will toward her. Moreover, her own parents and three brothers had lived with Miranda for many years, so it was only natural that they held a deep affection for her. Thus, she knew she could never compete with the bond they shared. In any case, the thought of comparing herself to Miranda never even crossed her mind. All she yearned for was a small semblance of the familial love she had never known. In her pursuit of it, she set her pride aside and humbled herself to gain their favor. Sadly, no matter how much effort she put in, they interpreted her actions as attempts to vie with Miranda for their affection. They consistently supported Miranda and believed her, even when Miranda attempted to frame Elaine, regardless of how straightforward the set-up was or how glaring the flaws appeared. In reality, she should have given up a long time ago. However, she persevered for a full year, only abandoning hope when Miranda pushed her off the stage and her own family showed no concern for her even when her life was at risk. Perhaps my intelligence has also declined after spending so much time with this group of imbeciles. That must be it! Gavin recalled how Elaine addressed him intimately with joy etched across her features when she first returned home. He liked to play video games, so she stayed up all night to play with him. Moreover, she had even managed to secure a prelaunch video game console for him through her connections. The video game console was created by the world's most technologically advanced video game company, and at that time, only a thousand of them had been released worldwide. Despite the Grant family's former status as the wealthiest family in Horington, they held no international significance. Even with a thousand consoles in circulation, they couldn't secure a single one. Nonetheless, Elaine gave him one as a gift, claiming that she won it in a lucky draw. While it didn't cost her any money since it was a prize, the mere act of gifting such a valuable video game console demonstrated the importance she placed on their sibling relationship and her desire to foster a strong bond with him. However, as time passed, Miranda began to feel that their bond was becoming too strong. She became anxious that Elaine might steal away Gavin's affection and grew despondent. In an effort to please Miranda, Gavin began to distance himself from Elaine and even broke the video game console. It was only then that Miranda's mood improved. Over time, Elaine's constant provocations against Miranda caused Gavin's opinion of her to deteriorate. He believed that Elaine wasn't inherently malevolent, as she had been kind in the beginning. It was undeniable that their favoritism toward Miranda had played a part in her current behavior. Nevertheless, he didn't see anything wrong with them favoring Miranda. She had grown up with them from a young age, so their bond was naturally close. However, Elaine was still his biological sister, and he was willing to give her another chance. Collecting himself, Gavin addressed Elaine. "I understand that you're not inherently bad. Part of the reason for your change is undoubtedly our fault. However, the main reason lies in your envy. Let's not dwell on the past and give each other a chance. Try to revert to your former self, and we'll also make an effort to treat you well. But it's important that you and Miranda get along. After all, she has been with us for many years, and our affection for her won't diminish. I hope you understand." Deep down, Miranda was utterly chagrined. She had no desire to get along with Elaine, let alone want her to return to the Grant residence. However, considering what Gavin had just said, she couldn't openly object either. After all, Elaine was a member of the Grant family by blood, whereas Miranda was an outsider. If she were to voice strong objections, the Grants might develop a negative attitude toward her. Despite her inner dissatisfaction, she mustered a gentle smile and said, "Listen to Gavin, Elaine. If you change, I'll be willing to let go of the past. We can work together, take care of Mom and Dad, and ensure they have nothing to worry about anymore." Gavin looked at Miranda affectionately. "You truly are wise, Miranda. A good upbringing from a young age makes a significant difference." He then turned to Elaine and earnestly suggested, "Elaine, why don't you spend the night in the tent with Miranda? It's an opportunity for both of you to strengthen your bond." "Since Gavin has suggested it, I'll go along with it," Miranda generously offered. "We can share the tent tonight, Elaine." Comments flooded in. One person typed, "Whoa! There's so much information that I don't know where to begin!" Another commented, "Thankfully, they set up hidden cameras. Otherwise, we wouldn't have learned so many scandalous secrets!" The next person wondered, "Elle and Miranda were actually switched at birth? Didn't the Grant family announce that both of them were their biological daughters, but Elle was accidentally taken away when she was born?" Someone replied, "It seems like that's a deliberate lie fabricated by the Grant family to protect Miranda. Elle is so pitiful. She should have been an heiress from birth, but someone else stole her wealthy, glorious life. As if that wasn't bad enough, when she returned, she was even disdained by her biological parents." Another comment read, "Elle is being too forgiving with them. Gavin's words are simply hurtful! He actually said that she's inherently inferior and accustomed to hardships, so she should endure more of them. Is he really her biological brother? Not even a stranger would make such a despicable remark!" Someone else agreed, "D*mn it! I'm about to explode from watching this. If I were there, I would definitely give Gavin a piece of my mind!" The next person typed, "Elle is just too pitiful. I feel so sorry for her. I wish I could give her a hug!" One person condemned, "Miranda is utterly shameless! Not only did she steal Elle's life, but she's also treating her cruelly, taking the lead in bullying her on the show. Is that something anyone with a conscience would do?" Likewise, the following comment read, "Miranda is truly disgusting. She took Elle's tent, yet she's offering her half of it in a condescending tone! I can't comprehend her way of thinking." Another urged, "Gosh, I'm on edge here! Don't waste time talking with them, Elle. Just confront them physically! Beat them to a pulp!"
